I saw DEICIDE in 1993, at the Lost Horizon in Syracuse, NY. I was 15 years old. Between songs people were yelling out song titles. I will never forget that I yelled out Behead the Prophet! Glenn Benton looked at me and pointed and said, No Lord shall live, then they proceeded to play that song. Greatest thing that ever happened to me at a show.
Heinz Gerhardt I remember yelling for Dead by Dawn after every song as it's my favourite. I was getting worried and pissed off. People around me started asking for it too to no avail. Little did I know it was their closer to massacre the crowd before they left. When Glen announced it at the end everyone around me patted me on my back and threw the horns in my face like we were in some cult and were about to sacrifice someone. Glen looked at me like, here's your victim you've been asking for. The floor opened up like a dark whirlpool in the middle of the crowd and we killed ourselves.
Both these stories gave me a boner
RanchoBurger me too man
That's badass bro!!!
And then you woke up
Back when Deicide were 1 of the greatest live bands on Earth
The very album that got me into Deicide. Legion, muthafuckas. Been listening to them since high school. Those were the days.
The only and true Deicide.
It was a dark night 1993 Thirsty Whale, IL.. I was 15. I had just seen Sheer Terror and Bludgeoned. Waiting in the dark in the over crowded bar a tall slender shirtless dude puts his hands on me and says... "Whats up dude" it was Steve Asheim...then the crowd looked around as the Hoffmans sound checked. I turned around and was face to face with Glen Benton. I moved to the side put my hand on his shoulder trying not to knock his B.C. Rich bass and said.." Fuck yeah you're the man!" He grinned and made his way on stage to rule the night !
Miss the Hoffman brothers.
Classic!
I saw them live recently and their new guitarists are reaaally good.
Schnoal74 they played a show recently under the name “Amon”. Full show here ua-cam.com/video/1UVXT3b7CnU/v-deo.html
They sucked. This band didn't find their sound until To Hell With God. Idiot
@@brophpiece 🤣🤡
Very rare to see high-quality footage of songs off Legion being played live. Band was so insanely sick at this point. Thank you for posting.
Opening track just destroys.
+Andrew Lee its a real relic for sure, glad you enjoyed it!
Totally agree mate, I’ve been searching for years for good legion era stuff. They were just amazing wish I was there
Hope they made a full recovery!

You rule thanks!
Only 3 songs from Legion in the set....wow even in 93 they were having trouble with it.
Glenn looks so menacing. I like how he looks at the ceiling almost the entire time
Hoffman brothers guitar work is what really made Decide
They were all solid musicians. Pioneers wish I lived in the states to see them
Steve Asheim wrote much of the music on guitar.
Asheim wrote 75% of this album on guitar. From OUTC onwards he wrote everything with Benton alone.
@@Vorgaloth Agreed. Amon's 2012 album (with just Hoffman brothers minus Steve Asheim) sounds very generic and nothing like early Deicide. If they had actually written the riffs here, it would reflect on their actual songwriting style, but when the creative reins are completely in their control, it sounds like boring cookie cutter death metal.
@@ItsNotaTuhmah Source?
Dude I was at this show at the ritz theater!! I saw so many sick early death metal shows there in the early 90s!!! This was definitely one of the sickest I was there for sure!!!! Thanks for uploading it!!!🤘🤘🤘
time when deicide was true deicide
Remember this show like it was yesterday. I am one of the ones screaming at glen!
could they turn up Steve's snare i can barely hear it...
You sound like Eminem
Ah fuck I’m drunk! Turn that ducking snare up lmao
I wondering if it’s triggered cuz it sounds very consistent on each hit?
@@fmbighair
Was wondering the same thing. I suspect it even more given the angle of his snare in this video would make rim shots impossible to play, so there’s no way it would be that loud in the mix.
I'll let them know
The greatest deicide era is with the hoffman brothers
All have BC Rich Ironbirds, 🤘🏻
Goddamn! Revocate the agitator is such a brutal song. Best era to be honest!
Hoffman brothers rules!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
35:17 - 36:02 Steve Asheim folks.
Legion = best album of Deicide.
When I interviewed Glen on this channel he seemed to not like that album so much and surprised it is a fan favorite.
@@ReaperMetalProductions is this serious? Legion is by far their best album. I would like to understand why they do not play the songs (except Dead But Dreaming) of this album in concert. Would you know how to answer?
@@ToxiKHarmst My fave album of theirs too. I think they don't play much from it cos it's more technical than their material before & after it, which is what makes up most of their setlist at any given period in their career. Basically they got lazy towards the end of the Hoffman era & ever since then, there've been lineup changes which probably also prevents them from relearning other Legion songs. That's my theory anyway
All of the above likes for Legion, plus it's one of the few classic death metal albums IMHO that sounds awesome in standard tuning for the guitars.
The new guitarists would just screw the leads up anyway. As usual.
My first death metal show was Deicide at the Ritz theater in Ybor like 1991. I was pretty young and my sister took me. It was totally amazing
This setlist is probably their best, ever. Perfect.
Thanks a lot for uploading this historical material for us! My friends and me listened to this band back then in 1993 in Ukraine! We used compact cassettes with magnetic tapes for that!
Duuuuuude!!!! Thanks 4 this!!! LEGION changed my whole approach to guitar! Hoffmans still ain't no joke
They really wrote some twisted shit. Evry riff on their LEGION album is just incredible. I can understand it had such an influence on your playing.
@@wildmanfisher I've seen them 3 times...all with Brian and Eric in the band. Last time was '04 in ATL on the Stench your. They were SICK. Still have the tix stubs and wristbands from the club with Steve, Eric, and Brian's signatures on them. Glen hauled ass before his amp even cooled off. Good show though. Marduk opened for them 🔥
One of my three wishes would have been used for this gig
DEICIDE stand amongst none.
Yeah that’s because if you look at people in the crowd sometimes it can be distracting
This is fucking gold! Deicide at their peak… playing stuff from their best album Legion. Thanks for uploading!
Deicide best live
Old school death metal. This is may live!
This is pure gold, the band at their best - the real Deicide. The tracklist miss Repent to Die and Trifixion, but anyway you can't have it all in life.
Those were the days.. Ybor used to be so awesome. I remember seeing them 91 or 92 at the Ritz... also remember getting Legion on tape for Christmas!
What a merry Antichristmas that must've been!
Yeah me to but the Ritz in Charlotte NC
Blown away this is unreal. Thanks for the upload. Incredible era 🤘
I have seen deicide live twice. I wish I could have seen them with the bros. This show looks sick and Glen sounds at his most demonic 🤘🐐🤘
Thanks for this vid! I had/have this show on VHS tape and this is a waaaay better version than my bootlegged copy. NOW? IF I can only get my ROKU player hooked up so I could watch this and TURN IT UP on my 50 inch SONY! LOL! This RULEZ! Steve Asheim honing his craft HERE! "Hail Evil Gods remember me I am your destiny".......🤘🤘
Damn, killing it with these rare live uploads. Hail VHS🤘⚡
This was Ybor City right before the ravers took over. It was a dark, scary place. Good times.
I was apart of both scenes
I was at this show.
Very cool!
deicide saw them in san antonio tx showcase always brutal 🤘🤘🤘
gold!!!
rarely video!! thank you dude!!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing. This is pure raw evil!!!
Gaddamn this is brutal!!
I was at this show. It was my 22nd birthday! I think Dismember opened the show if I recall correctly.
Nice birthday gift
Vader as well.
Happy 50th bday ;) Metal for life \m/
Damn that HAD to of been BRUTAL! DEICIDE LEGION era AND, VADER! Before De Profundis but STILL, been KILLER 🤘 What a time for the scene....🤘🥁🎵🥃🍻🔥🤘
Nice! DEICIDE FORCE!!!
I used to own this tape, this was definitely deicide at thier best.
Absolutely amazing, a real treasure this video
Oh what I would give to see deicide live in their prime
Florida Death Metal!!! FEASTING THE BEAST
THIS! Is what SLAYER only dreams about.
In 91 I saw Deicide and Many other local south Florida bands at The Fukkin Playoffs Challenge Best Florida Death Metal Band... Yes, They Kicked Everything To The Floor Man! So at least I can say I've seen them live, And Also They Rubbed It In With All That Blood On Their Faces... Wow bro, All The Memories . Almost too much to handle for me at the time... So Basically You Suck And I Fukkin Rule... Wucha Gunna Do Bout That!?!? Thankya
DEICIDE !!! 🤘👹🤘🔥🔥🔥
Caco Daemon was a perfect opening song. None of their other albums sound like Legion. It was a perfect follow up to their debut. Once Upon the Cross was also great, but it seemed a little less insane, and more focused. After the first 3 they have some decent songs, but overall don't seem as good all the way through any of the albums. In Torment in Hell is my favorite After the first 3 , I don't care if everyone else doesn't like it, they don't have to listen to it. Doesn't change how much I love the music
1. Satan Spawn
2. Dead But Dreaming
3. Lunatic
+Dan Stivaletti great, thanks!
🔥DEICIDE🔥🤘🏻👹🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
My first Deicide shirt was Legion
I remember deicide coming to England with this tour , the played the whole legion album and the whole deicide album I’m sure it was 1993
Thank you for posting this!
The devil really does have all the best tunes
Makes me miss when THe Ritz had metal shows
DEICIDE!!!!
Awesome
36:25 death playing drums
I always wanted to see Deicide do a tour with Death. It would have been awesome to see two amazing drummers, from two highly influential death metal bands share the same stage.
This is possibly the best set list I ever saw. Of any band ever. * Holy fuck, Steve, that's savage 00:35:19 and onwards
As much as I've enjoyed deicide over the years. I cant help but notice how fucked Glen Benton's vocals have been since the disappointing 00's era Deicide.
5:55a.m.
I've recognized YAMAHA drum set kinda Recording Custom double bass but what about pedals?!
Probably axis pedals, they’ve been around since the early 90’s, so it’s likely he used them around this time too. In fact, he still uses axis pedals to this day.
Snare Triggers??
maravilha
Any knows what the guitar heads/preamps are?
Same here I wanna know how they get their tone
For the Hoffmann era, the brothers preferred the early Mesa Dual Rectifier Solo heads. Glen used the Strategy 400+ head for his bass tone.
They pray to the Dark Lord for thier tone
I think Marshall jcm 800 in the really early days with distortion, I think they switched over to Mesa by this time
share the setlist!!
Anyone who has a chance that would be a tremendous help to us!
gonna have it up in a little bit
Deicide was with Hoffmanns...only...
Triggers ruined an otherwise fantastic concert.
what is caco-daemon?
Matt Dingo yea its awesome. It basically means a demon that attached to your back or something like that. Sick concept for a song.
Look up deicide's album *In The Minds Of Evil* for a visual reference to what the demon pretty much does.
Caco demon means bad spirit. Its a Greek word. Caco - bad, daemon - demon/spirit
ok...this was them at their peek, wow, pure hate.
This isn't the full concert. I have the full show. Its missing the encore.
Oh wow
Wow, what tracks did they play as the encore?
@@darwinism18 to be honest I'm not entirely sure. It was no more than 2 songs. I'd have to review it, it's been years. But I have it on vhs and I need to get a trustworthy vcr because mine are pretty beat up and I don't trust them not to eat the tape! But I'd be willing to bet other people have this posted on UA-cam in its entirety. Amongst collectors this shows gotten around.
Do you recall what other bands were touring with them? I was at the Atlanta show, but I can't remember
@@j.taylor8615 I don't think this was a part of a tour. I'm not entirely sure though but I was always under the impression it was a one off hometown show. It's Legion era.if memory serves correct, the Legion tour was Cancer and Demolition Hammer.
Definitely used a snare trigger on this show the hits have too much consistent clickiness
I have the same module and sample to my availability that's a alesis dm5 so whomever mentioned no triggers on these shows is full of shit snare and kicks are triggered but it doesn't matter I use them
@@neilmaccannell6778
There’s various shots of his kit in the video and I don’t see any triggers on his snare drum. If he did use them, it would have to have been an internal trigger, but I doubt those existed at the time of this video, seeing as how drum trigger technology was very new at the time and largely unknown to most drummers.
Такая атмосфера серьезная.,,звук,пленка видео...подача ...искренность...А теперь в наушниках Shorts....так смешно
What model of bass drum pedal did he used that time?!
DW 5000s (I believe)IF you can believe THAT..I always thought the DW pedals had waaaay too much slag in response and felt kinda sloppy, leastways for flyin double bass (being an old school metal drummer personally). That IS why most extreme metal drummers did NOT use them then, OR NOW I am pretty sure. DWs are GREAT IF ya wanna do Bonham and the like but.... And IF NOT? Steve played Yamaha drums/hardware primarily on the LEGION and CROSS era leastways I know. They could be Yamaha's pedals.....And with like straight up Wolverine steel toe boots (NOT combat boots) BUT work boots! LOL. Watch the WHOLE video and they show Steve's feet kicking away...GREAT stuff! 🤘🤘
@@jamescon55 I had the original cassette, back in 1992, and I remember it quite well written on the back (amongst the thank list) - BC Rich guitars, Remo Drums
@@darwinism18 Okay..So Steve PLAYED Yamaha drums on the Legion tour then..I have old VHS Deicide concerts from the Legion tour on VHS tapes as some of it is available on youtube as well.
He uses axis pedals now a days. Axis have been around 1990, so it wouldn’t be unusual to suspect he used them around this time too.
What preamp are they playing through?
666 likes currently, so I'm not going to like it.
fukk y eah
Unfukkinreal.
It's funny he "tunes"his bass, before turning it off completely...
