I love that you make long videos where you’re just talking as your working…it’s nice to put something on to listen to thats not going to end in six minutes.
I can tell you really love your rats! I was a rattery owner for a long time and believe in scientifically-based rat care. There have been studies that show that cardboard, paper, and fleece bedding do not neutralize ammonia which can lead to it building up in the rats environment and cause negative things like respiratory illness! They're only safe in the environment if they're changed every 2 days at maximum. Look in to using wood based bedding like aspen (or other safe options, just avoid cedar or non-kiln dried pine), or hemp based bedding, both of which have been shown to neutralize ammonia. Then you can use a really deep layer (really good for enrichment so great job with that!) without having to constantly change it out.
Thanks for your comment! I haven't found any issues with my boys on cardboard, in fact the only ammonia smell comes in areas they pee like litter trays and baskets which get changed every 2-3 days. I've found that wood based beddings affect my more with chronic respiratory issues more than cardboard does. I also do mix cardboard and a shaving sometimes and I don't find it changes anything but the texture. I'm always trying out new things but cardboard seems to be working well for me. Can you point me to these studies?
@@FaithfulRattos cardboard is several layers of paper so with many rat keepers being against using paper bedding due to ammonia issues, I'd imagine cardboard has a similar issue
To help remove your substrate, you could get a cheap shop vac and just suck the substrate up. I used to do that in my large guinea pig cages if I used disposable bedding.
im as jealous as hell now as i love that pine cone hammock you have as i do a autumn and winter theme and would love that material for hammocks as it would look so good in my autumn cage lol
Cleaning cages is a workout 😅 whenever I clean and set up the mice and rat cages I take a shower and a long nap afterwards, I'm sort of dreading cleaning my free roam area even though I know it's getting time 😭
I 100% feel this! We let the boys free roam in the living room and I have to hoover up everyday! Sometimes it's a lot, but it's worth it for them and to see their happy faces when they're running around!
just wanted to say thank you for telling me where you got the bamboo bridge from and i have just got one from wilkos which came today but think its going to be too long for my cage as i only have a single critter nation
@@FaithfulRattos thank you! I’ll need to make one then. I’m always looking for ways to make the cage more fun for my lil guys, I have two disabled rats so I still have the middle floor in my cage sadly but I bet they’d love a deep bedding area!
I have a friend who makes bespoke hammocks. As her about them. Heavenly hammocks. X
girl i lowkey love your hair!

@@Jumping4Fun54 it's doesn't. It has a much better absorbancy
@@FaithfulRattos the absorbancy isn't the issue though it's the ammonia build up
The ammonia build up is an issue because its not being absorbed. Regardless, cardboard doesn't have that issue for me👍
I LITERALLY LOVE you!!! New favorite rat UA-camr for sure
"IS that shit back there?!" I'm dead 🤣🤣
Did you know that "eat sleep sniff a rat repeat" was my quote actually? 😇 I have a hoddie with that hehe
I really wish you were on my friendslist, I'm new to ratty's and any advice is much appreciated. Jemma helps alot.

I use a spare storage box for scooping into. Honestly its so much easier than bin bags.
I love how much you love your babies! They have a great momma ❤️
Love your set up 🥰
Where did you get the big hammok
Hoodie hoods make great corner hammocks. You just add 3 shower curtain hooks and done. X
Good idea but I don't have hoods to spare haha
Do you have a ferret nation Cage? Great videos, I’m really enjoying them.❤
No, it's the fiesty ferret cage.
❤❤❤❤

You can bend them around, I have mine in a circle at the moment.
yeh i see they are held together with bendy wire and i,ll try to get it all in @@FaithfulRattos
yeh ive just seen it in your cage in a circle in your reacting to rat cage pt 2 video@@FaithfulRattos
where did you get the round wooden log perch that is screwed on with the bark on from
Furry Natural on Etsy
I love the cage, i think I am getting a similar one. But how did you make your littertray?
I just taped the perspex together.
I love your rat cage set up! We have the same cage!!! How did you make the deep layer for the bottom section?!
I made a perspex tray x

A plastic storage box makes cleaning easier, then you aren't fighting a rubbish big.
