Beyond the Scalpel with Dr. Paull
United States
Приєднався 24 лип 2020
Hi, I'm Dr. Paull, an Orthopedic Surgeon in Colorado Springs. I try to provide the most helpful information and answers about your orthopedic injuries and concerns. I also have a few thoughts about the current state of the healthcare industry in the United States. I'm one orthopod trying to disrupt the system and practice medicine the way it was meant to be practiced, as relationship-based care.

Got punched on the end of the finger while holding boxing pads now I'm here
Rubbish!
First you said they could take several months to a year for a bone bruise to heal, then you said fractures take 2-3 months so bone bruises take less than that. How does that make sense?
Help. The inside of my thumb went numb over a month ago and its still dead. Its constant. The only pain i have is when i press on the thumb side of my wrist. Im an artist and i was painting when it fell asleep. I have been drawing and painting for over 50 years and fear ive worn out a joint. The only other symptom is weakness in the same hand.
Dislocated my pinky, but at least i made the shot lol !!
I was playing soccer sprinting and felt a pop and pain behind my hamstring in the middle of my thigh I was able to walk right after it didn’t feel good but I could walk and didn’t bruise or swell but I would say it took about 3 months to fully start full jogs.
So you’re saying go to an actual doctor. Gotcha thanks for the waist of time
I bruised my foot in January it is now may and my foot is still not %100
I went the physio & he gave me exercises + said it would heal that was 2 months back i used to ride 30hrs a week cycling I still can ride but I'm mindful of it walking is painful but cycling not bad.. I'll prob look to get it drained
Been a month . Punch a table then had a Fig#+ … so I’m here knuckle still hurts
Don’t feel bad doc. Airlines still use dot matrix printers.
I had hip freak vision surgery. In middle of March pulling right side and the growing area? Is the common for the muscle to pull like that
The wind slammed me down a few weeks ago on the hard concrete. I injured my greater trochanter. But it does not seem to be broken, so it is probably a bone bruise. I learned the hard way not to bother with x-rays the last time I was injured with a different bone. What a waste of my money. I have to sleep on one side. The bruised tissue is getting better, but the bone still hurts. However, not as bad as immediately after the fall. I can still walk and sit and lay down, just not on that side as it presses on the injury. I now understand how people break their hip, what bone that usually means.
Guys I fell of my electric scooter hitting the breaks becuase an animal ran in front of the street….
Thank you. I understand now, it’s a bone bruise & I believe it happened when I had a back “ procedure “. that required for me to be completely under sedation. I know something happen, possibly while switching me from the surgery bad back to the hospital bed or I slammed into a wall or some had metal,object.. I’am sure I will never know. The back procedure was a total success & I had not had any pain at all since that time. My right leg which was not a problem came out of that procedure with a purple bruise on the outside of my calf., the top of my right foot, my ankle, all the way up my right side of the outside of my right leg all the way up to & including my hip - so you tell me what happened. A couple days later was my follow up visit with the Dr. I mentioned my leg was very painful, my foot & hip & what did he think about it, I ask “ did something happen?” He looked blank , “ no nothing happened”. So I will, never know. Since then I have been in pain for almost a mouth. Can’t go upstairs to my bedroom, sleeping on the couch or the recliner chair. Taking leftover pain pills from a different time & using the macabre warming strips on the ankle, foot & calf ( they have really helped). I have had two fall during this, seems like my right leg is not in sink with my left leg. Very slowly I think I am getting better. Using a Walker & going to PT. So much pain I have thrown up a few times & had strange dreams because of the pain pills. I called the Dr’s office & requested a script be sent in for me for pain in my right leg & that was handled right away. So what to do. My life is already pretty hard, I won’t go into it but this has also brought on depression. So someone was not prepared, did not plan correctly or just had an accident that I’am paying highly for. I do not want to sue or even complain but I would like to know what happened to my body while I was still under sedation. I would gladly have kept my back pain to avoid going through this - it hurts & I feel depressed. My husband has been wonderful doing all the chores including cooking, while being sweet & supportive towards me. My daughter too who is 40 & has CP, has been so helpful & trying to take care of me & help. I try to act like I am not in pain. Terrible situation & now I wish I had never done the “back procedure”.
lol what, he suggests to get an X-ray. Unhelpful
There was a situation and now I can't scroll with my left thumb without very noticeable pain.i read somewhere that rest is needed, but should I attempt move it like normal to my pain tolerance ?
I I tore my left arm bicep from the elbow. It’s been about six years for it. Is it possible to get it reattached
I have right arm torn bicep from the shoulder it’s been about five years since I tore it no pain or nothing. It’s already healed from what it was torn, but it’s not attached. Is it possible to get it reattached
I was playing soccer in wet grasss and i slipped and fell and cracked my finger i dint know if it was broken until i saw this vidd 😊
Cat bite no injection man 100 years
A teammate sent an unnecessarily fast pass to me in basketball and now my pinky has doubled in size and i can only move it a little but it's straight so i think its a jam and not broken finger
I was training my knuckles got cocky and failed to break the board, now im here 😞
why do you say "tear" when you mean "rupture" or vice vera , Two different things surely??? I mean, I would imagine that a tear might have some chance of eventually healing albeit partially, whereas a rupture would not. That`s a big difference.
The terms are generally used interchangeably, however tears can be partial or full thickness while ruptures would generally be considered full thickness
Dirt bike riders like here 😂
My thumb is broken and I have to put on a cast for 6 months and it hurts like hell 😢
I have also broken my right thumb 😢
My knee has started to crack and click as i go downstairs but recently started to get abit painful.
Hello, I broke my hand, did an oðperation, I take off cast after 26 days, about 7 days, my hand is sullen, is that normal.
I had a bakers cyst surgically removed from my right knee when i was 8 years old. I had 19 stitches. Why do some kids get them ?
39, always had popping and crunchy knee, zero pain and plenty of strengh and flexibility. My only problem : I'm also an examinor and when I walk between the students tables in a silent classroom, my knee pops sound embarassingly loud haha.

I assume I just bruised the greater trochanter. I was able to get up after the wind knocked me down a few days ago. We have had intense winds like I've never experienced my whole life. (I'm not frail. The gust was sudden and intense.) The bone area hurt a great deal when I sat in the car. The next day the pain was much less. A bruise developed under the skin. I cannot sleep on the side I injured. It still hurts, but I can walk and sit. I think if I did more than bruise the bone, I'd be in more pain. This video seems to confirm that.
Doc, my MCP joint of Thumb is hurting when I flex it forward (towards the palm) but only when I force it. no bone pain or anything else please tell me how can I fix this?
Dear doctor, please improve your pronunciation a little.
My last pushup was 10 months ago 😢. Wrist injury is one the disappointing and frustrating injury for sure.
i played thru a gamming injury 20 years ago then played games off and on to avoid the pain finally getting treatment now it might be a bit too late before joysticks on twisted metal too i could feel the pain from holding controller tight and repeat thumb movements sense then the pinky side of left hand is very sensitive to keyboard activities expecially games went back to try a keyboard game that only uses 456 keys and the area below the pinly exploded in pain only on that side with some in wrist as well i cant seem to get this too heal did i wait too long for treatment ? its 100 times servere under pinky then in writst but some slight wrist pain as well
Very helpful
Thank you for an honest video. I appreciate the information and honesty.
Dodgeball
You still reading these? Doctors aren't listening to me. Back of my shoulder blade and bottom of shoulder ( back of arm pit) . Full range of motion, no problem overhead. Muscles are tight on blade, constant. Telling impingement but pain not in front or where they say I should hurt, my pain is back of shoulder blade, down to arm pit. I kept getting an AP, where is a doctor. Modern medicine professionals are scary, no knowledge. I have exercised all my life , I know my body and have had rotor cuff surgery before, I know the mechanics of the shoulder.
I really can't give you specific medical advice, but sometimes when someone's shoulder mechanics gets altered the shoulder blade can be affected and one can get subscapular bursitis
Heard a pop while doing the splits. There was an immediate sharp pain and bounce back as my legs recoiled from the pain. This feels nothing like a pull. There is no bruise, but I can barely walk. And the pain is never ending even in a rested state. I keep reading that there needs to be a bruise but this is next level pain even without the bruise. Any thoughts anyone?
Are you sure this is your cause now I think I have a broken finger😂❤❤😅😅
Straight to the point...nothing bla bla bla... that's what i liked about this video.
i head a pop by my elbow, and while i can somewhere hook my tendo, there is some inflammation there so i can really hook it.... getting an mri done on Tuesday, i can feel the tendon and follow it to where it connects in my forearm bone, but its def somewhat sore. I also have pretty good supination with "slight pain" but slowly going away.
Damn i thought people would be more hurt to come here while i just crashed a dirt bike slamming my femur into the bars
Rubbish afvise
Sprained three of my fingers two days ago in a rugby game so here I am 😂😂
Thank you. I fell face forward on cement. I’m disabled and I wear a leg brace on my right knee for almost bone on bone and I walk with a cane. I get shots in my knees, but it’s my left knee that wasn’t covered with a brace that isn’t healing. The pain is excruciating on both sides below the kneecap it gets really hot. I ice it, but I can’t walk more than 25 feet, I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do.
Well thanks, Captain Obvious.
Lol- I tore my hamstring tendon off my seatbone w 5cm retraction, plus multiple other 50% tears. It hurt but I could ‘walk’. Kept working for 3 weeks before seeing a dr and getting the MRI. High pain tolerance is not always a good thing. 😂😂
