- Red Bull may have been forced to reduce their engine performance substantially during the Miami Grand Prix, to protect the power unit and brakes from a fundamental cooling problem with the RB20. However, Max Verstappen's car will feature major upgrades in Imola, as the team intends to fire back at Ferrari's SF-24 EVO upgrade package which was on show at Fiorano today.

I thought it was going to be a snoozer. So far it has been very good compared to 2022 and 2023. 2023 was sort of light on meaningful action.
@@stevenshizzle The start of 2022 was legendary and then it was literally "how many times can max win" and at the same time "how many times can charles DNF". 2023 was boring throughout, probably one of the worst seasons of recent years. But so far 2024 is looking good, can't wait to see how it goes from here

@@Lubsana86I’ve personally not enjoyed this season so far all too much. It’s recency bias, because there’s been 2 winners other than Max everyone thinks it’s a great season. In my opinion F1 is in a worse position for racing than it was when Lewis was dominating. Reliability would still strike the big teams unlike now, the cars are so close in qualifying but can never seem to get many overtakes in the races. Hopefully 2026 spices things up
I was all optimistic, but Max's 2023 fastest lap time was 1:29.708 and Oscars was 1:30.634 that is 0.926 seconds slower. Red Bull have not lost nearly a second in lap time. We have been tricked into getting excited.

Didn't Red Bull say that they'd be suffering the first few races in the hot deserts and tracks until they hit to Japan where it'd be cooler? To me it seems like they knew cooling limiting factors would be an issue before the season started.

What a fatal flaw, running PU turned down being in a position to win the race before SC and being only 0.1s of the pace with floor damage, must be terrible being a RB driver. Guess its going to take a race or maybe 2 for them to fix that cooling before dominating by 0.5s a lap again.

Would've won anyway had it not been for the SC so we wouldn't be discussing this, but there's deffo been rumours about brake issues for a while now due to 1 of the suppliers

the change in ducts was totally needed, people need to remember that splitting air instead of letting it flow past adds drag switching vents and floor strakes to redirect without spliting or lessening flow is why redbull are dominant, ease it round everwhere and make stuff down stream follow that as well, drag coef starts to really add up otherwise without seeing the issues in the modelling and cfd simulations.. gently redirect and not split.

How the turns have tabled.
Last year Ferrari said there is no reason we could not win the last 7 races. Max went on to win 6 out of those 7.
If max doesn’t win the next 4 out of 5 or 5 of 5 I will be surprised.
I think you site is overall very good, I have some thoughts maybe others would like to agree or suggest other ideas.
1 the are ten teams and they all deserve attention, and recognition. 2 how about having two segments to your articles A. For actual facts. B. For gossip and speculation. I think respect for your sight would grow even more.your presentation is clear, clean and understandable for all ages, good attention to detail
The problem with Red Bull in Miami is that their result wasn't from turning the car down or being unlucky with the Safety Car. I mean, yes, both of those things helped Lando win (assuming the reports of them tuning down the cars are correct). But the real problem is that Max never felt fully comfortable with the car all weekend, and they were unable to dial it in by the start of the race on Sunday. Some of that has to do with the fact that this was a Sprint Race weekend, but all teams were at the same disadvantage, and arguably McLaren even more so, given that Lando was taken out of the sprint on lap 1. So this faltering on the setup is a significant issue regardless of what other factors played into McLaren winning the race.
I think the RB20 is a very good car, but I don't think it's vastly ahead of the pack like the RB19 was, and there appears to possibly be some reliability issues related to the packaging. How long before we see Red Bull backtrack on some of the initial design elements in order to resolve that? I'm not sure.
To be clear: the car doesn't "have more pace" if they can't reliably run an entire race operating at that particular level. If that level is unsustainable, then it's not the real pace of the car. The suggestion that Red Bull has more pace because they tuned the cars down is absurd.
The Miami issue came down to tyres. The Redbull did particularly badly on the hard compound, and the hard compound suited the McLaren very well.
@@joelogjam9163 Which was exactly my point. Red Bull couldn't keep up that pace given the tire wear. Tire wear is a result of either not getting the setup right, or having a bad car concept.

redbull underfloor volume, airflow is the main reason they are faster, the way their floor partially stalls at different amounts is something i think they are doing, the airflow etc you could have 40hp more than anther team and struggle to pull away from them if your airflow and handling are not up to it.

Funny after the Australian race I was telling people there is a fault in the RB brakeing system and it's gonna be exploited in slow speed corners and we saw it again. Really a proud moment to diagnose a problem with no data a month ago.

Red Bulls engine issues could be Conrod related if they are having to reduce boost. Unfortunately (as far as I know) the freeze on engine design means they are not allowed to make improvements until the end of the season…
They could still make changes for reliability reasons under the freeze
They've been allowed to make updates since the engine freeze began. All they need to do is demonstrate how it improves reliability, and it's legal. All the teams are doing this all the time to optimise performance. It's just that they aren't huge gains.

when all you do is win, you forget what it's like to lose. Losing helps you improve.
With that said, teams are closing in on RB, and I'm all for seeing Max under pressure and not riding off into the sunset, like Max and lewis are all too familiar with.

Cooling hypothesis makes some sense, at least explaining why Max's performance tanked after the SC. Spending several laps at reduced pace and in the dirty air of another car would definitely exacerbate temperature issues. I don't really buy the idea that bollard did any significant floor damage.
Watch again, he landed ON THE BROKE PART of the bollard still sticking out of the ground, he had big floor damage cos of that. And they had less grip on the hard tyres. That’s why he didn’t have enough grip and slower laptimes

3.5 tenths over a lap would be shown by the data, and it is not. Max was as fast in the high speed corners and same in the top speed vs Ferrari, while being faster in the slow speed.
On the other hand, there was data on maxs car that he was slower at the top end of the straights which could be due to clipping or maybe this issue

Yeah a horrible weekend for RB and Max,, Sprint pole,, sprint win,, race pole and p2 in the race they probably win if not for a safety car and some floor damage,, Max still scored more points than anyone over the weekend.. This years RB doesn’t seem like it sets up as well as last year.. or they don’t got a good read on it yet.. Max complained all weekend long.. Still in China Max pulled a 13 second gap on p2 in the sprint after taking the lead on lap 9 of a 20 lap race…

I really hope Ferrari find a way to integrate the HP logo and colors with the Ferrari look. If it's not sexy then it's not a Ferrari. I guess nobody cares as long as there's enough money to win. Actually, it's probably more like nobody cares as long as there's enough money, period. Still, Ferrari have classically been very protective of the look of their cars. Though I guess HP are getting more out of the deal then if their logo colors blended well with Ferrari. Anyone that looks at that car for a microsecond will notice that HP logo because it's so much of an eyesore.

SMH you can set your engine on a high mode for whole weekend you can turn your engine down not up. Come on. SMH “party mode “ means more power or turning the engine up on max. Turning down the engine for reliability issues is totally permitted

@@s.l.h.9884 before Parc Ferme they must choose an engine mode for the entire session quail and race. they allowed to do that. Let’s say they choose engine Mapping 2 for whole weekend and Map 2 is where you get the best power and performance without causing reliability issues they’re allowed to turn it down and up. Now let say they after Parc ferme they want more power and performance they are not allowed to do that. Caused the FIA have software data on everyone engines (Mapping etc) so if during the race they uses a higher Engine mapping they will be disqualified from the race. Now you can break parc ferme and start from pit lane before the race.
If the patterns follows the way Mercedes completely lost its dominance (jow other teams started to catch up and won) then RBR dominance would end by 2026.
I don't think McLaren will win another race this season. Mayländer can not hold the field back on every ocasion, can he?
