There's still no perfect camera but you have a set of cameras that are good for different jobs: Sony A7SIII - Wildlife Canon R8 - Studio Pocket 3 - Walk and talk Action 4 - Scooter Nikon Z30 - eBay Blackmagic - eBay Insta Ace - eBay So, there's plenty material for the channel; comparing how different cameras do different jobs and if they can do more than one. Once you find one camera that does everything better than the above cameras, then you have the perfect camera.

The thing I love most about the pocket 3; I am actually making MORE content because it does everything so well without the hassle of "setup" and needing to be a one man set crew to get going. Plus it fits anywhere, has lens selections and ND's. This combined with an Ipad mini for editing is just a game changer.
Even though they didn't send you the test and review sample from DJI, they listened to you obviously, as you said for Pocket 2, "make it with 1" sensor and make it a bit bigger", so they did so. Very interesting surrounding good for this kind of vlog.

Always a place for your channel as long as you keep the great skill of complaining about cameras, technology, icy trails. You're just the master at it. People who know me say I complain, but you make me feel like i'm terrible at it. I've basically wasted my life at this point.
I just got the Pocket 3. It has certainly inspired me to create more, just because of how easy it is to deploy. Yeah one can always just take out a phone. But this gives you a much more options for vlogging and content creation. My best gear purchase of 2023.
When they will put 1 inch sensor in the action camera...i will buy it for sure. It will be perfect for me... for vlogging and fishing videos and also travel videos.
Have to admit, there is something appealing about something this small. Even with compromises. I do all my channel work with an FX3 and 14mm GM, flying on RS3 Pro. It's the same fundamental premise but huge and expensive. It'll never fail at any task I give it but I cannot take it indoors or near crowds most of the time. This, this will go literally anywhere. And I like that.

Bought one on launch day and have been loving it! I use it in my day-to-day shooting at a media agency. I’ve been mixing Pocket 3 footage with A7SIII and FX30 footage and not a single client has ever noticed. My boss just bought two for the company kit too. I would love a Pocket Pro with bigger sensor and either a proper zoom lens or lens array. I’ll still watch your channel, even though it has no reason to exist anymore.
We need pocket 3 PRO with Apsc sensor. Already pocket 3 is carried by most in a bag they give with creator combo. So, go the full length and make it big enough to compete directly with mirrorless. Then it will be the best all purpose camea(except zoom). Sony should try it.
Het Dude , great info with a comedic twist like usual! I am thinking of getting this for my YT channel as its blown up a bit.. Might be better than the Samsung s10 I've filmed on. I notice when I edit video's that you gotta watch the footage so much and check audio levels quality, Its good to see even one of the best UA-camrs mess up like me @10:27 Audio humming I learnt to not charge my phone when I was doing voice overs on the video. My 2 cents keep it up brother!!!!
Just made my first vlog using the pocket 3 and erm i did have a vndxmist filter on from Freewell, purchased by myself ! It is a great camera so far i am also loving its ease of use , small , light and compact to take with you anywhere, well except underwater i guess. I do find trying to judge exposure tricky with the small screen, no histogram, and tiny variable nds ! So i am interested to see how it looks in Normal colour profile with just a mist filter , would save a lot of faff !Also just off to Ali Express!
8:58 ... That's the camera going into position to fit into the stock case with a filter on.. it gives you a few seconds to get the case on before it goes limp. You dont need that multicase mess.

I am traveling in London, and my main video camera is the Pocket 2 and Pocket 1, both fit in my pocket together. I don't know what they do in there. Maybe one day I will find a little Pocket 3... I have loved the Pocket series since the first version. I agree - the balance of size and capabilities make them the most practical camera for traveling video.
Fiancé? Congratulations! Very cool this DJI Pocket 3. If DJI would just release a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (even if it was just an M4/3 mount), I'd be very interested - they are the most innovative camera company out there right now!
I think you're right about DR in the op3. D-log m in nice when the light is consistent, but when it changes it seems to under-expose in a weird way. I just uploaded a short of a mustang and it has problems adjusting exposure for the black interior. I'm gonna try it again today in normal mode and see if it does better. I also have a clip where it has an issue with a bright color. It looks good and then completely alters the color a few seconds later. Very strange.
I got my Pocket 3 a few days ago. I have a white dog, so I have to set the exposure to -1 EV so he doesn’t get blown out. The camera is also over sharpened, so I have to figure out how to turn that down. Besides that, it’s just about perfect for vlogging. I also shoot in standard color, it’s good enough, and a lot of times better. On my FX30, I mainly shoot in S-Cinetone for the same reason. It’s good enough. I held off buying the Pocket 3 for a while, because everybody that got a free one, said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I guess I would say the same thing to keep the freebies coming. After watching a bunch of reviews from people who actually bought one, I went ahead and got one for myself. My only complaint is that I wished it had a replaceable battery. That built in battery will eventually die for good.
There is a setting that allows you to bring down the sharpness. On the main screen (where you can see the camera image), swipe left and you should see various options color, glamour effects, etc. Find the one that says image adjustments. Click on it and then click on the custom button. You should then be taken to a screen that allows you to change the sharpness.
they already put a micro 4/3 sensor on the mavic 3. they will definitely put it on a DJI pocket in the future. it's going to be slightly bigger but still lighter than any camera setup.
All I "wanted" was the perfect camera! And it arrived and broke Kasey's channel! We will still be here for you during this time of great joy and sorrow! Until that Sony X4000 comes out!
My biggest concern are the small moving parts. Over time, if not used with kid gloves constantly, it seems like those little moving appendages are bound to fail. Other than that, seems like an awesome walkie-talkie kind of camera gadget
5:03 I think just like their camera drone, DJI will release the next iteration with 2 or more cameras that give you other focus length other than the boring super wide, like the one they have on Air 3. I personally think it would be better than a bigger sensor
The DJI Pocket 3 is responsible for my "don't be shy about filming in public" I love this device! The Sony ZV-1m2 will stay in the drawer or I'll use it as a second studio camera. By the way, thanks for your great and funny videos. Greetings from Prague, the heart of Europe!
aren't you supposed to recover shadows in post when filming in D-Log? whenever they are too dark, you need to like LIFT them? probably results in much more noise though

The perfect camera is that camera that you love to take with you everywhere. end of story. The gimmicky gooseneck on that thing really needs to be replaced with a image-stabilized ball-and-socket full lens adapter though. Follow.. follow would be a nice feature. Have a safe trip, we need you jay walking back here in slomo.
i have the 2, it's at least somewhat resistant. mine saw a lot of light rain and general vapour (pockets get humid while running) and it's as good as new 2 years later. jury is still out with the 3, as the screen rotation mechanism complicates it further. my 2 has the microsd slot taped shut with scotch tape, and the usb port plugged up by a piece of cork. if you end up buying this i suggest doing the same as these are the weakest points for water ingress/corrosion. what do you do with a camera once the usb port no longer works? it's as expensive to fix as any major problem is. this is not as consumer-friendly as a waterproof camera where it's taken care of for you, but i think it's worth it for excellent microphones alone, although the gopro 8 onwards have decent audio, i don't think it's as good as the pocket 2 or 3. the action 4 seems like a decent camera. i don't think any of these choices are too bad to be honest, you just have to decide what focal length is most useful for you. 16 mm equivalent action 4 with no usable digital zoom is so completely different from 20 mm equivalent pockets where you can zoom to 40 mm equivalent reasonably well enough. you still see a decrease of image quality compared to proper optical zoom but you only see this if pixel peeping. the equivalent apertures are also wildly different and please also note that the pocket 3 has autofocus with 20 cm closest focusing distance which combined with the digital zoom almost puts you into bona-fide macro territory. (not quite) the pocket 2 focuses to 10 centimetres. about the only step backwards between the 2 and 3

When your face isn't in the frame, the Pocket 3's auto exposure tried to bring the white sky down to neutral gray. That's why the underexposure. Many cameras would do something similar but maybe not that extreme. Try it again with a blue sky and good light.
I record orchestras. I’m thinking about getting this just to use for the conductor. I think it could be placed unintrusively right in front of the conductor and follow him/her. Opinions?
I noticed that the Pocket 3 has a minimum focus distance of about 8 inches (20 cm). Can you shoot some close up footage of squirrels or flowers to see what kind of Toneh can be acheived? I'd like to see that. Thank you.
*I Just ordered mine last night off of Amazon Canada. I got the Creator Combo. After researching the heck out of this camera for two and a half months, now I have finally pulled the trigger on it. I'm still rockin my OG OSMO Pocket as well. I will be doing a review of the OG OSMO Pocket versus the OSMO Pocket 3 latest release for my new UA-cam channel soon. Question: My OG OSMO Pocket was an 8 Bit Colour Space camera. Is the OSMO Pocket 3 only a 10 Bit camera if you use the D-Log, or HLG Settings, or does the Pocket # 3 shoot 10 Bit in the Regular settings mode as well ? @ **4:00**; If you "Lock" the exposure on your face, then when you pan away the exposure will not close down on you and be too dark. This would be the work around I would try out.*

It is a big deal that someone who has consistently been anti-Gimbal is now praising this new product and elected to only bring this one camera with him while traveling, (besides his smart phone). Battery life is good, because DJI made the risky investment of a 5 nm chip to do all the processing. They are way ahead of the competition and it is selling well. (RIP, IdolCam)

It‘s crazy to consider how much u hated the pocket 2, for what it is, only to fall in love with the version 3 a few years later 😅. Good stuff bro. Just a little inconsistent ❤. I‘d also buy that thing but I hate how fragile that rotating screen mechanism really is. The concept before had been if you need a bigger screen rig it up with your smartphone. That’s been a winner move. Nowadays it’s rotate it till it‘s broken 😢.
The Pocket 2 was terrible, it had huge crops in slow mo and it looked bad, Pocket 3 is in another league. Better colour science, AF, big flippy screen etc. They aren't even comparable.
@@cameraconspiraciesYeah, I give you that, Slow Motion with pseudo HD 120fps was pretty terrible. The same goes for the tracking ability of the Pocket 2. Imho 4K60 was more than acceptable, just a bit worse than 4K30. With the smaller sensor and more megapixels, you had to have more light to make it work. But the low light performance of the Pocket 2 beats GoPro Hero 11, 12, as well as the Action 4 - hands down. It was pretty much better than all Action Cams available at that time. The new Insta360 Ace seams to be better than the Pocket 2. Colour science of Pocket 3 is also improved, especially with the Normal profile. But it hasn't been bad compared to GoPro, Insta etc. With the Pocket 2 you had to shoot everything in D-Clinelike profile and apply a grade in order to make it work. A flaw of that profile on the Pocket 2 is that the shadows are to dark when using auto-exposure. AF seams also improved but I wouldn't say it's flawless on the Pocket 3. The focus hunting remains to be pretty awful. With the newest iteration it's faster and less jumpy. In my opinion the big flippy screen is also its biggest weakness. I'd love to hear the opinion of someone else in here...
i pretty much agree with all of that@@roman.keller i don't have the 3 yet, only the 2, but i think there's an option in the 3 to turn on and record with the buttons on the bottom, normal horizontal video but with the screen in vertical. i think i saw this in julian otto's video walkthrough of the menus.
@@markifi Thanks for the hint. After half a year, when there's more information available on how fragile the Pocket 3 really is, I will consider to get mine. I heard that the case of the Pocket 3 hitting the screen will cause it to fail. Therefore, it's not only because of the attached ND/Myst Filters clever to use the Pocket without that case. I'm in no rush, so I do like to wait and see how things develop. Nevertheless, I really like the big improvements in dynamic range, low light ability and the great concept of having a small and powerful gimbal. Greetings Roman.
All the pro's and cons of cameras he talks about, and why he likes this one so much, including over his other cameras. Is the criteria he's looking for, for the "perfect camera" in regards to a vlogging camera? Would everything he recommends/discourages still apply to other types of video work? Short film making, Instagram reels, Product Video, Wedding Video, etc.
as far as i can tell the requirements are: - flippy screen - excellent stabilisation for handheld shots - microcontrast - light weight - good colours - predictable white balance - dependable autofocus - no focus hunting - good audio recording from a cabled external microphone - custom modes, easily accessible - easy switch between high and low framerates - some bokeh - some low light ability - no flickery light metering - digital sharpening that can be toned down in the menu it doesn't translate to film making at all. he hates the convoluted controls of 'cine' cameras for example
I’m surprised you say that it is not very good in low light because all the other reviewers say it’s great in low light and that was the main reason I was considering getting it.
It is difficult to find a major flaw with this little gem. Maybe exposure without a face in frame but then it was trying to reconcile snow and dark trees… not the easiest of scenarios.

This could be a fun toy to put on a boom pole and use with auto tracking framing etc, but what made me say No was DJI's disinterest to make this thing a capable 360 camera shooting complete highres HDR spheres.. as goes for their other gimbals and drones; opportunity missed, money will go elsewhere. And yes, no z-axis innovation yet either..., continue!
A neat trick for vlogging with this camera is to point it at the scene you are talking about, or about to talk about, then hold down the joystick to engage full lock, then walk around the locked gimbal as if it was on a tripod, and it looks like you are walking into the picture. Kind of the opposite of spinning the gimbal round into selfie mode. But you have to walk into the picture anti-clockwise, and out of it again clockwise. Nobody else seems to do that trick. Maybe there's a reason for that... oh well.
You mentioned plugging in your mic. I was wondering if that's by choice or is it because you're not using the DJI mic 2 from the creator combo? I bought the creator combo and the DJI mic audio is just ok, I have the DJI mic one and know the best audio is when you record into the mic's internal storage but that's a pain because you have to sync the audio later when editing. Want to know if hard wiring the mic will make the DJI mic 2 audio better while keeping the audio/video synced without having to record directly to the mic. Also just wanted to let you know that you're videos have been super helpful!
Love my DJI Pocket 3, BUT that Gimbal can drive me crazy sometimes. Maybe I just need more practice with it? And three settings, how do I know which one is better for each video???

I notice when I edit video's that you gotta watch the footage so much and check audio levels quality, Its good to see even one of the best UA-camrs mess up like me @10:27 Audio humming I learnt to not charge my phone when I was doing voice overs on the video. My 2 cents

Just made my first vlog using the pocket 3 and erm i did have a vndxmist filter on from Freewell, purchased by myself ! It is a great camera so far i am also loving its ease of use , small , light and compact to take with you anywhere, well except underwater i guess. I do find trying to judge exposure tricky with the small screen, no histogram, and tiny variable nds ! So i am interested to see how it looks in Normal colour profile with just a mist filter , would save a lot of faff !Also just off to Ali Express!

8:58 ... That's the camera going into position to fit into the stock case with a filter on.. it gives you a few seconds to get the case on before it goes limp. You dont need that multicase mess.

I am traveling in London, and my main video camera is the Pocket 2 and Pocket 1, both fit in my pocket together. I don't know what they do in there. Maybe one day I will find a little Pocket 3...
I have loved the Pocket series since the first version. I agree - the balance of size and capabilities make them the most practical camera for traveling video.

I think you're right about DR in the op3. D-log m in nice when the light is consistent, but when it changes it seems to under-expose in a weird way.
I just uploaded a short of a mustang and it has problems adjusting exposure for the black interior. I'm gonna try it again today in normal mode and see if it does better.
I also have a clip where it has an issue with a bright color. It looks good and then completely alters the color a few seconds later. Very strange.
I got my Pocket 3 a few days ago. I have a white dog, so I have to set the exposure to -1 EV so he doesn’t get blown out. The camera is also over sharpened, so I have to figure out how to turn that down. Besides that, it’s just about perfect for vlogging. I also shoot in standard color, it’s good enough, and a lot of times better. On my FX30, I mainly shoot in S-Cinetone for the same reason. It’s good enough. I held off buying the Pocket 3 for a while, because everybody that got a free one, said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I guess I would say the same thing to keep the freebies coming. After watching a bunch of reviews from people who actually bought one, I went ahead and got one for myself. My only complaint is that I wished it had a replaceable battery. That built in battery will eventually die for good.
There is a setting that allows you to bring down the sharpness. On the main screen (where you can see the camera image), swipe left and you should see various options color, glamour effects, etc. Find the one that says image adjustments. Click on it and then click on the custom button. You should then be taken to a screen that allows you to change the sharpness.

My biggest concern are the small moving parts. Over time, if not used with kid gloves constantly, it seems like those little moving appendages are bound to fail. Other than that, seems like an awesome walkie-talkie kind of camera gadget

5:03 I think just like their camera drone, DJI will release the next iteration with 2 or more cameras that give you other focus length other than the boring super wide, like the one they have on Air 3. I personally think it would be better than a bigger sensor

aren't you supposed to recover shadows in post when filming in D-Log? whenever they are too dark, you need to like LIFT them? probably results in much more noise though
It's a noisy mess, and you'd have to do that every time the exposure changed.

The gimmicky gooseneck on that thing really needs to be replaced with a image-stabilized ball-and-socket full lens adapter though. Follow.. follow would be a nice feature. i have the 2, it's at least somewhat resistant. mine saw a lot of light rain and general vapour (pockets get humid while running) and it's as good as new 2 years later. jury is still out with the 3, as the screen rotation mechanism complicates it further. my 2 has the microsd slot taped shut with scotch tape, and the usb port plugged up by a piece of cork. if you end up buying this i suggest doing the same as these are the weakest points for water ingress/corrosion. what do you do with a camera once the usb port no longer works? it's as expensive to fix as any major problem is. this is not as consumer-friendly as a waterproof camera where it's taken care of for you, but i think it's worth it for excellent microphones alone, although the gopro 8 onwards have decent audio, i don't think it's as good as the pocket 2 or 3. the action 4 seems like a decent camera. i don't think any of these choices are too bad to be honest, you just have to decide what focal length is most useful for you. 16 mm equivalent action 4 with no usable digital zoom is so completely different from 20 mm equivalent pockets where you can zoom to 40 mm equivalent reasonably well enough. you still see a decrease of image quality compared to proper optical zoom but you only see this if pixel peeping. the equivalent apertures are also wildly different and please also note that the pocket 3 has autofocus with 20 cm closest focusing distance which combined with the digital zoom almost puts you into bona-fide macro territory. (not quite) the pocket 2 focuses to 10 centimetres. about the only step backwards between the 2 and 3

When your face isn't in the frame, the Pocket 3's auto exposure tried to bring the white sky down to neutral gray. That's why the underexposure. Many cameras would do something similar but maybe not that extreme. Try it again with a blue sky and good light.

It would move with his every movement and be distracting. You could use it, just don't track him actively.
In another review it was stated that there can be overheating issues with long shots. Worth looking into.

*I Just ordered mine last night off of Amazon Canada. I got the Creator Combo. After researching the heck out of this camera for two and a half months, now I have finally pulled the trigger on it. I'm still rockin my OG OSMO Pocket as well. I will be doing a review of the OG OSMO Pocket versus the OSMO Pocket 3 latest release for my new UA-cam channel soon. Question: My OG OSMO Pocket was an 8 Bit Colour Space camera. Is the OSMO Pocket 3 only a 10 Bit camera if you use the D-Log, or HLG Settings, or does the Pocket # 3 shoot 10 Bit in the Regular settings mode as well ? @ **4:00**; If you "Lock" the exposure on your face, then when you pan away the exposure will not close down on you and be too dark. This would be the work around I would try out.*
10 bit in all colour modes.

It is a big deal that someone who has consistently been anti-Gimbal is now praising this new product and elected to only bring this one camera with him while traveling, (besides his smart phone). Battery life is good, because DJI made the risky investment of a 5 nm chip to do all the processing. They are way ahead of the competition and it is selling well. (RIP, IdolCam)

It‘s crazy to consider how much u hated the pocket 2, for what it is, only to fall in love with the version 3 a few years later 😅. Good stuff bro. Just a little inconsistent ❤. I‘d also buy that thing but I hate how fragile that rotating screen mechanism really is. The concept before had been if you need a bigger screen rig it up with your smartphone. That’s been a winner move. Nowadays it’s rotate it till it‘s broken 😢.
The Pocket 2 was terrible, it had huge crops in slow mo and it looked bad, Pocket 3 is in another league. Better colour science, AF, big flippy screen etc. They aren't even comparable.
@@cameraconspiraciesYeah, I give you that, Slow Motion with pseudo HD 120fps was pretty terrible. The same goes for the tracking ability of the Pocket 2. Imho 4K60 was more than acceptable, just a bit worse than 4K30. With the smaller sensor and more megapixels, you had to have more light to make it work. But the low light performance of the Pocket 2 beats GoPro Hero 11, 12, as well as the Action 4 - hands down. It was pretty much better than all Action Cams available at that time. The new Insta360 Ace seams to be better than the Pocket 2. Colour science of Pocket 3 is also improved, especially with the Normal profile. But it hasn't been bad compared to GoPro, Insta etc. With the Pocket 2 you had to shoot everything in D-Clinelike profile and apply a grade in order to make it work. A flaw of that profile on the Pocket 2 is that the shadows are to dark when using auto-exposure. AF seams also improved but I wouldn't say it's flawless on the Pocket 3. The focus hunting remains to be pretty awful. With the newest iteration it's faster and less jumpy. In my opinion the big flippy screen is also its biggest weakness. I'd love to hear the opinion of someone else in here...
i pretty much agree with all of that@@roman.keller i don't have the 3 yet, only the 2, but i think there's an option in the 3 to turn on and record with the buttons on the bottom, normal horizontal video but with the screen in vertical. i think i saw this in julian otto's video walkthrough of the menus.
@@markifi Thanks for the hint. After half a year, when there's more information available on how fragile the Pocket 3 really is, I will consider to get mine. I heard that the case of the Pocket 3 hitting the screen will cause it to fail. Therefore, it's not only because of the attached ND/Myst Filters clever to use the Pocket without that case. I'm in no rush, so I do like to wait and see how things develop. Nevertheless, I really like the big improvements in dynamic range, low light ability and the great concept of having a small and powerful gimbal. Greetings Roman.

All the pro's and cons of cameras he talks about, and why he likes this one so much, including over his other cameras. Is the criteria he's looking for, for the "perfect camera" in regards to a vlogging camera? Would everything he recommends/discourages still apply to other types of video work? Short film making, Instagram reels, Product Video, Wedding Video, etc.
as far as i can tell the requirements are:
- flippy screen
- excellent stabilisation for handheld shots
- microcontrast
- light weight
- good colours
- predictable white balance
- dependable autofocus
- no focus hunting
- good audio recording from a cabled external microphone
- custom modes, easily accessible
- easy switch between high and low framerates
- some bokeh
- some low light ability
- no flickery light metering
- digital sharpening that can be toned down in the menu
it doesn't translate to film making at all. he hates the convoluted controls of 'cine' cameras for example
I’m surprised you say that it is not very good in low light because all the other reviewers say it’s great in low light and that was the main reason I was considering getting it.
It is difficult to find a major flaw with this little gem. Maybe exposure without a face in frame but then it was trying to reconcile snow and dark trees… not the easiest of scenarios.

This could be a fun toy to put on a boom pole and use with auto tracking framing etc, but what made me say No was DJI's disinterest to make this thing a capable 360 camera shooting complete highres HDR spheres.. as goes for their other gimbals and drones; opportunity missed, money will go elsewhere. And yes, no z-axis innovation yet either..., continue!
A neat trick for vlogging with this camera is to point it at the scene you are talking about, or about to talk about, then hold down the joystick to engage full lock, then walk around the locked gimbal as if it was on a tripod, and it looks like you are walking into the picture. Kind of the opposite of spinning the gimbal round into selfie mode. But you have to walk into the picture anti-clockwise, and out of it again clockwise. Nobody else seems to do that trick. Maybe there's a reason for that... oh well.

You mentioned plugging in your mic. I was wondering if that's by choice or is it because you're not using the DJI mic 2 from the creator combo? I bought the creator combo and the DJI mic audio is just ok, I have the DJI mic one and know the best audio is when you record into the mic's internal storage but that's a pain because you have to sync the audio later when editing. Want to know if hard wiring the mic will make the DJI mic 2 audio better while keeping the audio/video synced without having to record directly to the mic. Also just wanted to let you know that you're videos have been super helpful!
I don't use bluetooth radiation devices.
It might be getting tricked by the snow resulting in the darker exposure ?

Love my DJI Pocket 3, BUT that Gimbal can drive me crazy sometimes. Maybe I just need more practice with it? And three settings, how do I know which one is better for each video???
Putting the gimbal on fast speed with follow mode gives the best results in terms of control. Then just a little practice with the joystick
