    What a great idea, even shows pictures of the heater inside a van. Might kill you as the exhaust is built in, but what the heck, you will die warm.

    Hello from Calgary, Alberta.
    I just bought the Hcalory SS2 box heater. Has a cool Auto on & off feature.
    No need to remove all those rivets. Just unbolt and remove the heater to access the fuel tank and pump. I'm getting 150+c exhaust heat. Too much air intake restriction will reduce performance.

      Hi Danny
      Yes, that particular Hcalory looks a pretty good unit.
      I got put off them when they sent me their Hcalory HC-A04 Portable Trolley Diesel Heater to review....
      I gave a scathing review of it because it was genuinely crap!
      Have a look: ua-cam.com/video/zg7bDURnhvQ/v-deo.html
      But reading up on your SS2, well that does seem a lot better 👍

    I like the portability of that - could take it many places and as an emergency heating unit.
    Wonder what the draw is for the 12v side?
    Nice one, great review.

      Thank you, Yeah, nice unit eh?
      Very portable ( under 10kg ) and very practical.
      On the 12v side: draw on start-up is 10amps, then it drops way down once the glow plug turns off, and it self ignites the fuel. It will run at below 1amp.!
      Definitely the best Chinese unit I have tested so far 👍

    That looks a great heater, my only thought about improving it would be to replace the rivets with nutserts for ease of access in future .
    Edit: They are selling the same one on Ebay at £160 and one that looks as though it might have same spec but in a different case that is screwed together. I have in a box in my garage what was at the time the first of the Eberspacher Hydronic all in one units, that I paid £750 for in 1996 and fitted to my car, I removed it when I sold the car in 2013 and I have been thinking about how best to make use of it, but it's not an air heater and needs plumbing into a water system, I thought about a small car heater with an integrated fan but it would also need some kind of expansion tank and a lot of cobbling together, at the end of the day one of these ready to go heaters is looking like the better option and the Eberspachers seem to make good money on Ebay.

      Hi John
      Yes, I agree, riv nuts would be the better option. Maybe the next time I strip it down I'll change to them.
      Be interested if you've got that eBay link....
      Yes, back in the day, when Eberspacher had the monopoly, they charged insane money for their units.

    Couple of thoughts.
    1 you'd need to be careful drilling the pop rivets on the tank side would be easy to puncture it?
    2 can you show the sliding door on your workshop....would be interested in seeing its construction ?

    • @TheWrinklyNomads
      @TheWrinklyNomads  День тому +1

      Hi Phil, yes, I did check before I drilled them out.
      The door is quite big but just runs using hanging rollers at the top and a guide rail to the bottom. Works quite well. Have to clean out the bottom runners now and then, but generally pretty good 👍

    I would put a guard round the exhaust on the inside of your shed, save wasting heat, I did see one guy who ran the exhaust gases through a radiator before having it exit his workshop…

    • @TheWrinklyNomads
      @TheWrinklyNomads  6 годин тому

      Yes, I have been considering that option as well.
      I've also seen a few run exhaust heat through a small radiator or even heat water with the a heat exchanger. But I'll probably run as is for a bit first, until I decide on exact position etc....
      Thanks for watching 👍

      I would say shower proof, as it's pretty well sealed. I a heavy down pour the rain may get in.
      This is what Sunster say on the Amazon sales page:
