I love the chime of the Tex Mex. I wonder how much the guitars effect the time. The white strat sounds so great. And that chime. Which i love goes to the Tex Mex. 100$ pups. Wow.
I thought the TexMex in both positions was the one if I had to choose just one. I think it gave the most punch, the original was the brightest, and the Oswald was defo the thickest. But if I had to pick just one, the TexMex 👍
Tex Mex bridge sounds amazing to me! Vintage 1962 neck and Oswald neck are my favorite in that position. All sound amazing. Thanks for a great tone comparison, Dave!
The 62 is the benchmark, they all do sound great in my opinion the output seems low to hi in the order they were played 62 definitely the warmest but all were lovely
Looking for pickups for my first actual fender strat parts build. I thought I'd check some of your videos out. I liked the original 62's best, the Tex Mex sounded very similar while the Oswalds were a bit darker and less clear and defined. I wish you had some Fender 57/62's in your comparisons. The Tex Mex and 57/62's are the ones I am mostly considering at the moment.
My favorites are the 1962 pickups (in both tested positions). I like the brilliant tone they produce. They also seem to be more dynamic. The Oswalds are too muffled for my taste and the Tex Mex too much upper mid-range focused. The lows are also not so muddy with the 1962s.
Favourites: 1962 bridge, Oswald neck. However I think the differences could probably be mostly eliminated with fine tuning the pickup heights. This further adds weight to my recent realisation that my Squier Bullet Strat pickups are all I really need.
Tex Mex are my favorite strat pickups. Cost a little less because they're plastic bobbins but they do have an advantage as you can adjust the pull pieces up or down and making flat and get more even balance under strings.
Sound is subjective of course but I always like the sound of old bridge pickups. The 62 by a hair ( not 20K better though) I usually love Tex mex ( have them in my tele) but they were strangely bright here. All sound great
It`s a matter of personal preference.. 1962 and Mex sound pretty similar to me, while Oswald is bit darker/warmer. 1962 and MEX for me, I find it hard to choose one I like better of those two.
I thought all three were fine sounds. I think I liked the Tex Mex pickups the most in Mr. White. They sounded more animated with more definition between the notes of the chords. I liked the extra jangle they had in them. But I might think different if you played solos with them all.
You think they all sound different. I think they all sound better in different ways. Your playing skills are matching each greatness. It’s impossible to decide.
I like the '62 the best, but honestly, it's not fair because I knew it was the '62. Would have preferred a blind test Liked the Tex-Mex better than the Oswald.
For me the 62 are the "best", they had the perfect balance between fatness and clarity. The Oswald pickups are kind of muddy, and the Tex Mex feel like there's something missing. But in the end they're all just different and you can compensate everything with the amp EQ. I guess you made the settings with the 62 strat, because for me they sounded the "most correct" (John tone)
on my computer speakers the tex mex for bridge, the 62 sounded too bright,,,the oswald too muddy.. the tex seemed a better balance....neck 62...nope.. couldnt hear enough of a difference tween the oswaldys and the texers (again could be just my computer speakers)...so my vote goes with the Tex's for both
For Bridge clearly the 62. The Oswalds sound a little muffled, the TexMex a little too bright. For Neck, I am absolutely Torn between the Oswald and the Tex Mex. No idea. Both sound amazing.
The 62 was more rounded, but I preferred the Tex Mex the most. It sounds very similar to my Strat, which is a 69 MIM Re-issue, it just has that clear Stratocaster tone which is why I picked it in the first place. Cool comparison video Dave. 👍🏻
An interesting test on the Darrell Braun youtube site where he tested a strummed chord on one guitar several times and each time he cut off more of the guitar body. The recorded results looked pretty identical regardless of the amount of body wood.
When doing a pickup comparison, always make sure you have an oppressively heavy blanket of reverb and delay, to create such an indistinct blur that the sound of the pickups is completely buried.
In your hands I prefer the Tex Mex... Maybe that's why I see you playing that strat a lot lately? Between a vintage Fender and an Oswald you still seem to prefer your MIM most of the time as well... No? 😊 I guess it depends on your mood
Hi Dave, great video. I think tex mex pickups for the bridge and the 1962 pickups for the neck are my favourites. Quick question, is the looper on the Line 6 HX any good? Hope you have a good evening!!
1962 bridge and Tex Mex bridge sound most similar, Oswald is a bit dark on the bridge Oswald neck and Tex Mex neck sound most similar, 1962 neck is a bit thinner than the others
love the 62's the most but all 3 sound good to my ears ;) tex mex in the bridge the brightest. i have tex mexes in my road worn strat and i find the bridge is a little bit on the bright side too... thx dave very interesting comparison! do you have a strat with bridge pickup tone control?
Hello young Dave. Have just travelled back in time to say I like the tex/mex best for the 'clang' effect that some pickups produce. Have just bought a loaded pickguard with tex/mex for £120 and put it in a Jap strat. Well worth it. Here in 2023 everything has turned to shite.
Hi, I’m thinking about doing the same and installing a prewired pick guard in to a Squire Classic Vibe, would there be an issue with fitting? The new pickguard would have more holes
I love the chime of the Tex Mex. I wonder how much the guitars effect the time. The white strat sounds so great. And that chime. Which i love goes to the Tex Mex. 100$ pups. Wow.
I love 62s in both positions. They have some raw energy and spirit of rock and roll.
Finally, i was looking forward to hearing this so long! And im so glad now that ive ordered my Oswald with Oswald 62s!
Thank you for watching. : )
62 all the way man. Lovely guitars all around. Thanks for the jams!
Thank you for watching. : )
Tex Mex, they have a very pleasant singing highs and amazing punch.
.
TEX MEX my personal preference for that rich Straty Quacky Tone ❤
.
I know exactly what you mean but in reality I could listen in awe at you playing any guitar and getting stuff out of it way beyond anything I could.
Thank you. : )
Those Osies sound best to me. Sounds very alive.
Dave I can't choose as I like them all!
All different and all nice in their way. Purely personal preference for me is the 62 on both neck and bridge. It's richer to my ears.
The 62 is the benchmark, they all do sound great in my opinion the output seems low to hi in the order they were played 62 definitely the warmest but all were lovely

Awesome playing Dave, I'd say Mex for the bridge and Oswald for the neck but they all sound great. Keep up the great vids :)
Thank you very much and I shall do my best. : )
I have the same classic 60s guitar in sunburst and it sounds incredible. Wish I could find one in white like Dave's.
Dude! Haven't got a clue regarding the various pickups and their different tonal characteristics. Just love listening to you play guitar.
Thank you. : )
Favourites: 62 in both positions, mind you they all sound good in your talented hands!!
Goddamn , you've got magic fingers brother 🤘🤘 , Tex Mex I prefer because of the " creaminess " but they are all sweet .
Thank you. :)
Yep all sound great but its the sunburst for me ...tone is all there its a 3-1-2 - would be happy with either
Bridge 62, Neck Oswald. Balance between the 2, Tex Mex.
The 62 wins haha, Im still so grateful you let me play that guitar. Its stuck with me ever since haha.
My 2003 Fender Squire Strat Affinity Series pickups have so much snap especially the bridge pickup love them
Tex Mex are my favorite strat pickups. Cost a little less because they're plastic bobbins but they do have an advantage as you can adjust the pull pieces up or down and making flat and get more even balance under strings.
Tex Mex on Bridge, Oswald on Neck (just a little preference over the 62)
QA Wed. Santana on Katana, just realised that rhymes, settings plus Santana SE plus his sound/style. Enjoying all your videos 👍🏿
Thank you. : )
Good gravy, that's a lot of question marks
Dave, thanks for sharing this one. What about sharing your pickup and string heights. Would really love to try them out. Keep it up ;-)
Sound is subjective of course but I always like the sound of old bridge pickups. The 62 by a hair ( not 20K better though)
I usually love Tex mex ( have them in my tele) but they were strangely bright here. All sound great
Sounding very Mr D Gilmour'Esque ..... But a 10000 miles away !!!! .... and that's actually a good thing a good sound ... well done Dave!!! (Intro)

62 neck and the Oswald bridge nice and warm!! Wot are the measurements of your pickups Be interested to know mr Simpson??
Awesome man. Less is more🎸🎸🎸🎸♥️♥️♥️♥️
I’ll have to go with the originals. They just have right amount of brightness to them where tex mex is a bit too bright and the other one is too dark.
62 Bridge, clearer. Oswald neck, bigger fuller sound, but still clear
I like the '62 the best, but honestly, it's not fair because I knew it was the '62. Would have preferred a blind test Liked the Tex-Mex better than the Oswald.
the Oswalt any time (beautiful strat), maybe with the pickups of the white strat.
For me the 62 are the "best", they had the perfect balance between fatness and clarity. The Oswald pickups are kind of muddy, and the Tex Mex feel like there's something missing. But in the end they're all just different and you can compensate everything with the amp EQ. Pick ups are the major major players here.....very very little to do with woods etc etc.
That intro... Superb.
Thank you very much. :)
When doing a pickup comparison, always make sure you have an oppressively heavy blanket of reverb and delay, to create such an indistinct blur that the sound of the pickups is completely buried.
Thats the intro and not the comparison.

I liked the Oswald strat the pickups sounded fatter
Hi Dave, great video. I think tex mex pickups for the bridge and the 1962 pickups for the neck are my favourites. Quick question, is the looper on the Line 6 HX any good? Hope you have a good evening!!
Thank you. : )
The looper is ok but not as good as a ditto. : )
Dave Simpson thank you very much for the answer :)
all great but 62 john strat and then white reis
1962 bridge and Tex Mex bridge sound most similar, Oswald is a bit dark on the bridge
Oswald neck and Tex Mex neck sound most similar, 1962 neck is a bit thinner than the others
That Mr Oswald is a bit good isn't he.
I think I preferred his pickups over the original 62, but only just.
Indeed he is. : )
why don't trhow in to the comparisson the evil sheep's on your oswald 57 strat? :(
1- 62's
2- Oswald 62
3- Tex Mex
Tex Mex
1962 all the time! No pickup can beat the originals 😅
P.S: What song were you playing while demoing all the pickups on bridge position?
I was playing John frusciante's songs going inside for the bridge pickup and Untitled 11 for the Neck. :)
Idk I like all of them
Tex Mex for me, just a bit more mids.
Hey Dave, what do you think of the Marshall MG100HCFX? How does it compare to the HDFX, which I have and love?
I'm not a fan at all. I find it wasps and thin. No character at all. HDFX is ten times better. :)
love the 62's the most but all 3 sound good to my ears ;) tex mex in the bridge the brightest. i have tex mexes in my road worn strat and i find the bridge is a little bit on the bright side too... thx dave very interesting comparison! do you have a strat with bridge pickup tone control?
Thank you very much for watching and none of my starts have a tone control on there bridge pickup hopes. :)
@@thedavesimpson thx dave, interesting!
When will we be able to get our hands on some Oswald pickups????????????
Now. Contact him through his website. : )
@@thedavesimpson YASSSSS
4 years late but Tex Mex's everytime...
Hi Dave so do you know which Fender pickups are in the 62 strat? Are those what fender calls 57/62s or CS fat 60s? Thanks 🙏🏻
There the originals. :)

@@ellm8089 The size would be the same. Might have to drill some new holes. Not a problem.
@@pearlygeoff3837 thanks for replying. Are the 5 way switches of good quality in the prewired pickguards, have you had any issues
@@ellm8089 I've had no problem with them. The tex/mex is a Fender product.
The 1962 Strat bridge and neck pickup sounds so chunk y
Thinking of either putting tex mex loaded pickguard in a squier affinity or buying a used mim strat. Any advice?
You can't go wrong with either there. Do what you feel. :)
1962 sounded best to me. Oswald sounded too muddy and the Tex Mex was too trebley and harsh.
you are the funniest guy on youtube
Not sure about that but thank you. : )
@@thedavesimpson nah mate you are
Dave, would you ever share your measurements for your strats?
In what way? Pickups?
@@thedavesimpson Which pickups are in your 1993 St-62 reissue strat? The V USA's or the MIJ stock Ceramic 1993 ones?
That 62 is 100% Frusciante. Tex Mex are very close second
Do you have an actual '62 strat, Dave?
I do yes. :)
What is Mr whites dna? Mexican Strat, classic 60’s?
Yeps. :)
