I have a rare brain condition that caused me to be born totally blind and on the autism spectrum, and I also have complex PTSD. I find that my weighted blanket helps me with so many things. Sleep, intense emotions, CPTSD flashbacks, and even just a cozy place to chill if I can’t get deep pressure hugs from anyone else. It’s one of the best tools I could ever have in my toolbox for regulation.

Bless you that sounds really tough going for you 🥹 I was born with Spina Bifida and a badly tethered spinal cord, which thankfully hasn’t stopped me walking until the last 5yrs and I’ve been bedridden since for 22hrs a day in chronic pain. I can totally relate to you as I also have complex PTSD. Reading your post has given me a lot of hope as I suffer with terrible flashbacks too and nightmares and my anxiety can go through the Roof. I also have introverted BPD so my emotions can become very dis regulated… I ordered a weighted blanket and I’ve had it on for the last few hours and I’m still undecided as it feels very heavy on my legs but I’m getting a lot of comfort from it hugging the top of my body. It’s making me feel more secure too. I just hope I can manage to sleep under it. Did it take you a while to get used to it hun?

@@GodsGirl48 no, it didn’t really take me that long to get used to it. My school provided me one when I was in first grade. My teachers assistant would use it on me when I would have meltdowns. And it really helped to regulate me.

@@siennaprice1351 thanks SO much for getting back to me so quickly lovely 😊 That’s wonderful they supplied you one! And thanks, I’ll see how I get on tonight with it as my leg is feeling very aggravated with it on at the moment but probably just need to get used to it. I’m SO glad it helps you though 🙏🏼

My therapist recommended a weighted blanket that was 10% of my body weight. It helps a lot with my proprioception.

We use brown noise or fan noises helps a lot. I actually made one quick after I read about it. I put rugs in it for the weight. Use it for 15. Minutes and he loved it calming.

I love using a sound machine too - it can be soothing and also block out distractions. That's an interesting idea to use a rug inside a blanket. Glad it was helpful!

Hello, I am also sleep deprived person as well, and I don’t sleep at all, but I suggest you guys try weighted stuffed animals. They have changed my life all the time, because when I use them, I fall asleep easily, and I can stay asleep easily. 2:02 2:10

If I buy a weighted blanket what do you re? I don’t think he will like it all nite, for your daughter have you tried cotton or bamboo fabric instead.

I think choosing the right blanket is such a personal choice. I would recommend trying a few to find a favorite. And yes, it can definitely be used as a calming tool and does not need to be used all night. :-)

My autistic daughter 4 years always kicks the blanket off. She wouldn't like the weighted blanket would she?

I think it’s such a personal choice. Feels great and calming for some and too restrictive for others. For some kiddos with sensory sensitivities, they can be a coping/calming tool when used for short periods of time too.
