I am so glad that I came across videos like these throughout my rat research because I absolutely was brainwashed by the whole 'complete nutrition' nugget idea... and I hate to think of how bored they'd have been! I love rat rations. It's so fun creating a varied diet for them anyway! Side note, I love how you edit your videos, I'm guaranteed a laugh as well as learning something new :) Take care, give your little pocket dogs a kiss from me! Xxxx
Oh I’m awful!!! I had no idea that this is what I should be doing!!! I didn’t even know I could make my own mix, and I knew nothing about the supplements. I’ll get on this in the morning I’ve been feeding a premade mix comes with dried carrots, or different types of seeds, peanuts, corn, things like that …and I’ve been giving treats like yoghurt, drops, cereal, goldfish, little bits of chicken, boiled egg, and the occasional piece of dark chocolate. I’ve only had my rats for about three weeks so I’m still learning. Thank you for this video❤
Ahh this is soo helpful! I just recently got rats and the only food I'm able to find so far are nugget types! I'm slowly trying to make my own mix altho it is a bit challenging looking for alternatives like the base mix since some of the stuff isn't available in australia but againn thank you for this!
Some people use horse/goat conditioning mixes as their base mix. You might have some luck with those. I would definitely join Rat Care UK to ask if the ones available to you are suitable x
I am in aus and just starting to get into this diet idk if you’ve progressed I imagine you have haha, but there are groups on Facebook that tell you some very helpful things, horse food is a go to, hygain senior and barastoc command I’ve heard a lot about
To anyone who uses the dandelion salad from Wilko, I purchased some last year and it had a lot of sharp thorny brances in it - so alwyas check before you put it into your mix :)
@Rosie-MaeHall there's lots of things you can use. Allen & Page green pea rabbit, Mr Johnsons special rabbit. I also usually use a pigeon mix and a horse conditioning mix alongside one of the rabbit mixes as my base mix.
@@FaithfulRattos Thank you, I was worried that my rats weren’t eating enough because I see a lot of people saying that their bowl should constantly be topped up.
That's a fine way to give it but for older bucks especially you don't want to be feeding them too much that's very protein heavy. I recommend feeding it in a balanced wet meal.
@Rosie-MaeHall I feed supplements in a wet balanced meal a few times a week or in their water. I have updated videos on this in a playlist called 'Rat food 101' or something similar ☺️
What are your or anyone's thoughts about homemade pasta?? I'm trying to switch my family to it, even adding in fun seasonings or veggies. Would dried home ade pasta be okay? My only recipe is just flour eggs a bit of oil and water.
There's a few brands that are suitable, red mills conditioning mix is one. You can also make a straights mix but supplements are even more important with that choice. I recommend reading The Scuttling Gourmet by Allison Campbell for more info!
Hello! I really want to make my rats a homemade mix but all of the recommended base mixes (Harrison’s banana brunch, etc) are not available in the usa. I’ve tried looking on forums and what not to find alternatives that are available in the us but I can’t find anything. Do you know of any? You don’t live in the us so probably not but it’s worth a shot haha
@@FaithfulRattos I order banana brunch from ratrations and remove the big banana chips. I save some for treats, the rest go to my niece's rabbit. I'm going to stock up on Wilko herbs and water btls.
Notice how rats seem so riddled with health problems ?it's not just because it's a rat lmfao .maybe it's what ur feeding the rat evermeal everyday .same sad thing with dogs an cats.
What are you actually talking about? No meal with this mix is going to be the same, especially not if it's scatter fed. Also everytime I make a mix I use different ingredients for variety. Yes diet plays a huge role in the health of an animal which is why I feed my rats in a way that both mimics how they would eat in the wild and also it's nutritionally sound. Again what's the alternative to what I'm doing?
Ummmm saying cat food around ratties 🤣 Maybe he thinks he's the food. . I love Robbie Williams and was singing its great to be a cat.. My ratties weren't impressed 🤣🤔
I now have an updated version of this video from 2023. Link can be found here:

I love fish4dogs sample bags for my mix. Plus they have one that contains kelp, green mussell great for joint care.

@@FaithfulRattos no, thank YOU!! this is literally the best rat diet video I have watched so far, and I have watched a lot!
It is a massive shame that your channel is not more popular, you deserve to have as many subscribers a Emiology!
This is a great video! Thanks so much, im so glad I stumbled upon this. Now i know the proper ratios of what my ratties need. 🐀 🐁
It says that harrisons banana brunch has been discontinued in the uk sadley, do you know what other mix is good that i could get please? xx

How much dry food should I be feeding each of my male rats + vegetables, fruit and other foods like eggs?
12-20g a day per rat of mix, depending on their appetite and body condition. Extras like veg a couple of times a week.
@@FaithfulRattos Thank you, I was worried that my rats weren’t eating enough because I see a lot of people saying that their bowl should constantly be topped up.
This isn't the best way as they can overeat and become over weight. But 15g is much less that you expect
Am I wrong adding Cucad3 to scrambled eggs or boliled cod fillets?

yeh i saw that wilkos pea feast stuff in my local store but it worried me in buying it with the alfalpha pellets in it

Yes.
Aldi now sell pumpkin, a mix flax seed
Oh cool
I need to know where to get good rat food base in the USA
Join Shunamite Diet USA on Facebook, there's lots of people there to help you 🙂
I can’t get Harrison’s banana brunch where I am and I am getting my rat next week. Any suggestions on what to substitute for that?

You can buy Harrison's banana brunch on amazon 😊
@@chloethomas9265 how do I get it in the U.S?
When you say you're getting your rat, do you mean you're getting only one? Rats must be in pairs or groups, they can't be alone! :)

You can use oxbow adult rat food 😁
Whilst it's the best of a bad bunch it's not enriching enough for rats.
how are you know. hope your bearing up after all your losses.
Sad news Wilko's may be gone soon😞
The base mix isn't appropriate anymore anyway

If a diet is complete there is no need for supplements 😭😭🤣
I really don't get what your point is? Noone said the mix was complete without the supplements? The supplements are part of the diet?
