The didact is a phenomenal antagonist. The failing of halo 4 however was that you didn't learn his backstory enough in game, his struggles and why he became twisted. After reading the forerunner trilogy halo 4 having the didact is so much more impactful than if you just played the game. That's wheres there's a disconnect in the story telling.
I think the Reclaimer Saga should have had more of him instead of killing him it should have been a struggle against a unstopable enemy which you fight to save earth
Theres was some, very sparse, in game references to the didact all through halo tho. If you played some of the music backwards, the halo 3 terminals, sparks dialogue in CE when you confront Cortana in the control room, to name a few
Wrong. Making up all this supposed "backstory" for the Forerunners in the first place is a testament of how little 343 understands Halo. The Forerunners are supposed to be Ancient Humanity. And don't come with the "bUt BUnGiE diD iT FiRsT" bullshit that's just wrong if you invastigate who actually did it and why.

You can have all the headcanon you want but that doesnt mean Forerunners are going to be retconned into humans. Especially because thats a far worse story thread than them being a different race.
Really wish they kept the Didact as the main villain for the new trilogy. Would have made more sense and been a lot more threatening. The last forerunner, the pinnacle of evolution thought lost to the Flood, The Rings, and the time that washed the galaxy anew. And he absolutely *HATES US!*

The Harbinger is said to “honour the will of Atriox” I highly doubt one of the most powerful beings in the universe would want to serve the leader of a glorified Covenant splinter faction.
They should have provided more setup to the Didact Fair if you if read the background material, but the game doesn't show how he was twisted into he is Keith Szarabajka gave an excellent performace
343 really did The Didact dirty. They had an amazing villain that they could have done anything with, but instead they turned him into a Saturday morning cartoon villain and threw him away after one game.
They can't consistently tell a story through multiple games like how Bungie did and it's so infuriating. I liked the original Bungie lore, but Halo 4 and 343's new lore could've worked. It had such great potential. It COULD've been as great as the og, but here we are. Man I just wanna be intrigued by this franchise once more, but I don't see it ever happening again. It's just so disheartening and depressing everytime me and the boys think about it.
To be fair, they had plans for him in H5, but after all the backlash of fans crying "We don't like The Didact" they threw him out, but there's also the rumor H5 had a massive rewrite near the end of it's OG plan. But regardless you can thank a lot of the fans for what 343 did to Didact. Not all the fans, but a lot.

The didact could have been a lot better, it's a shame he and the prometheans are largely forgettable, theme included. There was a right way to do the prometheans where they would have been very good antagonists. I don't think the ideas themselves were the problem, it was the way 343 did them.
