    I had a check engine light on forever. In -38°C I checked everything. I had my battery checked with a hydrometer. 2 cells were shot (the battery charger read 12.5 amps which indicated battery fully charged and therefor, good), but you must have battery cells checked by hydrometer.
    Long story short....I don't know or remember all I did, but after having battery replaced the check engine light went off. Simple fix.
    Coolant light still on. I believe its the coolant tank float. OBD test indicated rear O2 sensor buggered.
    270K. Runs like a charm.
    I'm by no means a mechanic, so I only absorb 30% of complex mechanical speak let alone fix the problems. But, I got my 2003 Saturn Ion free and fixed all I could myself using junkyard parts (except new, metal windshield wiper motor transmission).
    Sometimes I think I can cure a rainy day!

    What everyone should do is buy a can of regular Seafoam with the red lettering. Pour a canister of that with a half tank of gas. I had the check engine light with a P030 code and was worried I had to replace the catalytic converter. After driving about 150 miles or so, the light came off and saved me hundreds of dollars on costly repairs.

    So thorough! I commented on one of your other posts and you said to check my AT fluid level for overfilling (causing stuttering on acceleration or hill climbing). I never heard that and almost didn't believe it but checked this morning and pulled some out. I've not road tested on a suitable grade yet but it beats chasing these other issues yet. I hope that was it. Kudos! No one else suggested that. I'll follow up.

    If your cel stays on it is called a "hard code" and needs attention soon. If the light comes on, than goes off for a while, and than back on, that is called a a"soft code" and will become a hard code at some point, but is safe to drive until it stays on, or corrects itself and stays off. If the light comes on and the car still drives fine, you can still drive it home, or to a shop as soon as you can. If the starts running bad, looses power or stops all together, than that is the time to call a tow truck.

    I have 2002 Miata that needs to pass emissions and registration. It recently had a engine swap, but the light is always on. We have tried the reset methods, and all the tests, but still am unable to figure out the problem. Any help helps

      I think I have your answer Dalton. You have a 2002 Miata made by Mazda. I have a 2000 Ford Ranger which has the same engine as the Mazda pick up. My "check engine" light has been on for many years. I finally had my very reputable mechanic check it out. After running diagnostics he finally determined what the issue was. He told me that, in these older engines, where several or just one piston shaft in the engine block, there can be a small crack. As time goes by the crack naturally gets longer or wider. It's nothing to be overly worried about. It's just a sign the engine is getting old. However this causes carbon monoxide to leek into the atmosphere, so the "check engine" light alerts you to it. I have 170,000 miles on mine. Anyway, if you have over 80,000 miles or more, I wouldn't go down the path of replacing this and replacing that until your bank account is tapped out. You may be chasing after a phantom. If you really want to find out if what I've told you is your issue, take it to a trust worthy mechanic who's been in business many years. He should have the advanced diagnostics to run a thorough heck on your Miata. And like I said, if you have a lot of miles on your car, this is most likely the issue. Just don't waste a ton of money only to be stuck with a "check engine" light that still won't go out. I found out the hard way, so maybe I can save you the money I wasted chasing a phantom. Take care guy and best of luck. Oh also, a good mechanic may be able to pass your car through inspection, which should get you two more years of "I don't have to worry about it for 2 more years." This is the case in my state of NJ. Don't know about your state. Hope it works out for you, I always wanted to own a Miata.
      Mazda trucks like mine and your car have a reputation for longevity if the general maintenance is not neglected. Good luck. John Osk in Jersey.

      Extreme measure is 1 gallon of laquer thinner in 15 gallon gas tank. The CAT converter MAY affect O2 sensor. Alternatively, take out O2 sesnsor and decarbonize and clean. Heard all this on UA-cam. Haven't done it myself. Or change rear O2 sesnsor ($70).

    My 2006 Corolla 'check engine light' is on constantly. The guy at Firestone plugged his hand held computer into my car just below the dash. He read a code and said that it was a part in the transmission. He turned the light off and told me to come, if the light came on, again. Well, the light almost immediately came back on, so I went to a parts store and had them do the same computer and code reading. That person said the same thing about the transmission. Point being! This video didn't mention anything about transmission problems. My transmission on the car works well. I believe the light is on because of one the 34 possible causes mentioned in this video. So, why is the computer code saying it is a transmission problem?

    Best laugh i've had in a long time, blah, blah, blah will result in a check engine light, a check engine light, a check engine light...... Here's the laugh, a trustworthy mechanic, they don't seem to exist, they tell you what the monitor says, change the part, charges you and the engine light is still on, oh it must be something else, let's change this, oh light still on, I was afraid of that, main computer, $900 , oh cam roller chains, $2500, that should get your light off...... A "trustworthy mechanic", are there any left, parts changers is what they should be called, if they tell you that this part needs changing and the light doesn't go off, you shouldn't have to pay for their misdiagnosis, all these sensors are just a money pit and money maker for dealerships!

    • @proclaimliberty2000
      @proclaimliberty2000  5 років тому +3

      An oil change will not cause a check engine light to come unless the mechanic disturbed a sensor or actuator while performing the oil change. The most common cause of a check engine light is a loose gas cap. Make sure you hear a click when you fasten it back on.

    hi... My Toyota Revo vehicle has recently flashed the engine light for a long time (not blinking - just solid light) after driving for more than 1 hour.. it has happened 2 to 3 times since. Afterwards, I took it for a tune-up at a local car repair shop for brand new spark plugs, battery. Then after a week, the engine light reappeared again ... What could possibly be the faulty part? I'd appreciate your reply if you can sir. I'm taking it to a mechanic again tomorrow, but i'd like to hear your advice on this. Thanks!

    • @proclaimliberty2000
      @proclaimliberty2000  6 років тому +3

      Lawrence Kin It could be a number of different things. It’s very important that the car be checked with a diagnostic scanner to see what trouble codes are stored which will usually point you in the direction as to what’s wrong. The bottom line is you need a good trust worthy mechanic. I tend to steer away from dealerships as they are way overpriced on parts and labor.

    • @lawrencekin02
      @lawrencekin02 6 років тому +3

      @@proclaimliberty2000 I had it checked yesterday and a different mechanic checked it out but he didn't use an OBD2 diagnostic scanner, since my vehicle is using an OBD1 interface. So he manually placed a pin to the OBD1 and brought out his "codes bible/encyclopedia" for reference. After 10 minutes, he diagnosed and deemed that main culprit was the speedometer defect , since the code that registered was "42", which was really the speedometer problem. So I had the speedometer fixed, and it was revealed that the "gear" of the speedometer was causing the check engine light.. I had that replaced with a brand new gear, which cost me around $38 (gear part and labor included) . I had it for a test run for about 20 minutes and there was no more of the "check engine light" thankfully.

    • @lawrencekin02
      @lawrencekin02 6 років тому

      However, i have this question in my mind.... since there are not much OBD1 scanners in the market, would it be smart to buy these two things: 1) an OBD1 to OBD2 converter cable and 2.)
