Few things to note here man
    - Chester did backing vocals
    - Mike’s lead vocals started with this album and to me they provide a nice contrast to chester’s screaming and some songs suit Mike’s vibe more than Chester’s at times
    - this recording was slightly pitched up likely to dodge a copyright takedown (the actual album version is lower in pitch and sounds better)

Love it. Love the whole evolution of LP. A lot of people talked shit about them later on but they went from angry teens to mature men, fathers... You can’t expect the music to stay the same. That wouldn’t have been true to who they were.

I've always enjoyed when Linkin Park changed up their style. Harder songs go on one playlist, softer songs go on a different one. But no matter what, their writing has always touched me. They've always captured universal emotions and been so honest about them.

Well thanks to Chester's guidance which helped Mike to sing this song. If you wanna hear his singing capability please have a listen to "NO ROADS LEFT" - which is not in the album. Chester said that he recorded vocals for the track, but Mike's ended up fitting better, similar to what happened on "In Between", which is on the album. Mike explained on the DVD that it was an honor that Chester and the rest of the band thought that his vocals were better than Chester's on the track.

Mike has a beautiful singing voice that only improves as the years go on. I love this track. I think it's often forgotten about which upsets me.
Btw, the next album, A Thousand Suns, is lot different to anything you've ever heard. It's a masterpiece and I can't wait for you to check it out. It's a concept album with opening tracks and interludes. There's a specific way you'll have to react to it, and specific tracks you'll have to group together in the same video, so please let me know if you'd like a list of what tracks to react to with what. I'd be more than happy to help!

i like the way you analize songs of the albums one by one, also you picked a lot of good and underrated albums (sometimes under), you seem like a nice dude to hang out drink some beers and talk about music, cheers from chile

if you think that this album is "different", just wait until you hear the next album " A Thousand Suns" xd i'm totally ok with the fact that LP changed their direction couple of times, the individuals in this band have so much different talents musically and not only. I think they benefited a lot from these changes, and their live shows also were different experience because of amount of styles that they presented. Great times man...great times. And great video, always enjoying true reactions. Good luck

Ilyas Elouchihi. absolutely correct! People dont realise that mike did most of the writing and production for lp! Its his band! Never would have worked without chester! But yes mike is the spirit 👍

The song sounds a bit off here. its a bit lower pitched normally. Mike is also singing the bonus track No Roads Left, wich is much more impressive. In Between is avery beautiful song though. Mike and Chester were harmonizing so well.

Enjoy the ride. LP is a different band at every new album after Meteora, not only in sound but in the studio too. They often change their production methods, always trying to stay away of their comfort zones.
I'm really curious for your reaction to A Thousand Suns (next album).

  • @tealover112

yes, he can sing, and he's amazing.
please react to linkin park - no roads left. mike's singing this song.
or another amazing song «sorry for now», where mike's singing and chester's rapping.

Hands down, my favorite Linkin Park track is _Wretches and Kings._ No one pays it much attention, which is strange, considering how relevant it is to the politics today.

Dan, you can bring back your The Devil Went Down To Georgia reaction. It's uploaded on Spotify and UA-cam now.
In a meantime I recommend you a new Tallah's song called 'Overconfidence'. Just if you would like to hear a baby of Korn and Slipknot.

This is admittedly probably my least favourite song from Minutes To Midnight, though that doesn't mean I think it's a bad song. It just... I dunno, it feels more like an idea for a song instead of an actually finished piece of music.
You touched on something when you were talking about the feelings that come from this song, that really touches on the strengths of Linkin Park, in my opinion. LP, IMO, has always been greater than the sum of its parts. This isn't meant to criticize the band members, but LP's music has always leaned more towards the simple side. Brad's a good guitarist and Rob's a good drummer, but you're not gonna see them on any top 10 lists, is what I'm saying. Even Mike, who is a very talented individual and has a strong flow as a rapper, isn't particularly strong lyrically. People heap praise on Chester in particular and... well frankly he deserves that praise because he's one of the greatest rock vocalists of the last 20 years, but I think he gets so much of the attention because he's one of the few elements of LP that truly stands out from their peers.
But while I just called LP a simple band, which I'm sure people will probably read as an insult, I think they actually use that to their advantage. The guitar, drums, bass... none of them are noteworthy on their own (well, except for The Hunting Party, and that mostly extends to the guitar and drums), but they mesh together SO well, often better than bands with far more talented people behind those instruments. No one piece of their music overshadows the other. And this simplicity extends to their lyrics. In Between is an exceedingly simple song: "I fucked up our relationship because I was a liar, sorry about that." But simplicity breeds universality, and Mike harnesses that as a songwriter. So much of Linkin Park's music you can go back and listen to and feel like it still holds up, because the songwriting is broad enough that a part of you can still relate to it. Rock in particular THRIVES on strong emotion, so when you hear a song like Numb, you have millions, even BILLIONS of people listening to hit, who can all relate on one level or another to the feeling that nothing you do will ever be good enough. Millions hear Leave Out All The Rest, and can relate to wondering how people will remember them once they're gone. Millions hear One More Light, and can relate to how it feels like you're the only one who cares when something beautiful is snuffed out.
Millions can hear In Between, and relate to how it feels like you've fucked up a great thing because you had too much pride to just be honest with yourself and the person who loved you.

This song is better than the entire One More Light album.
I love Linkin Park but I still don't understand what made them make such a weird album like that.
"Minutes To Midnight" and "A Thousand Suns" were experimental and good.

Minutes to midnight took the soul out of the band.
