By popular request, this backing track is loosely based on the tune Montana by Frank Zappa. This is no Karaoke track, this is how I imagine a cool live jam would play out, so put your shoes and socks and guitars on people, and get jamming! Yippy-Yi-Yo-Ty-Ay!

Instead of a chord chart, I’m going to break the jam down like this:
32 of [ F# m6 / / / ]
16 of [B7sus / / / ]
12 of [F# m6 / / / ]
5 of [|: F# m6 / / / | / / / / | B / / / | / / / / :|]
*Play F# Dorian on the F# m6 chord
*Play B Mixolydian on B7sus (IT USES THE SAME NOTES AS F# DORIAN) The scales are relative, just the key center changes. You can also continue to play F# minor pentatonic, but that may start to sound a little strange.
The rest of the jam is F# Dorian, so go to town!!

Super Funky Zappa Style Jam | MONTANA Style Backing Track [F# Dorian / B Mixolydian - 94 BPM]
Your goal as a soloist is to create MELODY. Our neck diagrams give you the notes you can use to create that melody in REAL TIME. Think of the Diagrams as 3 layers of information:
1. PENTATONIC - The pentatonic scale works all the time and almost never changes, so this is the basic level.
2. MODE - The mode will always be the pentatonic PLUS 2 NOTES (modes have 7 notes). The mode can change depending on the chords (modal interchange).
3. CHORD - The chord layer shows you the notes of the chord changes (aka the HARMONY) in REAL TIME. Outgoing notes get smaller and fade out, incoming notes will fade in, so you know what notes to go for next.
In our app AlphaJams (currently in Beta), you will be able to control which layer you see, and how much of the neck you see. It should be out in the next few months, so please stay tuned!

Yes! Thanks Renzo, enjoyed myself a lot! I discovered Cubase has a fuzz, didn't even realize it had one haha. The warm setting is great, like it a lot. In the end I threw in my newly discovered delay plugin CHow Matrix, check that out as well, it's free and amazing. You know zappa played along to more than 1 or 2 chords right?

@@nowyoushred Every zappa style backing track you have is only one or two chords, would be nice to play along with some chord changes even if it's just on a handful of zappa tracks. It just gets kinda repetitive, I may as well just use my looper pedal. There are elements of zappa's music that I want to fall into the flow of but I don't really have the chance with two chords. I can find next to no zappa style backing tracks besides yours either. Check out "the orange county lumber truck live 10/25/1968" there are repeating sections, but that cool polyrhythm thing from the middle of the track isn't something I could do on a 2 chord track for example.
