You can make your own fire starter easily. Cotton balls and Vaseline. Get a sandwich size ziplock bag. Put about a dozen cotton balls in it and then put a spoonful or 2 of Vaseline in it. Squish it around and mix the 2 good. Best fire starter ever I think.. For whatever that’s worth. Lol

Very cool. I bought one and haven't used it yet. One thing, $4 for 40lbs of pellets. Those are for pellet stove/furnace. Not "food grade" meaning they have stuff in them that may make your food taste bad or at least you shouldn't eat.

Many use that concept: once the outer ring cavity heats up, then the wood gas goes up there. Well if a person is on their property, it would be nice to prep the heat with a hot electric element. Then the gases would go where they are wanted more quickly.

I have used mine a couple times. Both times i used the pellets. The first burn no smoke and let it go out, didnt add more pellets. The second time i used, i added more pellets after the first round of pellets burned down and it caused so much smoke. The heck?
We also tried to cook hot dogs over it and they turned so black with soot, we didn't eat them... So confused as this doesn't happen when we cook them in our normal fire pit

Ditto - I tried pellets and I tried Solo's own oak wood. My marshmallows were grey with soot. The fire was hot - had as much blue as yellow flame. Also noted guy who answered phone at customer service had never used the product or toasted marshmallows. Kept referring to it as "burning marshmallows". I had used it twice, but since it was past 30 days he said I couldn't exchange it for the larger Mesa size because I used it. Well - I had to make sure it was the stove and not me. I'm not supporting Solo anymore because they don't support me and I will look to other brands.

Same thing with wood. I have the XL. If the bottom holes get clogged...smoke. If you don't keep it high flame...smoke, lots of it. Since they are so small, the ash fills up quickly and smoke is the result.

If this thing burns up pellets in 15 minutes, and the wood only lasts a little longer, to me it’s not worth the money! It’s more like a toy for people who like to play with fire!

It’s perfect for people that just want to roast marshmallows with their kids and don’t want to wait a couple of hours for the thing to go out when it’s bedtime.
