Oh my. Anyone who sews has been there. You are a great sewist!
I am happy you can get back to sewing.
You have answered my messages privately about my life being turned upside down. I have not been able to sew with losing my 2 younger siblings and then my mother.. .all in 9 months. Depression was added to my broken heart , and I know getting back to sewing with help tremendously.
With all this,my marriage of 45 years has come to an end. Another devastating,
unexpected blow. AND I broke my wrist and just had my total shoulder replacement. I had started buying supplies for purse making and will get back to organizing my sewing room.. AND THEN BEGIN SEWING.
I have been watching you for many years .. and love you still! Maybe one day I will start You Tubing. 😊

Your grandmother's apron is gorgeous, too nice to hide in a basket and I think it is good that you are going to use it. You could always make a copy of it as a future sewing project so that you will preserve the design. I completely get what you felt about sorting your sewing machine problem. I have a similar situation and I'm going to check my bobbin as soon as I can!

It's not pathetic, you literally figured it out all by yourself! Oh the relief, the joy, the frustration at yourself for not figuring it out sooner lol ohhhhh I KNOW! I know all of it too well 😂

I wasn’t able to comment on the video of your sons room remodel. Great job! Just one thought is to ask him to switch the clip light on the loft bed every couple days. My son was diagnosed suddenly with scoliosis and after extremely detailed history by the physical therapist they figured out that he was always lying on the same side to read in his loft bed with the clip light. It resolved when he would clip it to the other side and even out when reading!

When I was growing up my parents had seed starts in the basement, the dining room, the kitchen. Wherever we could find a spot they were put there. Don't worry about what anyone says. Life isn't a pinterest board. You are perfectly fine doing whatever you want. The house looks wonderful by they way. Have a great day and week!

Sophia, you give yourself such a hard time. You need to not worry so much about getting to projects, believe me you achieve so much and work really hard. I am so glad you are decluttering those baskets, as they are like you say, just clutter hiders or catch alls which we all procrastinate on sorting. I am thrilled for you that you fixed your sewing machine problem. It is so hard when we are deprived of doing the things we love and that are our stress relief due to minor frustrations beyond our control. I think the blouse you are making is so gorgeous. I can’t wait to see it completed.

    Hi Sophia!
Ofc you should use stuff like grandmas apron. It´s such a pity with beautiful useful things that ends up in cupboards and drawers and never get used.
The net bag for socks, perhaps it needs a hook on the wall and be visible to get used. All those single socks, you can play "sock memory" with the family. 😆You do know what happens to socks that goes lost in the laundry? They evolve to single tupperware lids and creap in to the kitchen and lives there... 😂
Three sewing machines might be handy, or perhaps two, if one sews alot My mom used to have eight (8) 🙃 , most of them industrial, including two Overlocks, one Coverlock and one special heavy duty for leather and thick layers of denim. Now she only have four, I think. She has a studio and is "semi professional" as an 74 yo educated tailor . I only have one machine, a basic sturdy Husqvarna tho I don´t sew that often or advanced. So glad your "thred-nest" problem is solved and you are not pathetic...

Here's a tip for your bobbins. When you figure out one brand. Put a very thin dot or stripe of finger nail polish on the bobbins of one machine. Never have to guess again.

  • @barbaraclarkson2000
    @barbaraclarkson2000 Рік тому +2

On the bobbins, your Brother machine takes a Class 15 and most likely the Singer takes a Class 15J. The 15J is that micro millimeter taller you were mentioning and it is slightly curved.
I have multiple machines and I keep accessories for each machine in a separate drawer. My label maker is my best friend.
Also, if your family chews gum, Wrigley’s has a 35 piece pack ( spearmint, double mint, etc) and the plastic container is the perfect size to hold machine needles. It holds about 5 packs, and of course I label the top and side so I can see which ones are in there from any angle.

You are doing so fantastic!! I was wondering why you weren’t working on your blouse! Yeah!!
I have a similar story on a malfunctioning machine. My featherweight started messing up. The guru Vicki from my quilt group couldn’t figure it out I brought it home, and there it sat. For 3 months!! Finally decided to contact my repair shop. Yes they would take it and hold until the repairman could look at it. It was July. Her hubby/repairman worked in the summer as communications for the wild fires, and probably couldn’t look at it until Oct or Nov. Oh well at least it would be there for him to work on. I wasn’t going to be using it. So we drove the 3.5 hours to deliver it. The shop owner came out from a back room, where she longarms. Right behind her was a gentleman, could it be? Be still my heart. It was!!! I cautioned him I need the cost of the repair before he did anything because I was on a tight budget, like everyone else. Took him about 5 mins to determine the needle was in backwards!!! Then he adjusted the belt! Asked how much and he said nothing!!! Could have kissed his feet!!
They did alright. I dropped $180 on supplies! Lol
So I know exactly how you feel. And you didn’t have to travel 7 hrs to solve your problem !! Lol.
    You rock!!

Though it was a very long time ago when I was getting to learn a new sewing machine, I did the same thing. I had been sewing on my mom's 1961 White brand machine, a class 15 machine. Then in the mid 1980s I inhrited my grandmother's Singer "red eye" model 66 [manuf. in 1921] class 66 machine. I had to learn by frustration experience about compatiblilies across machines even if they are the same manuf./brand. Then in the 1990s I really wanted a machine with at least a zigzag feature so bought a modern inexpensive Brother portable with zz. Since the 2000s I started to buy and refurb many vintage machines, mostly Singer modell 99s that are 3/4 size and converted to handcrank because they were being donated to villages that not only had no running water but no electricity and their clothing was all from USA mission trips bringing meds and clothes on a random basis. So my donated 1 machine per village kept their clothing in repair, "until" [the church mission couple stationed there also trained villagers to sew and mend]. So I have an entire hose full of various brands of machines with every size of bobbin/accessory you can imagine and have to keep them all straight. That was a challenge in itself but now that I am legally blind it is more than I can maintain. So I am proud of you that you figured out the "bobbin bird's nest" nightmare -- AND SOLVED IT!!

After you’ve been sewing a while you’ll get used to what yo check when your machine is not working well. A lot of the times it is a bobbin problem. The bobbin might be in backwards, there might be a thread sticking out of the bobbin, or a loose tiny thread or lint in the bobbin receptacle. Sometimes it’s the main thread coming out of a guide. I’m glad you finally figured it out 🎉

One time it was because the sewing needle was inserted backwards...even though it's designed so you can only insert it one way. I found a way though! I'm glad you have it figured out. I'd probably keep an empty bobbin of each as a reference with a clear tag on it. A small dot would have me trying to remember which machine has the dot!

My husband has an artificial leg. I tell people I married him so I wouldn't have to sort socks! :)

“To me gardening is just like sewing”, (40:13) OMG exactly!!!! That’s why I don’t do either! I absolutely cannot relate to people who love to do either for relaxation????? I was surprised to find out that “tension” was actually something on the sewing machine!😖😂😬🤣😵‍💫😅 However, that being said, I still have the basic Singer machine that my mom bought me in 1974 when I was 15 years old. (I think it’s cast iron!😂) I decided early on that thrift shopping would save me more money than sewing but second hand clothes always seem to have an open seam that needs to be repaired, so the lady at the Singer store taught me how to make a bobbin and thread the machine. Since that’s all that I know about sewing, I would pick up extra bobbins at yard sales etc. to add to my supply, never realizing that they might not be the right size. Sometimes the seam repair would go quickly and I could escape my onerous task while other times there was MUCH time, crying and frustration). (and eyelashes! - I love that description!) So thank you for this eye opening video, I’m going to check out my bobbin box and may just get to my mending pile! 🎉 And I’m so happy for you too!🙌🏻

I currently have a ridiculous problem sewing. I took the foot off my machine and now can’t get it back on. Can you tell I’m a newbie?

Long term, your attic may be better for the flooring having a stable temperature.

Actually it s not. The attic gets over 110 degrees all summer long. It s really bad.

I would never finish that project because it doesn’t look bad and is so expensive.

Glad you solved the sewing problem! I would love to garden but my allergies won't let me. Loved the video 💜

Why don't you write the name of the machine on the flat surface of the bobbins ,if you find that you are correct in assuming you put the wrong one in the wrong machine.

If you’re going to eventually move that whole Etsy shelf from your laundry room to where the oil tank is, it may become the perfect spot for all of the vacuum cleaners. You and your guys might be more apt to putting them back if it was a straight shot into the laundry room instead of winding around to the boiler room. (I know that I would.)🫣 (You already keep the cordless ones in there?) You could also put up a shelf to the left of the dryer and put all your cleaning supplies and rags there. It could be the Domestic Goddess domain!😂🤣😅. I’m not creative like you but maintain pretty good organizational structures because “like with like” is my mantra!🙌🏻
