This show originally aired sometime during the summer of 1973 (August I believe,) but SOCAL summers are generally cool until around this time and then it can get very hot. This show was still trying to gain it's leg's at the time.
The show was going to be canceled based 9n the first 6 months 9f the show. The brought in new writers, spiced up the questions and settled 9n Gene, Richard, Charles and Brett as the regulars. From there the show took off. The rest as they say is history.
At least in instances like these, the contestants picked the same ones they also picked for the audience matches - even with Richard having the reputation of being picked so often for Super Matches, I always get puzzled when a contestant picks someone else's answer for the audience match (particularly when they pick a $500 winner), only to then turn around and pick Richard for the head-to-head.

While the show is still a bit boring at this point, it is fascinating to see the elements of the successful version being tested, forming up, and coming together in these early episodes.
I find her to be shrill, obnoxious and not-at-all funny. She tried way too hard to be funny, with it coming out forced and attention-seeking. I've not seen her in anything else, nor seen interviews with her. So, perhaps it was all an expected, scripted act and she was more pleasant off-camera.
That is the way I feel -it's like she tries way too hard to be the center of attention - once in a while she can be amusing , but more often than not she is catty and rude - and when she sings I mute the sound. Plus , she and Gene seem to belittle answers that are not theirs

Lynne Rayburn (Gene's ONLY daughter) was 31 when this version of the show started, and probably never met Richard Dawson. Gene didn't live in California. He flew there to tape shows on weekends from the east coast. I doubt his 31 year old grown up daughter tagged along much.
@@leafstigers She must have when the show went into daily synd because Trotter, Lynn's dog, was on the MGSynd and MGPM for one episode with Gene. Of course at this time Gene and Helen were living full time in LA for 6 months of the year because Gene had gotten sick of flying every two weeks. Whether Lynne came in earlier I don't know as they tend to not get alone alot of their lives..

having watched the first 13 shows in about 3 or4 days, this show is starting to have the classic feel that made it number one day time show.
