What happens if an ACL tear goes untreated?

Not all ACL tears need to be surgically reconstructed. In fact, some people may tear their ACL without ever knowing it. Here the severity of your symptoms and lifestyle are the major determining factors for treatment.

Dr Paull, how do you treat a new client who appears to have had an acl tear for a few years but did not know it? Is there any treatment you can do to help that clien?

There are a lot of people walking around with ACL tears who don't know it, who may have torn it 20 + years ago. Often times later in life they have arthritis, so sometimes a steroid injection helps with the pain. That or they can get an ACL recon if it's indicated.
