For sure brother. There were some other classics that spawned after DD, streets of rage was one I can remember. And fists of fury. As good as the late-comers were, everyone shifted to console around that time.
Such a classic. First arcade game I can legit say I got hooked on. I'd leave for school early so I could play in the morning, then skip karate class at night so I could play it again.
It's really weird when nostalgic joy and self-disappointment are so evenly matched. I feel like a loser, but also a winner for making it to the end of the video
@Chris Warren Why did you reply so aggressively? Are you a strong independent woman who feels the pathological need to always give an opinion? Whatever happened to you is no reason to behave like such a rude idiot. If your boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever broke up with you, grow some balls and stop being so jaded. Stop being an angsty dickhead, you think you're typing the truth, but you come across as a spoiled bitch. P.S. Was I right about you getting dumped? Or did you break a nail? Update me as to why you were so edgy and rude
I played this game back in the 80s. The flaw is that the elbow strike is too powerful. You can go through the whole game on one life using only the elbow strike. Man with a bat? Elbow him. Huge green giant smashing through a brick wall? Elbow him!
Shin Akumaforu It took some practice. The best part of the game was the great idea at the end. The two players had to fight each other. That was unique.
nothosaur Yeah that was the best part of the game lol. With practice you could cheat against your opponent an keep kneeing them in the head. Made my cousin mad everytime. He use to cheat on me though with elbow stand over me after I get knocked down and get elbowing before I get up to knock me back down.
I can't believe I'm watching this, I should be Xmas shopping. The nostalgia is killing me. The useless flying kick and the all-powerful super elbow. Oh and the music is incredible - especially when mission 2 kicks in.
It was short, simple, explained everything you needed to know about the premise of the game... I don't see how an opening scene for any game from 1987 could be better.
I remember being thrown on the final boss's balcony when I played as a kid. No one believed me and I could never do it again. In fact, I thought maybe I had dreamed the whole thing until I saw this video!
I was addicted to this game in 1989 i could complete the game with 10p that's just one credit just elbow from start to finish for an easy complete took me half of 89 to realize this.
That's what I didn't like about this game. It was the only technique that actually was reliable, and the weakest. I would get bored easily after the 20th elbow, and still havent reach the first Abobo.
So many memories ... I can literally still smell the chips from the chip shop where we used to gather to play this arcade game. Thanks for the memories .... Kevin, if you're out there, hit me up, LOL ...

Taken back to my childhood growing up as a kid I would go to Skegness a few times a year and this was for a few years at least the game I went to spent a fortune playing this as my parents was in the pub part drinking... They was the days best days of my life lol
so many memories of playing this in my town, the first that came was in an arcade machine with only 2 buttons (not 3) so we had to fight all the way with only kick and jump button... was so relieved when it came with all 3buttons and actually one can use the elbow strike to fight ;)
I was one of them. Its had to have been at least 20 years since I last played it. Probably longer really but I bet I could still pick up the controller to this day and rock it beginning to end with the starter life. Double dragon, skate or die, contra, mike Tyson's punchout, ghosts and goblins, ninja gaiden, and so many more were the bomb shit lol
man i remember when the arcade by me released this game ....so many ppl were crowded around it watching and taking turns to beat it...and thinking "man, gaming cant ever get any better than this !!"
One of the best arcade games ever, see a few real fights break out after the final two player fight when the other person would quickly grab the other players joystick and make him fall into the spike pit lol.

Classic.. My fav aspect of DD games were the holes/pits/death-traps. Nothing like knocking a lopar or abobo- or a boss over the edge to oblivion with a few hits! This and DD2 on the NES had some great pit potential but Super DD on the SNES unfortunately had just ONE pit. A major flaw in an otherwise awesome DD game..
How nice of the girl to sit there hanging on the rope where the entire time she could have gotten free and helped you fight the goons. At the end she yelps and magically is freed from her ropes, how convenient lol. I remember playing the 2 player mode where you got to the end and then you had to duel. Whoever you were playing you could just reach over and hold down on the opponents controller and he would fall off the edge for an easy victory. This game seems like it had issues, it was like it was in slo mo at times.
Pull down on the controller, haha, I never saw anyone do that. You could beat the other player up along the way throughout the game, though, which was very popular where I played. Sometimes you'd get some kid who wasn't used to that and he'd get upset.

Can anybody remember an arcade game like Double Dragon where you could power up a super punch? The top half of your character would ‘flame up’ and your next punch would do massive amounts of damage. It was a 2 player beat em up scroller like Double Dragon. I remember at some point in the game you were on top of a moving train.
the best game ever to play on co op with a friend, co op is the best going through all that adventure with a best friend saying "you take them on the left" or "I'll help you" haha co op games are the best, wish I could go back in time to when I was 10 and do it again with my best mate
The best part of this game is when it starts off when my man punch her in the stomach and picked her up and walked away.🔥The beginning part,I use to rock this game on the arcade back then.
At least not in the original form. They try to make anniversary editions of games, but they end up falling flat somewhere. For example, as much as I liked DD Neon, it wasn't the best one I've ever played.
one of our favorite things to do when playing 2 players was to get the last enemy into a full nelson and then the other player would whip that enemy tons of times to rack up free lives. That was how we tried to finish the game with a single quarter. If you held the whip facing the edge of the next screen you can bring the whip to the next stage in some areas.
such an awesome classic game. I recently visited some arcades and was thoroughly disappointed to find that none of them seem to have this game any more. The retro section had space invaders, pac-man and donkey kong and that was it. They're also great classic games but I personally feel that any retro arcade worth speaking of should have a double dragon machine. I was in Scarborough. If any one can recommend a better place for retro arcade in the UK then I'd be most greatful
+Woltato did you ever play aliens? when I was a kid I used to get a load of 10 pence pieces and play those 2 games and sometimes WWF lol . But I cant find them anywhere now :(
I remember playing this at my Pizza Hut when I was a kid. It was amazing. For my birthday i asked for DD for the NES. It was such a disappointment compared to the arcade version. I get it now, but as a kid it was a total let down.
+Andrew Heinlein They did a O job the hardware wasnt up to par. The Sega master system version was a touch better. It was two players and allowed for more than more than 2 enemies on screein. You should the Atari 2600/7800 version. ):
I remember my friend spent like 3 weeks of grass cutting money to buy the Commodore 64 version and it SUCKED. Crappy graphics and super easy, we beat it first time playing and probably never touched it again.
The brawler that set the genre's unofficial rule that the final level must have marble statues, red carpets, or both. (sneaky exploit on the final boss)

@@taekwondotime I was searching for a video of this. I did this cheat on purpose in arcade machine when I was a kid, It is posible to do with a partner, you jump and your partner gives you a flying kick in the air trowing you to that terrace.
My friend and I used to beat this during our high school lunch break. One quarter each, then run back to class. Fantastic beat 'em up game for all time.
I've seen most players just try to jump right through the spears and avoid getting stabbed like maybe 75% of the time... What I really HATE is those stone blocks that come out randomly and hit you in the very beginning of that final stage. Depending on what difficulty the game was set at, they will either not come out at all as you walk right by or they might suddenly keep on hitting you until you die! 😝
@@OtomoTenzi At least in this version, it's easier to see each brick coming out. In the NES version, the bricks are these white squares that just kind of pop out of the wall, and it's difficult to see how close you are to the next brick while waiting for it.
A great game, but a bit too ahead of of its time, the slow downs really show this. Pretty good though considering that it was an 8-bit game, using two Motorola 6809 CPU's and an a few other 8-bit chips for sound playback. If you run the original via MAME and use the Cheat function you can do a virtual overclock of the game's two main CPU's which completely eliminates the slow downs.
When the end-boss area music kicks in it still gives me goosebumps after all this time. An all-time classic from my youth.
Me too. It used to scare me as a kid. I don't think I ever got past stage 1 because of it, what with the big black muscly guy at the end. haha

Toda mi infancia en 22 minutos! Hermoso!!!
My friend and I used to beat this during our high school lunch break. One quarter each, then run back to class. Fantastic beat 'em up game for all time.
I wonder how paid the creators were. I hope their doing good..
Damn the music. That music always brings back so many memories.
Que saudade desse tempo. muito bom!
Double dragon is my favorite arcade game back in the day of 1987 I was 16 years old
great job !!
I always found it hilarious when the enemies are defeated, it sounds like they are puking their guts out.
12:01 - "You got 50,000 on Double Dragon?!"
Gets supplexed to the 2nd floor, "while I'm here, let me start punching on the final boss"
music by The One and The Only Giorgio Moroder
16:04 on arcade it was IMPOSSIBLE to get passed those without getting serious damage
@@GaryBeltz Yes, that's true!
마지막 보스 레드카펫에 들어갈때 나오는 음악.. 지금 들어도 닭살 돋듯이 좋네요.. 30년 전을 추억해 봅니다...
YOU just was dying to let everybody know the techs and specs to the game weren't you😂
Oh yes, absolutely! lol
do you know which language program was used?
French
I like tech-babbling.
The meanest sucker punch to a woman I’ve ever seen in a video game.
Reminded me of that brutal scene from “True Romance”.
