    This was very helpful and to the point! Exactly what I needed to know. I need a small amount for now, to cover up a screen door with snaps. The small roll will do perfectly. Great to know this exists for when I build my screen room. I will be ordering soon. Thank you for this video, and many thanks for NO MUSIC during the video!!

    Strataglass brand vinyl has had some flaws occasionally in periodic sheet goods. If you order Strataglass from Sailrite it will not be flawed, since Sailrite checks each sheet before we bag it and ship it. Any flaws are rejected and not sent to our customers. However, if you order a drum (5 sheets or more at a lower price) we do not open and check those sheets in the drum.

  • @SailriteDIY
    @SailriteDIY  11 років тому +2

    The rebuttal from altops is a good one. I do wish that the Strataglass Company would check the quality of the glass before they ship it to Sailrite, but since they don't Sailrite does (unless it is shipped in a full drum).

    No, we do not sell Makrolon it is very hard to sew and requires a very heavy duty sewing machine. If you do attempt to sew Makrolon (we do not) use Teflon thread for the top and V-92 Polyester thread for the bottom and use a diamond point needle #19 size.

    Would you recommend softtouch fabric and the lightweight plastic twist fasteners to make bimini glass covers to protect glass while at dock? Also what would you recommend for a binding, or do I even need binding?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, Softtouch would work great to protect the clear vinyl windows. I do not care much for the plastic twist lock fasteners, I would rather use the standard twist lock: www.sailrite.com/Common-Sense-Fastener-Cloth-to-Cloth-Complete-2-Button-Base or snaps. I'm looking for a clear vinyl that I can put over a rear window graphic on my pick up that will protect the image plus when it rains or it gets wet water won't stay on the graphic and makes it very hard to see out my rear window, that why I want to apply a clear vinyl over the image so water will repel off . any thoughts as to how thick I should go? And what I should use ?

    Does the thicker vinyl (like 60 gauge) provide any sound proofing/reduction?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  6 років тому

      It is not rated for sound proofing, but the thicker may block a little more than say a 40 gauge.

    Looking to create a rain cover yet allow the sunlight to come through and have visibility for a deck enclosure. Can you use the Strata material for the top panels (roof portion) of a screen enclosure? If so, will it get opaque with time?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  6 років тому

      Yes, you can use Stataglass as a roof portion of an enclosure. It is one of the best UV protected clear vinyl window materials on the market, so it should last for many years without damage or turning opaque.

    Bought two rolls of Plastipane
    The last 18 inches of both rolls we're junk do to the cardboard roll and tape made an imprint on the the surface. Would not have been so bad if I didn't cut a panel out of that end with out noticing it till to late.

    • @ericgrant3743
      @ericgrant3743 7 років тому

      If you are referring to the Plastipane 30 gauge it is sold as a 54" wide x 170" long roll. However if you actually measure the roll it will be 180" plus in length. We know that the last 10" or so will be deformed by the cardboard tube, so we send extra to make up for that fact. This is not the case with the higher quality clear vinyl products like Strataglass, O'Sea, Crystal Clear, Regalite and Kal-Glass. Those higher quality clear vinyls are sheet goods rather than a roll good, like the Plastipane.
      Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks, Eric Sailrite

    What gauge would you recommend for a Bimini window? Your explanation left me puzzled because usually the higher the number, the thinner the material and vice versa. Thank you.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  9 років тому +1

      +Breal191 For a bimini window we recommend using 30 gauge clear vinyl. Clear window material is thicker with larger numbers and thinner as the number goes down.

      Breal191 The higher the number for the clear vinyl window material the thicker the glass. For a Bimini we use a 30 gauge, but some customers like a heavier clear vinyl like 40 gauge. Let me know if you have more questions.

    Question: WRT to ALL clear plastic vinyl products, is the gauge # ALWAYS the same as their thickness in mils? Meaning a 3 mil garbage bag would be also be referred to as 3 gauge by you guys?
    Comment: Meaning, to you all, GAUGE SIZE has nada to do with its 100% normative industry & engineering usage as a specification (aka ASME standards & codes) wrt to wire & sheet thicknesses and/or shot size, which are 100% fixed to very specific mil sizes AND where SMALLER numbers ALWAYS denote LARGER sizes/thicknesses??????
    Do you all not get how BS'ly misleading & f-ing confusing that is????????
    (said the Mechanical Engineer, who clearly knows this carp way better than you all!)

    • @SailriteDIY

      Greg Kibitz A 30 gauge will be measured out with calipers at about 0.03 inches.
