    I bought an Ultrafeed Premium from you Dec 2023, still in the box yet until I get it's new home ready. I make Bags, Wallets, Keyfobs, Luggage Tags,etc. I've been pondering how to install a clear vinyl "ID Window" in my products. Well, this video has certainly provided a great, nice looking professional option to consider!!! ... If you've not made a video of how to install "ID Windows" in products yet, please use this idea and create one!!! ... Thank you, have a beautiful day💛

    Excellent and extremely helpful video. I am toying with the idea of putting a window in a tent enclosure. Your video was so well done that it provided many 'tips' I never would have thought of ...how to effectively use the double-sided tape, sew window before cutting out material, etc. SO many helpful details carefully captured in your video. Again, well done. & thanks!

    Brilliant. I'm midway through making a new sprayhood so I'm so glad I found that video. I just hope my Singer machine can deal with the window job.

    Wonderful videos! I used this yesterday to make a "test window" using a square piece of plastic table cloth sewn into an old piece of nylon material I had. The instruction was perfect and the window came out really nice. The seam stick (I only had double sided tape for scrap booking) works wonders. That really is the trick to make the whole process easy. Thanks so much for the uploads. Very helpful! Hopefully I can order from you over here in Europe. Thanks again!

    Thanks for all the great videos you provide. Can't wait to try this myself. For this one I would suggest making the slit in the fabric near the middle of the long straight edge. This way the remaining fabric will be larger for another potential smaller size project.

    These videos and instructions are fabulous. I plan on using these to add a window into a bimini for our sailboat. Several years ago we bought a bimini kit (with the stainless framework and also the bimini fabric cover) from Sailrite and their instructions and attention to detail were just what we needed. The bimini turned out wonderfully and we get lots of compliments on it. Thanks Sailrite -- keep up the good work!

    I tried something that worked well. I used a vinyl backing instead of bias tape. The double sided tape went down the middle and the stitches were on each side along the backing. This was much better because when my machine goes over the sticky tape it gets gummed up.
    I would have appreciated some tips on how to cut out the fabric without damaging the window underneath.

    I have a large piece of canvas (nylon?) that needs it's plastic window replaced. The original window is probably heat bonded to the fabric. The plastic is torn in a few places and needs to be replaced. So., my plan is to use the instructions in this video (have already ordered supplies from Silrite). I will leave the old plastic window in place to help keep the shape right. My question is how should I go about sizing the window? Cut the old one out when I get to that step? Try to peel the old clear plastic off? Just sew through all of it? I have an industrial sewing machine that I use for leather so I'm now worried about that.
    Advice? AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS. Very professional, useful and applicable.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  Рік тому

      When replacing clear vinyl we do as you state..."leave the old plastic in place to keep the shape". We sew a new clear vinyl window over the top of the old then cut away the old after the new is sewn in place. If possible sometimes we sew slightly outside the old clear vinyl, so we can cut away all the old. However, sometimes we don't have a choice and have to sew through all the old assembly and have to leave the part sewn down and cut away the rest. I hope this helps, if not email me: ericg@sailrite.com

  • @Terje338
    @Terje338 5 років тому

    When you sew on bias binding on the inside of the canvas, what do you do if you will change out the window later? From what I have learn on a different Sailrite video that canging out the window, you sew on a new window over the old one and then cut out the old window. But if you install binding on the inside, you then will get a binding layer between the old and the new window edge.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  5 років тому +2

      Well you have three options:
      1. Make the new window a little bigger, so the old window can be cut out along with the binding.
      2. Sew the new window in along with the old binding in place. This will make for a very thick perimeter, so you may not want to pick this option.
      3. Cut out the old window and use plenty of double-sided tape (Seamstick for Canvas #129) to baste the new window in the open hole. You will have to work hard to get the canvas to lay without wrinkles before sewing.

      Well, for this project we were using a PTFE thread called Tenara and a size #18 needle. PTFE thread is a lifetime thread, most canvas jobs are sewn with a V-92 Polyester Thread and a size #20 needle.

    • @SailriteDIY

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  7 років тому +1

      If you use a basting tape (Seamstick for Canvas) in between the vinyl and fabric it will help prevent the leaking of water through the needle holes. If you have sewn through the double sided tape it will expand slightly filling the neeedle holes and it helps prevent leakage. However a seam sealer can also be used if you like like this: www.sailrite.com/Iosso-Seam-Sealer-4oz
