Hey peeps 😊 Quite a few comments about the broken trace at 8:13 - but unfortunately it’s dirt 😢
    Thanks for watching!

Love how this series shows just unlikely we are to make money trying to fix up broken things off ebay! Keep those expectations realistic out there guys!

I learned early on I am not making money off repairing these. For me, I enjoy the work, I like being able to take something broken and make it useful again, and learn in the process. If I make a few bucks, it usually just goes towards buying more junk lol

I'm old enough to remember when every neighbourhood had a tailor, cobbler, and repair shop. When your toaster or radio stopped working, you didn't throw it out and buy another one out of the Sears catalogue, you brought it down to the repair shop where a man with a thick accent and grease-smeared coveralls would repair it for you, good as new.

At 8:13 there is a chip in the board that has cut the line i am not sure that is your issue but its worth a try to restore the line and see what happens it its in the bottom area a little brown sport that has cut the connection to the line

    Hey Joey!
I've been watching a lot of your videos lately. I think what you do is really great. Not only do you contribute to the environment by not simply throwing away broken devices, you also motivate other people to do the same and show how it's done/how your process of repairing is. That helps a lot if you want to start doing it yourself. Great job, keep it going!
One thing I always ask myself though. How do you even find these broken devices on eBay? No matter what I do, I either find things that are too expensive, completely broken devices that are not worth repairing or parts that have already been opened and a large part of the components are already missing. What is your process to find those broken devices? Thanks!

Liquid metal is ridiculous stuff. I hope a less potentially damaging solution for efficient cooling comes about before it becomes the new standard for ALL new consoles and PC's.

Tough luck on that one. Know that every video I watch I’m rooting for you. At least you took the L for learning as my old boss used to say in electronics sometimes training cost money.

Don't forget that if it isn't completely fixed. you can still sell it as for parts, or keep it around for any donor parts/parts that may be useful!

I feel like liquid metal in place of thermal paste was just a terrible idea. Is it because thermal paste degrades over time and maybe liquid metal does not? I've just seen so much trouble coming from that liquid metal in these consoles.

      @Sulphur_67 Місяць тому +1

liquid metal is like having the ailicon die be integrated inti the cooler from conducting heat really ducking fast, but tbh they should’ve gone the xbox route with a vapor chamber instead

You are very bold to try that chip first. I’m pretty sure the chip is dead now. I just don’t mess around with chips like that unless I’m 100% sure he is the issue. Even then I’m still hesitant because of how easy they die. The I’m about to waste my time and money feeling comes up. 😂 Anyways good video and Better luck next time.

I mean, you're at a direct loss. But you're getting donor-parts - which can be reused of sold off, which can lessen that loss somewhat

Don't kick yourself. These PS5's don't seem to be designed or engineered very well with repairability in mind. In my experience in ebay items (parts or not working) you usually only find the projects like this where it's a no-fix.

They don't really need liquid metal. Sony just did that to help the lifespan of the PS5s, since hardly anybody actually does maintenance on their consoles. They just use them non stop for years.

Not trying to offend anyone with a job like yours, Joey, but are ALL of these consoles a piece of crap? Because all I see on the internet is everybody fixing PS3-4-5-s and Xbox consoles. Why do these break all the time?? I mean that I like all these videos, because I learn a lot from them. But the quality of these devices is bullsh*t.

It's a numbers game. With a lot of consoles out there some will just fail on their own, others will just have people being negligent with them and others will just have accidents.

Recently diagnosed and repaired a Nintendo switch lite that was destined for scrap by using your videos as a guide (I cannot stress how helpful they were to a novice repairer).
