@@TyrannosaurusSex you missed the point of my comment. I was a child in the 60's and maybe early 70's when this show was in production. Watching this show takes me back to what was a better time in the life of a child who lived through that time period. Politics and war or threat of war was not a concern for us. Its nostalgic for us. The spoiled rotten kid with his new bicycle; the time that the ‘guys’ lived alone, while Aunt Bee was away; the female prisoners up in that cabin and Floyd and Barney are their prisoners; the ‘Mr. Scrooge’ old store owner, who keeps trying to be arrested in order to have CHX with the other; when Aunt Bee arrives to take care of Opie (and Andy) and he wants the his newly married sitter to stay; when Opie sneaks in to the elderly ladies potting shed, for extra special flowers - - near the still; and so many others.

@Russell Collier : 😢 it’s very sad that some had rotten families. Shirley Temple’s parents spent all that money that she made, didn’t even put some away for when she became an adult. Patty Duke’s mother signed her over - - to that couple who worked her half to death and took a large fee, from what she earned. I’ve read the book, where she talks about that couple and that she had wanted to keep her real fist name - - Anna.

That is except for a married Andy sneaking off to a hotel on occasion with Aneta, the woman who was, according to Daniel de Vice in his book Andy and Don, the love of his life. There was a lot more that wasn't Mayberry- wholesome as well, such as the fact that Andy and Don drank quite a bit. We're dealing with fantasy here, but it was good fantasy.

@leo, I’m sure some of that may even be true. Being human means being flawed. The themes back then strived to put forward a positive message, a message of hope. Today, we can’t even define the difference between a man and women. The norm is to call good, bad and bad we accept as good.
No, I will take those days any day of the week. At least they tried. We’ve given up.

Really too bad that the 40-acres Backlot in Culver City where they filmed TAGS, Hogans Heroes, and many other of the sitcoms of the day was not preserved as a driving tour for posterity. How amazing it would be to be able to drive in front of Andy's home or the Courthouse today - that alone would be worth the price of admission!
