so i edit using premiere pro… export settings are… h.264, 4k, bitrate (CBR 55 mbps), render at maximum depth and use maximum render quality turned on, set ur frame rate to whatever it is u shot in, my encoding is set to software encoding and that’s pretty much it tbh
Amazing footage! It reminds me why I fell in love of making videos. Creative way of bringing information & inspiration in people's lives. And dji is the cherry on the cake. Need one badly 😅 now.
wow, how times have moved on, it was not that many years ago if you had shown that footage, you would have believed it had been taken with a professional TV broadcast camera
Ive only been following prosumer cameras like the Sony A7iii I'm not very familiar with pro broadcast cameras. Just curious which specific brand and model of broadcast camera is great with low light?
Even just 3 years ago you'd expect only something like a big old sony a7siii set up like the Virtual Japan videos are filmed using to result in this type of image quality
Excellent video showcasing the lowlight capabilities. I'm going to put this link in the description of my pocket 3 comparison vlog as it's the best I've seen. Thanks!
I found this video extremely helpful. Very nicely done. I especially like all the shooting info you included at the side of the screen. You just earnt another sub mate.
At around 2:40 the video quality combined with the scenery looked so good that it seemed like you were at some studio set with extras walking around lol entire video was great. 👍🏼 thanks
Best real world test of this camera's performance of the many reviews i have seen. Great work :) I get my Pocket 3 in 2 days and look forward to using it for some scenarios.
Some great footage here. I just got a Pocket 3, and I haven't been this impressed with a new camera for quite some time. It's amazing looking at the clips you shot with the ISO in the 50-400 setting, that it handles the low light scenario just fine without needing ultra high ISO settings.
Superb video of my favourite city! I've been twice (from Toronto) and plan to visit again, fairly soon. I've been considering the Pocket 3 for the past couple of days, and tomorrow will definitely order one. For my third visit, I was originally prepared to lug my Sony a7C atop a fairly sizeable, and not-so-light, Weebill S gimbal. My arms are already breathing a sigh of relief- thinking of the Pocket 3! On my last visit to London (October, 2019) I brought my Lumix LX100 with a Zhiyun Crane M2 gimbal. Back home (editing the videos), I wondered why the exposure seemed to keep changing during filming at night around Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street. Seeing your footage makes me breathe another sigh of relief in that it must be at least partially from the Neon signs and things around there! Once again, great job!
thank u 😎 glad u enjoyed watching a walk round ur fav city! u won’t regret buying the pocket 3, honestly it’s an amazing camera! those days of lugging a big Sony camera attached to a gimbal are gone! filming round lights at night can be tricky so I know what u mean but sometimes there’s nothing u can do as it’s out of ur control so don’t stress 👍🏾 enjoy it when it arrives!
Wow... these are totally amazing footages! I can't believe a mere tiny sensor lens could capture videos this good in low light. I'm actually browsing the market for a camera with good low light capabilities and can be pocketable which I'll be using to a music event and I think I found a prime candidate here. Many thanks to these awesome footages and I'll definitely gonna try your settings on my future vids.
Beautiful image. Some youtubers use it with 1/200 shutter speed at night and 60 fps no wonder your video looks much better. Thank you. Glad i got one but won't get it till tuesday.
thank u ☺️ yeah, I played around with different variations of the settings and these ones were what I thought looked the best! ur gonna love it when it arrives! enjoy! 😎
Dude...that was the perfect video for me to decide on what I need to do for my vids. I thought they all looked good, but I thought the last one you did with iso locked at 800 looked the best for me. Also brought back great memories of when I was in London last year.
finally someone walking around just filming and not talking the whole time in their lit studio about it! awesome video dude! im picking one up on friday.
Great video James, thanks for sharing. I’m waiting for my Pocket 3 to arrive and I’ll be using it on the very same streets in December. Is this straight out of camera or did you shoot log and grade?
thank u ☺️ ahh! exciting! ur gonna love it when it arrives! and with all the Christmas lights in December it’ll look sooo good!…all the clips are straight out the camera, no adjustments have been made apart from the 1 d-log m clip which I graded
I love the pro mode shots for city lights, it really fantasizes the area you're walking in. I had a few questions, I was hoping you can answer: 1) Are there any downsides for keeping it at those settings? Perhaps battery life drainage? Maybe stabilization is not as good and you have to walk more careful? 2) Would it be better to just do auto or pro mode for day time walking videos? If pro, why would anyone not use pro mode cause it looks so much better 3) Any ideas how I can go hands-free? Ways I can strap it to my bag without ruining the stabilization of it? 4) If I were shooting slow cinematic shots, what settings would you recommend there?
sooo to answer ur questions… 1. I personally haven’t noticed any difference with the battery draining quicker when shooting in pro mode vs auto. The stabilization is the same in both modes 2. When u say walking videos are referring to walking vlog style shots? If yes then I personally shoot most of my vlog style shots in auto mode as I find it does a really good job and when ur doing shots like that u don’t want to be messing around all the time changing settings 3. I’m sure there’s some accessories out there so maybe have a search on Amazon 4. I have a video going through the best settings for shooting a cinematic video so check that out hope that helps u out 😎
It's so good in low light. I heard the Pocket 3 has the same size pixels as the Sony 6700. So finally a company that learned to put less MP on the sensor. Nice to see you didn't shoot 60fps at night like I see many others do. You maximized the camera capabilities.
this seems to show me that the pocket 3 does a better, more realistic job capturing low light footage than the ace pro. of course i ordered both to test on my own. thanks for shooting with both and posting!
As I’m waiting for my pocket 3 to be delivered I am stoked that I found your channel. This footage looks incredible across all settings, but I’m curious if you’re able to see what the camera is doing differently in low light mode vs regular auto mode? My only guess is maybe a higher ISO capability?
Hi great video! I am more interested with auto plus minor changes like sharpness. But in your video it seems like the pro footage are “purposeful” and carefully frame while the auto footage are just simply walking around without framing. Wiild love if you also make an effort to frame the auto mode shots. Thanks!😊
thanks ☺️ yeah it’s hard to 100% completely eliminate the gimbal shakes when walking, I think it’s definitely better than the way iphone footage looks tho
I love your videos! I've just purchased a Pocket 3 and this video is great help. Am I right by thinking you had the wide angle lenses attached when shooting these videos?
Great low light footage. Can I ask, D-Log M records in HEVC H.265 rather than the more compatible H.264. Did you have trouble using the H.265 codec on your computer and in your editing software? My computer wouldn't play the H.265 encoded videos properly.
AM using Win 7 x64 on an Intel i7 processor computer + Sony Vegas 13 editing software. Sony Vegas won't even accept H.265, let alone render them. What's your setup and workflow? Thanks.@@james.loxton
killer footage! thanks for listing all of the settings for each clip. just curious...most of the walking videos i have seen from the pocket 3 have that little "gallop" in them...that up and down thing. you have somewhat less than most as it seems pretty hard to get rid of it unless you do the walk or something. are you walking in a specific way or does your arm shock absorb more than most? thanks!
no problem 😎 so with the walking, I basically just walked very slow and carefully, no sudden movements and tried to keep my arm from going up and down as I was walking, I’m not gonna lie it is tough especially when filming for long periods of time, if ur back ain’t hurting at the end of it then u ain’t doing it right 😂😉
Great Video with lot of different settings but I watched the video two Times and still have no Idea which ist the best setting :-( Additionally: any idea which ist the best setting for filming stars?
Looks like I am going to change some settings as I am truly amazed at the quality. It seems that in Auto or Pro normal color or D-Log they all look great ! I am going to change the White Balance and the Noise Reduction and from 30FPS to 25 especially when I go to London in a few months ! Thanks for all your tips !
Looks great James, thanks for showing us. Does anybody know what the Low Light mode actually does when bot normal en low light modes are set with the same Pro settings?
I follow a couple UA-camrs who use this camera. Their vids look amazing, but one thing I've noticed is that the second they zoom in on something, everything gets blurry. Is that just something that the camera can't handle or doesn't do well, or is that an issue with something they're doing on their end. I'm super impressed with this camera and tempted to pick one up to shoot home videos of my daughters, but just a little concerned about the zoom.
@@james.loxtonlove this video and would definitely watch a video you made on colour grading d-log videos on the pocket 3, I’ve just bought it too and really liked the shot filmed in d-log but no idea how to grade it. I would definitely love to try that out and any tips would be appreciated
I’m sold been contemplating for a while because I have a iPhone 15 pro max and insta flow pro gimbal but I love this quality and tiny form factor more.
Awesome vid! I think I prefer the footage shot in Pro Mode with iso range 50-400 vs Low Light mode with ISO 800. But more importantly... Where did you get the music??? NEED!!! 😁🙏🏾
In pro mode D log , does the file needs post processing or is it saved as ready mp4 ? I ordered P3 and should have it tomorrow. Going over the weekend to the park for a lights show late evening. Will use your low light settings
the files are all ready to use straight out the camera BUT if u shoot in d-log m use the conversion lut which can be found on the DJI website and then after you’ve applied that u can make any adjustments u want to the clips. applying the lut will make it easier for u vs not using it
Wow that looks extremely good! I'm saying no to the temptations of buying an Action 4 right now and wait for the next Osmo Action camera that hopefully can produce these kinds of results in night time. Thank you!
woohooo 🥳 u won’t regret ur purchase! no adjustments were made to any of the clips, they are literally straight out the camera (apart from the d-log m clip which I graded)
shooting outside without battery handle I got 2.5 hours of recording time before the battery ran out shooting at 4k 25fps… inside I only got 50 mins before it stopped recording due to overheating… the battery handle adds on a full charge if it’s self is fully charged so u would essentially double ur time (screen brightness was at 60%)
James I’m loving your content. Got my PO3 and I need inspiration. I really don’t want to have it sitting down like my other equipment. How long did this footage take and give me some info about the luts and sound. Thx bro.
thanks man 😎 just don’t over think it all and go out and shoot. I use artlist & epidemic sounds to get my music, so have a browse on those sites and pick some tracks and then put it all together. I didn’t use any luts in this video as it was all straight out the camera (apart from the d-log m clip which I graded) once u get in the flow of things it’ll all fall into place trust me
Well done I haven't seen it completely yet. At 2mn 10 it's excellent Very good also to have put the metadata A question: In these light conditions with a Sony AX100 I set the shutter to 1/25 to gain a little more and reduce the gain (or ISO) Is it possible in 25p to set the shutter to 1/25 with the DJI pocket 3? apparently it's not necessary but it would allow you to go even further in low light
thanks 😎 the results are just simply amazing in low light 🤯 so yeah good news, u can set the shutter to 1/25 which actually is the lowest u can take it down to
Walking around London at night with that is asking to get jacked. It has a wrist strap, do you feel like that would help secure it from thieves? Or will it just break?
thank u ☺️ I used 3 pieces of music throughout the video and they are… 1. Dear gravity - empyrean 2. Flint - experience sonder 3. We dream of Eden - outside in all are from artlist
yeah 3200k is just my personal preference… as u can see in the video there is a slight difference when shooting in low light mode but because of the 1 inch sensor normal video works really well too!
I am viewing this on mobile does it look as sharp in 4k tv? I remember checking DJI action 3 on tv and it was not as good as go Pro 11. Curious how this looks in tv or even DJI action 4
Hello jame. I intent to buy this device to film girls in dark like red light place in vietnam.(kkk) do you thing it suitable.. is it clear in night mode..? I need an advise.. thanks
Hey man, what technique do you use holding the camera when you film walking? I’d be so scared to film the standard way of holding the camera when there is so many people walking by haha, nice footage!
most of the time when I’m filming shots like this I have the pocket 3’s screen facing towards the sky and rotate the gimbal facing forward… I go over more of this technique in this video - ua-cam.com/video/n0ObpmrovDo/v-deo.html
it’s all about getting the settings right, I played around with so many different variations and these were the ones I thought looked the best. Also exporting the final video with the correct settings makes a massive difference to the final result
Auto Mode definitely looks better than low light mode. Low light mode is doing some funky stuff. I like pro mode with the DLog best was it graded to your liking? Looks really cinematic.
yeah I think low light mode just literally shoots up the iso, it’s not my favourite mode… the d-log m clip is probably my fav clip of the video, pro mode definitely makes the clips look more cinematic because ur able to control pretty much all the settings u want so can adjust them to ur desired look 😊
thanks ☺️ u need to make sure your firmware is up to date cos when I first took it out the box I didn’t have the image adjustment options. So once it’s up to date just swipe from the right side of the screen and you’ll see ‘image adjustments’ press that and u can adjust the sharpness and noise
hey man! I didn’t make any adjustments to any of the clips so all of them are literally straight out the camera. apart from the d-log m clip which I color corrected
Incredible footage Really!! This Camera is a Total Gamechanger with the 1inch Sensor, Mechanical Gimble Stabilization, Pro Mode, 4k 60fps, Excellent Audio with 32bit Float and many More Features.
Can you do a livestream on twitch with 7000kbps? im really curious what it will do with 1080p resolution. Also i hope it doesnt overheat when using with powerbank.
I haven’t tried livestream yet with it so I cant really comment on that… I haven’t experienced any overheating when charging using a powerbank but it does heat up when fast charging it
I’m not a massive fan of shooting in 60fps unless I’m slowing it down. plus because of the flickering lights issue I need to set my shutter speed to 1/50 so 25 fps is the perfect fit for that
Wow you’ve nailed the settings on this beast. Looks fantastic. . Best quality footage I’ve seen yet. Thanks for sharing 👍
ah thanks ☺️ yeahh it really is a BEAST! the low light quality is simply amazing! 🤩
It’s laughable how much better this is than any phone or other small camera

I’m sold been contemplating for a while because I have a iPhone 15 pro max and insta flow pro gimbal but I love this quality and tiny form factor more.
it’s an amazing little beast! u won’t regret getting one trust me 😎
Awesome vid! I think I prefer the footage shot in Pro Mode with iso range 50-400 vs Low Light mode with ISO 800. But more importantly... Where did you get the music??? NEED!!! 😁🙏🏾
thanks mate 😎 the music from this video is from Artlist
Can you lock the shutter speed? Say you're shooting at 4k 30fps, can you lock the shutter at 1/60?
yes! just make sure ur in manual mode and u can lock it in
Hello, cool video. Tell me please, why don't you shoot at 60 fps?
thanks 😎 I personally don’t like the look of 60fps unless I’m slowing it down
Another great vid! Got my P3 a few weeks ago and still cannot find any ND filters for it, everything everywhere is all back ordered, out of stock :(
thanks mate 😎 have u checked on freewell’s website, I think they have them in stock
In pro mode D log , does the file needs post processing or is it saved as ready mp4 ?
I ordered P3 and should have it tomorrow.
Going over the weekend to the park for a lights show late evening.
Will use your low light settings
the files are all ready to use straight out the camera BUT if u shoot in d-log m use the conversion lut which can be found on the DJI website and then after you’ve applied that u can make any adjustments u want to the clips. applying the lut will make it easier for u vs not using it
Sound from build in MIC or external? Thanks. Looking for better option for city vlogs as you show on this video
ah the pocket 3 will be perfect for that! sooo, this was shot with the mic 2 connected
Wow that looks extremely good! I'm saying no to the temptations of buying an Action 4 right now and wait for the next Osmo Action camera that hopefully can produce these kinds of results in night time. Thank you!
yeah it really is mind blowing how good it looks in low light 🤯 hopefully the action 5 will give us similar results 🤞🏾
Yea, I think this video sold me. I have to ask , Did you have to edit the video before posting or did the camera pick up these colors this perfectly?
woohooo 🥳 u won’t regret ur purchase! no adjustments were made to any of the clips, they are literally straight out the camera (apart from the d-log m clip which I graded)
Amazing Footage , But wanna ask hows the battery backup when shooting at 4k 30fps ?
thanks 😎 the battery backup handle?
@@james.loxton - i was asking in both conditions , with & without battery handle
shooting outside without battery handle I got 2.5 hours of recording time before the battery ran out shooting at 4k 25fps… inside I only got 50 mins before it stopped recording due to overheating… the battery handle adds on a full charge if it’s self is fully charged so u would essentially double ur time (screen brightness was at 60%)
@@james.loxton - thankyou james
At 2mn 10 it's excellent
Very good also to have put the metadata
A question:
In these light conditions with a Sony AX100 I set the shutter to 1/25 to gain a little more and reduce the gain (or ISO)
Is it possible in 25p to set the shutter to 1/25 with the DJI pocket 3?
apparently it's not necessary but it would allow you to go even further in low light
thanks 😎 the results are just simply amazing in low light 🤯 so yeah good news, u can set the shutter to 1/25 which actually is the lowest u can take it down to
@@james.loxton ok merci
Nice test, it looks amazing! I would love if you had a few 60fps clips too...
thanks 😎 yeah I’ll add some 60fps clips in future vids
Are you holding the gimbal when youre walking, or is it attached on your body somewhere?
I’m holding it
looks amazing but if only the gimbol was able to keep it smooth and cut out the up and down from walking .it would be film perfect
Im new to to all of this, how did you keep the camera so steady? Thx😮
just walk very carefully and slowly and I’ve found attaching it to a selfie stick helps reduce some of the up and down bobbing
Hi.I'm from ireland.Just back from town and on my video is flickering. What i should change in settings?
flickering lights? and are u shooting in auto or pro mode?
Walking around London at night with that is asking to get jacked. It has a wrist strap, do you feel like that would help secure it from thieves? Or will it just break?
Beautiful video where did you get that sound track though
thank u ☺️ I used 3 pieces of music throughout the video and they are…
1. Dear gravity - empyrean
2. Flint - experience sonder
3. We dream of Eden - outside in
all are from artlist
D-Log much better quality to my eyes thanks for doing the test
3200 k seems to cold, auto mode it's better
but do you see any difference between normal and low light mode ?
yeah 3200k is just my personal preference… as u can see in the video there is a slight difference when shooting in low light mode but because of the 1 inch sensor normal video works really well too!
Do you film while holding the camera in your hand, on a pole or attached to you?
a mixture. I’ve found attaching it to a selfie stick and holding it that way helps reduce the bopping up and down
Were you holding it with your hand or were you using a chest mount ? There is not much boobing effect but still there
holding it with my hand and attached to a selfie stick at times which I found helps reduce the bobbing
I am viewing this on mobile does it look as sharp in 4k tv?
I remember checking DJI action 3 on tv and it was not as good as go Pro 11.
Curious how this looks in tv or even DJI action 4
u know what, I haven’t actually watched any videos filmed on the p3 through a tv yet so not too sure
@@james.loxton but definitely it is better than go pro 12
great footage captures the evening very well
thanks 😎
Hello jame. I intent to buy this device to film girls in dark like red light place in vietnam.(kkk) do you thing it suitable.. is it clear in night mode..? I need an advise.. thanks
as u can see from the shots in the video it has amazing low light performance so yeah it should be all good for u for what u want 👍🏾
Hey man, what technique do you use holding the camera when you film walking? I’d be so scared to film the standard way of holding the camera when there is so many people walking by haha, nice footage!
most of the time when I’m filming shots like this I have the pocket 3’s screen facing towards the sky and rotate the gimbal facing forward… I go over more of this technique in this video -
ua-cam.com/video/n0ObpmrovDo/v-deo.html
The quality of your low-light video is better than any sample from the Pocket 3 I've seen so far. I wonder why that is.
it’s all about getting the settings right, I played around with so many different variations and these were the ones I thought looked the best.
Answer the main question is this color graded or not please
no adjustments/grading have been made to any clips apart from the d-log m clip
Such a nice video! What is the song called and where did you get it from?
thanks 😎 there was a few songs played in the video and they are…
Dear gravity - empyrean
Flint - experience sonder
We dream of Eden - outside in
Great video. How do you adjust the sharpness and noise reduction?
thanks ☺️ u need to make sure your firmware is up to date cos when I first took it out the box I didn’t have the image adjustment options. So once it’s up to date just swipe from the right side of the screen and you’ll see ‘image adjustments’ press that and u can adjust the sharpness and noise
Surreal footage. I’m getting mine this week 🎉
yes yes yes 🥳 ur gonna love it!
@@james.loxton just got it today! Thanks!
Hey james! Is the auto mode uploaded raw? Or you did some adjustments?
hey man! I didn’t make any adjustments to any of the clips so all of them are literally straight out the camera. apart from the d-log m clip which I color corrected
Dang! That that was so awesome! Thank you for the REAL video and REAL review! Have good one sir! 🫡
Is there a 4k 60fps in low light mode?
unfortunately not, max is 30fps in low light mode
@@james.loxton i see. Thanks
Incredible footage Really!! This Camera is a Total Gamechanger with the 1inch Sensor, Mechanical Gimble Stabilization, Pro Mode, 4k 60fps, Excellent Audio with 32bit Float and many More Features.
thanks 🤩 yeah it’s literally next level! defo worth the wait!
What's this background music from 1:30 🥰
it’s… dear gravity - empyrean
I love this footage. Thank you.
only possible with this little beast 🤩
I also have an DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and love it. Great video that shows how good the low light quality is. Thumbs up for your video.
thank u ☺️ yeah it’s a amazing little beast
Man how do you got rid of the up and down effect cause man the video is so smoothhhhh
u just gotta walk sooo carefully and slowly and not make any sudden movements. if ur back ain’t hurting by the end of it u ain’t done it right 😉
@@james.loxton not all heroes wear capes! Thanks a lot king
Can you do a livestream on twitch with 7000kbps? im really curious what it will do with 1080p resolution.
Also i hope it doesnt overheat when using with powerbank.
I haven’t tried livestream yet with it so I cant really comment on that… I haven’t experienced any overheating when charging using a powerbank but it does heat up when fast charging it
Post production any changes?
no adjustments were made to any clips apart from the d-log m clip which I graded
Why do you shoot 25fps instead 60fps? Are the bitrate and sharpness better in lower fps?
I’m not a massive fan of shooting in 60fps unless I’m slowing it down. plus because of the flickering lights issue I need to set my shutter speed to 1/50 so 25 fps is the perfect fit for that
@@james.loxton is there loss of sharpness in quality in 60fps as well?
You don’t use any LUT on it?
no, literally straight out the camera 🤩
this is wicked cool. what do you use for editing?
it really is 🤩 I edit using premiere pro
bro this is crazy! It looks so good at night
yeahhh! it’s next level 🤯
Does the DJI Pocket 3 handle decently at night in street light on low light mode?
yes it does! even when it’s not in low light mode it performs really well in low light. I have examples of both in this vid
What was EV set too?
I didn’t adjust the EV
