Thank you for this very HELPFUL video! Also, I think that #howtobehappyjanuary doesn't always have to do with HAPPY videos. Many times working through negative emotions helps your overall happiness in the long run. So, thank you for doing videos on both topics.

Will have to start doing yoga, I've been putting it up for so long..
Also I think that it's ok to have plastic surgery as long as you are fully confident with yourself _before_ the surgery and you're not getting the surgery because you think you're going to be magically happy and all confident. :)

I don't usually comment on videos but I just want to thank you for being so honest with us. Everyone who is subscribed to your channel obviously likes what you do. But me personally, I love who you are and how you can share something so personal to people who you don't even know. You are a beautiful person no matter what choices you make in the past. And as far as the plastic surgery goes, hey, you wanted it and what's done is done. You are so amazing, Nikki. I just want you to know that I am so encouraged by you

When I lay down at night for sleep, my sort of "mantra" I say over and over again in my mind is the bible verse:
When you lay down, you will not be afraid; when you lay down, your sleep will be sweet.
    -Proverbs 3:24
Thank you for such an informative and inspirational video, Nikki!

My mom started doing yoga five years ago, one year ago I finally get convinced and started taking yoga classes, I can't even explain how my body started to changed, I had always been flexible but yoga made me do things that I never imagine. I recommend this to everybody that wants a relax and fitness time.

I'm so glad you found yoga. I was a competitive dancer growing up and when I was 12 I was diagnosed with scoliosis. I suffered a lot of back and shoulder pain and yoga has helped erase that. Also it has literally aligned my back a great deal (it will never be perfectly straight and I am okay with that). Yoga has truly changed my life! I started with Yoga with Adriene ("find what feels good" lol) and now I go to a hot yoga studio. I have been practicing for about 6 months now and I recently made the decision to make yoga my career. So in September I will be going to Nicaragua to study yoga for a month with two amazing teachers and I will be a RYT200 when I get back. It makes me so happy to hear yoga having such a positive effect on others!

"Self-acceptance" & "self-love" don't mean settling for things that make you unhappy...
If getting some kind of physical surgery or enhancement makes YOU feel good about yourself, that can be an act of self-love. In other words, are you doing it because you believe it will make you more lovable to someone or society? Or is it something that will give you more comfort, confidence, etc.? It seems like it's splitting hairs, but one is motivated by love, & the other is an unhealthy perspective motivated by fear. The same is true of anything; whether it's wearing makeup, getting fit, or dressing a certain way.
Personally I don't think you owe us any explanations, Nikki, but I appreciate your willingness to address these topics.

I often feel discouraged, worthless, hopeless, and stupid on the daily but when i watch your videos they put a smile on my face and make me feel like i am more than i tell myself i am. This year my ultimate goal is to stick to something, i always make goals to eat better, exercise more, be more consistent with my youtube videos. But i always fail, i get lazy and cant be bothered editing, i have a bad day so i say screw it to the diet and eat junk food, and dont wanna admit to the proof that i am unfit by going for a walk and running out of breath before i hit the driveway. So i thought this year i would but those goals aside and just try to stick to something. your encouraging videos make me feel like it is possible. Thank you for being you.

Hey Nikki! I'm not necessarily a "big girl" neither a "skinny girl" I'm just short, cuddly and soft as my friends would say. I am happy with the body God has given me and I've learn't to love it but I feel unhealthy as I don't eat the right foods and working out seems so intimidating to me! I want to be healthy for God because I want to be able to do anything he asks without strain. I want to treat the body He has given me with respect and to keep the body He has given me healthy. I love Jesus and he's a big part of my life. I also love when You include your faith in your videos, you're so bold and I love the way you express his love. (I tend to chat with Him before I go to sleep too, I think it makes me a happier person and reduces my worries.) Thank you for this video because a fitness routine doesn't seem that intimidating! I feel a little bit more motivated and I want to enjoy becoming healthier, not think of it as a chore or something.
    Keep doing what your doing♡♡♡

However, this has been the hardest year of my life friends-wise, and having these videos to watch really does encourage and inspire my happiness. I love what you said about your surgery! I've never had it, but I don't understand why people get so upset over others having it. It's your body, you do what you want with it--and if you're unhappy with the way it is, and you have the money, who is anyone else to judge?

Nikki I've been subscribed to you for a few years and only ever watched every other video. I started watching your vlogmas and fell completely in love with you and your relationship with god, the world and Dan (I even had my boyfriend watching!) Last year as a 21 year old i got baptized- it was something I knew I was missing In my life, and just something that I needed to do. Growing up I wasn't living in an appropriate setting for a child to grow and flourish, it was abusive and effected me mentally. Watching your videos helps me remember that I am not alone in the world in so many ways.
Keep doing being yourself Nikki, I love these videos!

I had mentioned this last #HowToBeHappyJanuary but I felt it was worth a mention again.
First thing in the morning, I pray. I know it may seem weird because a lot of people pray before they go to bed at night and I do that to but I also think it's important to pray first thing in the morning for a few reasons
    1. It starts a daylong dialogue with the Lord. You start that conversation and as good/bad things happen during the day you can continue the conversation.
    2. When you first wake up in the morning you have a clear mind, heart and soul. So, you can take that time to talk to the Lord with a open heart and mind and ask the Lord to be with you during the day.
    3. It gives me a positive outlook on the day knowing that I have started that conversation with the Lord and he knows my day ahead.

I think if something about your appearance bothers you then it is absolutely okay to change it. It does not mean you don't love yourself or anything of that nature. The biggest part of loving yourself is about what's on the inside not your outward appearance. And if you're unhappy with something about your outward appearance and you can change I don't see why you shouldn't. I disagree with those people who get angry over those who get plastic surgery and still preach self acceptance. It's just not the same thing.

It was so refreshing clicking on this video and getting a talk rather than just "this is what I eat this is what I do to exercise" I frequently workout but after watching this I feel so motivated to look at physical activity and my wellbeing in a different way. I've stopped doing yoga for about 3 months not bc I don't like it but because of time scheduling but I know I can fit it into my schedule especially bc I'm subscribed to Adrienne! Thank you for bringing up God, I feel as he's been reaching out to me for a while but it is I who needs to take his hand and better my relationship with him. Thank you Nikki♥️

Hi Nikki, hello from Singapore! Thank you so much for doing what you do. I love what you did in the previous video.
I come from a background of eating disorder, borderline personality and obsessive compulsive disorder for 8 years.
There's a point in my life I couldn't hold a job and get out of the house until 6 pm when I chanced upon your channel. Watching you restored my hope in God for recovery and helped me find the courage to live life again.
I remember crying and praying to God to restore my life when I watched your videos.
By His amazing grace and support from friends, I'm now a food therapy consultant running my own startup called Good Food Heals and my first healthy cafe opens in February in the CBD [please come when you're in SG!].
Through my health journey, I've learned that health means taking care of our whole person - body, soul, and spirit.
We can change our life one meal at a time.
I've made my first UA-cam video about how I stayed cough flu and fever free during my 8 years of struggle with ED.
    There's power in vulnerability.
Thank you daring to be authentic to encourage people like me.
If there's hope for me, there's hope for anyone of you reading this too.
    x Val

Ah you lucky butt! You got to go to the Tone it Up Retreat! I have been recently been a tone it up member since October 2014 and wow it changes your whole lifestyle. I feel as some feel getting fit is sometimes solely just loosing weight. But getting fit is also getting toned and building muscle mass! Since I've worked out, I've always been around 90-96 lbs but since I've started to work out, I am now 108 lbs. This is coming from a 18 year old, 5"2 college student, who struggle through her whole life with always being underweight and also dealing with a health problem. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Working out honestly does make you happy!

I am a bit chubby and ever since i started walking to home from school instead of taking a bus, my legs have slimmed down a lot. I get a lot of fresh air and i sweat a little bit every time. It feels so so so good to know that i am exercising my body and relaxing my mind. Grrrr love walking.

To help my kids wind down at night--I have them turn in their 'devices' by dinner. Then, an hour before bed they each take showers, brush teeth, etc. so they should have about a half hour remaining of 'quiet time' to do a devotional or read or draw, or write--anything that is calming. I also bought lavender and eucalyptus candles so they can burn during that last hour before bedtime. Lights out is about 9 1/2 hours before wake up time. I feel that sleep is also important for growth and healing:)

My biggest DESIRE: I honestly could sum up this video in one word, it would be encouraging. I'm at the time where I should start thinking about college and my future, although I would really want to know what that is, I sadly don't. Preparing for my junior prom next year is very important to me, and I wanna stay healthy. I really want to learn to stretch more, as well as have abs. Iv'e always tried working toward abs, but I kind of have a little fat on my lower stomach area. It does not phase me, but it sometimes does, ya know? Ive been working toward that and I really hope to achieve it one day. This video is truly inspiring, and I hope to love my body as much as you do. Thank you for your kind words in the video. Giveaways are not only about being the "most person who comments on your videos," it's about who truly cares about their life as much as your own. Thanks for sharing Nikki. Hope you feel the same. :) #howtobehappyjanuary

It's not that Nikki is trying to push religion on us or anything, but when something is such a big part of someone's life it's hard not to talk about it... It would be like saying "why do you talk about your family/friends in most videos?"

    • @jamienelms1914

sammy28 Family and friends are completely different than religion. She could have said to just take some moments at night to reflect on your day and goals for the next. And then she can give the example of praying that works for her. Not everyone practices a religion, so praying or meditating does not always apply. I don't think she was trying to force her religion on anyone, but just saying that's what works for her helps people not be so defensive when they watch her. I like her no matter what. It doesn't bother me!

I don't think believe is the correct word to use. Support or accepts is better. And the majority of the US actually does support gay marriage. They have no problem with it. They just don't understand or agree with homosexuality. The issue with religion (and Christianity specifically) is that it pulls morals and ethics into it. People who are agnostic or atheist don't believe you need religion to have good morals or be an ethical person. It's not to say that someone who does is wrong but when it is expressed from someone who is religious to someone who isn't, the emphasis and push to believe is there. That is just my opinion. Not trying to make anyone mad.

I was very leery about going to yoga and tosses back and forth between wether I should go or not or if I'd be embarrassed but! I just took my first yoga class yesterday and I found that I loved just the relaxation of the class(and the poses too).. I felt so happy and had forgotten my daily struggles almost as if I had been sleeping. I can't wait to go back.. Thank you so much Nikki for taking me into going to yoga😍

I love walking! I've been slowly getting into yoga. Unfortunately the yoga classes my school offer are during the time where I committed myself to chorus, and I'm still picking that over yoga. I wanted to look on youtube, so I'm really glad you put a recommendation up for a yoga channel!

Such great timing! I spent the whole day researching treadmills to buy, and upon deciding which one I wanted, realised that I should probably get a mat for it. Then I started thinking about yoga mats and thought, "What if I tried yoga?" before thinking "LOL yeah right" (pretty much for the same reasons that you didn't want to do yoga at first.) But then I came across all these yoga blogs and realised that SO many people do and adore yoga. This got me thinking that maybe there are some benefits to yoga, so I decided that maybe I would just do some stretches when I wanted to. I ordered my treadmill and a gorgeous yoga mat, then watched this video. SOLD! I'm going to try yoga as soon as my mat comes in the mail, and I have this sneaking suspicion that I'll learn to love it, just like you did! Last year I was feeling so melancholy at times, and realise now that a large part of that was because I wasn't being active at all. I guess my mind was stuck in the notion that playing ball sports is the only way to do exercise, and since I am TERRIBLE at sports, I didn't do anything except for the compulsory PE classes at school. However, I soon realised that I really do love running and swimming, and that I want to be active this year to make a happier me. That's why I ordered the treadmill. And you're part of why I'm going to start yoga. Thanks, Nikki! :) Sorry about this reeeaaally long comment!!!!

Hey Nikki! As soon you started to talk about yoga helping cerebral palsy I just had to leave a comment. I am a 13-year-old girl who has cerebral palsy-and let me tell you, the road to walking has been extremely difficult. My cerebral palsy was caused by being born premature, and because of my fragile state- I had a minor stoke. I am effected by this disability from the waist down. this causes the muscles in my legs to tighten constantly, though after having two surgeries I have more muscle movement, strength, and mobility. But I did it! I am now walking with a walker and orthotics. I have finally got the motivation to improve the quality of my life, now that I have accomplished the goal that I have been trying to reach my whole life. I have been changing my eating habits, (eating healthier) I have made a small exercise routine (which I have done for the past six days! That is a big accomplishment for me.) I have a guidance counselor, and she recommended mediation. I love meditating in the mornings now, it brings me an extreme sense of peace and motivation. As for yoga, I have been wanting to start doing it, I thought it would be a good way to incorporate my physical therapy stretches into everyday life/a more interesting way to do them. Though, because of my lack of strength in my legs and the fact that they do not fully straighten , I do not know what I would be able to do correctly or for that matter, where to even start. I would really appreciate it if maybe some of you guys left some suggestions? I have struggled with depression for about two years, and it has finally passed. I am now able to move into a new chapter in my life, and more than ready to do so. Thank you Nikki, for helping me get to where I am today.

I loved this! It's inspiring. I just landed my first Pilates job as an instructor and I couldn't be more excited. It came just in time for the start of the New Year so it feels even better that I am finally doing something that I love. In the classes that I teach, I always incorporate yoga. Mainly because I found Pilates while I was an avid yogi. I love combining the two for a great workout. Like you, I also hate running.. so this is the only form of exercise that I actually enjoy doing. So glad to hear that you found something you love :) Happy January!

I enjoyed this video, Nikki. I appreciated that you were able to address the surgery questions without being defensive. That's not easy. As a Christian woman, I found some difficulty in finding a yoga practice that is compatible with my faith. Some Christians will say that Christians should NEVER do yoga, but I am more of the opinion that you need to find a teacher/practice that focuses on the physical rather than the spiritual elements of yoga. To yoga purists, that means that I am not REALLY doing yoga, but I am not concerned with being the perfect yoga student. :) Anyway, I just wanted to add that thought to the "conversation." I was lucky to find a wonderful teacher whose style meshed well with my faith journey. As she put it, God gave us breath, and yoga is all about the breath.
