  • The Andy Griffith Show (Mayberry) was filmed in the 1960's on a 40 acre set and so were quite a few other films and TV shows dating back as far as the 1930's including "Gone with the Wind".
Cut together here are just a couple other popular TV shows that used the set.

There is several great shots of the entire 40 acres backlot available online, its ashame the whole lot was plowed under. If they kept just the mayberry section of the backlot, it would be considered a sacred shrine!!

I worked on television for several years. You would be surprised how many times they use the same sets over and over for different shows. It's just matter of redecorating and changing angles. For example, on one show I worked on a set and it was supposed to be a meat packing plant. And on another show the same set became a prison just by moving some walls and adding bars.

B McSue My sentiments exactly.👌🏽 I watch this show everyday on TV Land and Netflix. It never gets old and it honestly makes me wish I could've lived during such a time when everyone respected one another. They still had their problems, of course, but it just seems like it was a simpler (and happier) way of life.

All DesiLu stuff. That's how they could use the same sets, same props, and so on. Dragnet, Adam 12, and Emergency have their Mark VII ties - they use the same actors again and again, for different roles. Quinn Martin Productions like "The Streets Of San Francisco" used the same Guest Stars over and over again, but for different roles. I'm a part-time actor, and during my gigs I learned that if the Directors, Casting Directors, A.D.'s, and other film personnel like you, they'll ask you to come back. It all ties back to making money and saving money (and time.)

Good catch on noting the different times this set was utilized. Reminds me of an old (SCTV?) show. As I recall, Ron Howard was a guest and Eugene Levy was Floyd the Barber. Ron, as an adult had come back to Mayberry for a visit. While sitting in Floyd's shop, Ron and Eugene reminisced about the Mayberry of old. During their conversation and visible from inside the shop all kinds of crime and mayhem was rampant outdoors. The whole situation was hilarious.

Im a big fan of Andy Griffith, but I was wondering if they were about to condemn the whole set of Mayberry and thats why it looked so dirty and dilapidated or it was made to appear that way for S.T. I'll definitely go check those other episodes out though. Thankyou.

B Mcsue..yes, some morals,I know people will say that every generation says "kids today" & what have you, but no..this is real, there is a problem today, television, pop culture, internet, video games, rock n roll is mainly dead as well as sports like boxing, wrestling, and others, that might have had not an excellent reputation, but with today's standards, I miss having them around in the mainstream, and music has even far worse examples today & we wouldn't have thought that possible, but to me the worst, is our local news people are all so young & immature & inexperienced, & national news is so biased & corrupt, leaning to liberal & democrats, & the two sides only agenda is vs each other, & to use the airwaves to control popular opinion, rather than to inform & comfort the population...its all such a disgrace..they do little & nothing for the public..& the country at one time belonged to white people & black people, & we didn't always get along the best, but we managed, & it was our country, now its any & all races & religions, & any & all sexual orientations, gay marriage & we all must adjust our daily lives to accommodate persons who are supposedly one gender now & by this after noon they're something else..how can you keep up to accommodate that? Target stores call police on you if youcomplain that a man dressed as a woman insists on using the restroom with your child, not call the police on the person using the restroom with your child, but on you for saying something about it...gay marriage, transgender, all you gotta do is, believe you're a woman when in fact you're a man,& for those who do the surgery, they are advised the surgery does not in reality change their gender, it is strictly for"entertainment" &/or explorative type purposes etc., is strictly a cosmetic procedure, & cannot in fact alter your gender or genetic make up in anyway(basically, its only for perverse role playetc),I'm sickened to wake up in this world, I'm glad I live tucked away in small communities, its an abomination to god, & people are going to be judged one way or another..
