Simple hack: buy a cheap patio paver stone at Lowes, Home Depot, or your local patio/garden store. A 12x12x1.5 paver should run you $2 and be more than enough protection for any heat-vulnerable surface. Even an expensive and more decorative paver should only run you less than $5.
