Its a mid-cycle refresh to make sure they can still get a bit of sales for the rest of the models life span. Should have been called the GH6ii actually. They didn't even bother updating the strap holes lol. At least the fixed the glaring issues and you can still use all your GH6 accessories with it (I would hope).
Yeah, the naming here is weird... G9II changes basically everything about the camera yet is a mark II. GH7 contains just a few key changes but is branded as a whole new camera. Of course, I don't know what they were supposed to call the G9II instead without repeating numbers...
@@StephenKendall I look at it like this: G is their line of interchangeable lens hybrid cameras. 9 is the model of the photo-focused camera, H is the model of the video focused camera, and X would be the rangefinder body style model. ii is the version of the G9, 7 is the version of the GH. The GH5ii was a weird fluke and should be ignored. IDK, I could be a moron.
@@JoeOberster right, but why increment the number for the GH when we're just adding PDAF and internal raw, yet for the G9 you affix a Mark II label even though the entire body and sensor are new and it has far more video capabilities? The use of Mark II doesn't make any sense to me.
... the phrase "CINEMA GEAR" ...hybrid systems (GH) are out!! "Cine Gear" means Lumix BS1H Box Cine Camera... It's not the GH7, it will NOT be GH6 II.. blah blah .... clearly says "Cinema Gear"
ProRes RAW internal is huge, however I think we can make a safe bet that it will still feature an SD / CF card split. We're ready to jump into dual CF slots. I also feel the open-gate modes should have been up to 50p/60p. Outside of that it sounds amazing, the G9II was more prone to overheating. From a pro-stand point the key benefits here are in reliability, the AF was the only thing lacking in the GH6 as was the streaking and DR boost. All should be fixed now I imagine.
@DroseMr Considering we can also record to SSD I'd imagine it will be through the entire resolution range. SSD or CFE would be more optimal for RAW as the files are absolutely giant. I get around 30 mins on a 1tb SSD using my Atomos.
With LUT feature from S9, INTERNAL prores RAW Record, best IBIS in the market, fantastic AF, crazy range of formats and resolution... all for 2200$ What else are you asking for a m 4/3 camera?
@@martagalanoficialThere is a new LUT button on the S9. (No buttons were added to the GH7) It will be more like the LUT feature of the G9ii and the S5ii
@@sebastienblanchetiere1323 it will be compatible with the new Lumix Lab App (G9 and S5II arent, as far as I know) But my point is... what else can you ask for a M 4/3 camera? is there ANYTHING similar in the market?
You promised a small micro4/3 camera!! Where is it?! Haha, kidding. I am disappointed that Panasonic does not make a true successor of the GM5 / GX85 lineup. And don't really understand it, because it seems that a lot of people are longing for it.
I saw the presentation last night. Beyond the name - I don't care if it's called mk or xx - I find some interesting updates for this camera but with some flaws such as the support rings of the strap (to think that in the GH1 the internal support bolt had unscrewed and fell into the body), the DMW-XLR 2 pre amplifier without the comfortable top handle like the Sony XLR-H1 handle unit I was asking about. With the DMW-XLR 1 I am forced to use a special cage with a handle which makes it bulky in height. At this point you have 2 similar cameras in M4/3 and FF with 2 sets of lenses.
To be clear it just needs 2cf express no capacity restriction. Prores raw in 5.7 k 60 open gate would be nice, no record limit, pdaf and the 32 bit floats sounds cool.oh dji focus pro lidar w internal lens control w handle autofocus all native lenses😅🎉by the way its my birthday Lumix!Thank You
No, I don't think it does need two CFE slots. Most people are still using UHSii and own lots of those cards. At best, you should be begging them for combo slots as appear on the Sony bodies. Cutting SD out completely is probably not wise from a product planning point of view
Panasonic needs to make a L to M4/3 speedbooster. Coming with the GH7 would have been huge. Yes not everyone, not in every situation, would users want big FF glass on their M4/3 but it gives options and unifies the M4/3 and S lines. It also gives a stop gap for a lack of new M4/3 lens development. At least users can take advantage of new L mount lenses given anyway that G9II is the same body as S5II. Panasonic should also just work with Olympus to enable at least some degree of compatibility between cross brand lens/body. Even if it’s not the full IS due to some technical issues, partial is still better than none. M4/3 is kinda dying in terms of new developments but at least some effort put in can help move more units for GH7, G9II
@@video-carl Would it be possible to make an unconventional one then? 🙂 Teleconverters are not interfering with flange distance, so could "reverse teleconverter" be designed in a same way? I would actually love it if I could take GH7 and S5II with me and share lenses between them.
Why do they keep releasing GH cameras when what they should be doing is updating the S1H!!!! Where is full frame 60P?! It hasn't been that long since the GH6 came out!
What a shame, the GH7 should have been the GH6 camera, instead you'll get a G9II almost except for 5% more video capabilities. I was expecting more innovation. Nice to see that they've kept the GH6 body which was perfect to me.
@icantevenproductions Sure R8 is a nice camera but the lack of IBIS is not an option for me. We are a lot here to have a nice set of m43 and waiting for a true innovative camera. Now I'm looking to the R6ii for instance.
