This film is pure gold! I am not an American, and I have never listened to Rock n Roll, but Almost Famous is somehow dissolved within me ever since I first watched it.
Yeah, I'm just going to ignore the caption "Original Screenplay" and pretend this was Cameron accepting the award for Best Picture. 'Almost Famous' is a masterpiece.
Fun Fact: At this time Kate Hudson was married to Chris Robinson, Cameron Crowe to Nancy Wilson. In 1990, Chris's band (the Black Crowes) opened for Nancy's band (Heart) on their Brigade tour.
Awwww Russell, what a class act. Almost Famous is one of the best movies every made. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen it. It makes me so happy.
"Almost Famous" has gotten better with age, even though it's not that old. It's a great valentine to Billy Wilder's "The Apartment" screenplay and Crowe really deserved that Oscar®.
About time Cameron won an Oscar-Way to go! Nancy-you look Marvelous, dahling. I am 7 years younger almost to the day and I hope i look half as good as the Goddess herself when I am her age.Love ya Nancy!
One of the few times the academy gave proper appreciation to true movies like this incredible testament to the power of music. Not only that but a beautiful portrayal of flawed individuals finding belonging and a sense of home in their shared dream. Crowe lived through this era and what he gave us was the “lightning in a bottle” experience of what i consider the greatest time to be alive although unfortunately i’ve never experienced it. All that’s left is the music and the memories and Crowe describes his movie perfectly, a love letter. I wish people gave him far more credit for his work like Vanilla Sky which for me is a true masterpiece such as this movie.
it should have at least been nominated for best picture the nominee it could have gone on for i think was Chocolat, Almost Famous is one of my all time favourite movies
My nominees: Cameron Crowe, "Almost Famous"*(WINNER) Lee Hall, "Billy Elliot" (runner-up) Susannah Grant, "Erin Brockovich" David Franzoni, John Logan & William Nicholson, "Gladiator" Kenneth Lonergan, "You Can Count on Me"
I read that Led Zeppelin never allows their music to be used commercially. So Cameron Crowe went to see them and show them the movie. They loved it so much they gave their permission.
Do you see that guy in the 15th row behind where he is sitting. In the tux there, he turns his head to the right suddenly. That's not me. Just living out my hopes and dreams. Thank you all, so much. I couldn't have done it without you.
The greatest movie about music and the goings-on of the scenes behind the it! As well as it's absolutely fantastic soundtrack! I can never get sick of either! It's all happening!❤️🎸😎👍
2001 Academy Awards Best Picture: Gladiator (Yeah, have to agree, but Almost Famous a close 2nd) Best Director : Steven Soderbergh - Traffic (Should have been Ridley Scott) Best Actor : Russell Crowe - Gladiator (Yep!) Best Actress: Julia Roberts - Erin Brockovich (Yep!) Best Supporting Actor : Benicio del Toro - Traffic (Should have been Joaquin Phoenix) Best Supporting Actress : Marcia Gay Harden - Pollock (Should have been Frances McDormand) Best Original Screenplay : Almost Famous - Cameron Crowe (Yes!!!!)
Funny that "William Miller" was based on Cameron Crowe's real life experiences as a teen working for Rolling Stone. The things you learn about people. What a way to grow up!
Agreed, JakeIsFine379. So well deserved (the award). This really is an amazing film. Makes me glad I was William Miller's age in the era of this movie. I think I'll go watch it now ... AGAIN.
Guys, stop the b*tching against Gladiator. They are two movies of different genres, and you can't compare them. I'm a big fan of both the films and its difficult for me to judge which one is better. Surely, I'd say that Almost Famous is more realistic and I associate myself with it more because I'm a die-hard rock fan and amateur writer since a long time and there is nothing better in the world for me than 70s music. But Gladiator was also revolutionary for its genre including the acting/ music.
Memento was a 2001 film, Academy-wise. Also, it was a Best Adapted Screenplay nominee that year. Almost Famous came out in 2000, and this is the Best Original Screenplay category.
@@supermariofan03 That’s not true. While the visuals are incredible but the screenplay is also great. The story is great and the characters are deep and interesting and that because of the screenplay.
@mothersfreakout Aren't they related in some way? I heard they were second cousins or somehting but Wiki answers claims they are not related. Does anyone know?
Almost famous is truly one of the best written and most original storys i have ever seen
I agree 100%. An all-time classic.
One great picture. Perhaps the greatest soundtrack ever.
Easily in my shared opinion.
Should have been nominated (and won) for Best Picture.
Hell No...
Mateus Murozaki yes, should have been nominated instead of Chocolat
And best director
It topped Roger Ebert's best films of that year if not mistaken.
My all time favorite motion picture right behind JAWS...
@@diegopisfil614 both should’ve been nominated, chocolat is amazing

Should have been nominated for Best Picture.
I definitely consider Best screenplay as close 2nd
If only there were 9 nominees....
Almost Famous should have been nominated for Best Picture and then win as well.
"A love letter to music."
Love that

It's funny how Patrick Fugit was the lead in Almost Famous and yet he never became largely famous after that
hahahaha
He was almost famous
@@charliejonas4609 Good Pun and Joke. I don't think Cameron Thanked him. I think he may have done some other Movies after Almost Famous
Thats sad
Yeah, but he did some good movies afterwards like Gone Girl, Wristcutters, and First Man.
Awwww Russell, what a class act. Almost Famous is one of the best movies every made. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen it. It makes me so happy.
My all time favorite writer. He ended up giving the Oscar to his Mom.
Almost Famous is one of my favorite movies, it taught me to listen to Led Zeppelin, thanks Cameron!
"Almost Famous" has gotten better with age, even though it's not that old. It's a great valentine to Billy Wilder's "The Apartment" screenplay and Crowe really deserved that Oscar®.

Great quote, and great performance by PHS. One of my favorite of his performances. Great movie overall.
ComProdMan1 RIP, He was beyond talented.
I came here to say the exact same line. May it live forever.
💔💔💔
Almost Famous has great screenplay.
I can't believe they played him up to Nancy's "Lucky Trumble" ♥...so cool! 🎸
Patrick Fugit was really good in that role, great movie!

Movie is a masterpiece!
Nancy Wilson's beauty is beyond reason.
you said it........TRUE!!!
It was beyond Cameron too, apparently!
Yes .. she definitely is, especially then ! Glad he announced her there !
I think I read somewhere that Russell Crowe was a huge fan of Almost Famous and up there in the front row he was obviously feeling his oats...

Nobody has the patience to read such long sentimental comments on UA-cam. Go write an essay that no one will read.
I completely agree. This is my favorite Crowe film, but Vanilla Sky is a close second.

Susannah Grant, "Erin Brockovich"
David Franzoni, John Logan & William Nicholson, "Gladiator"
Kenneth Lonergan, "You Can Count on Me"
That's Russell Crowe that gets up to shake his hand right before he gets on the stage. Very sweet!
Just saw this movie and loved it so much!
You won't be disappointed if you check out Cameron Crowe's other movies either. :)
+Maximus Americanus Aside from Say Anything and Jerry Maguire, his films aren't really that good.
I beg to differ. ;)
Maximus Americanus And I respectfully disagree with you...
+Peter Silva Where the hell have you been? It's a work of art
Such a great movie.
Film truly is the greatest art.
aww hes so modest and classy . congrats on ur oscar Cameron!
He so deserved this award, he poored his life's blood into that screenplay.
My favorite movie :D will always remind me of adolescence and great music .

FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH.
Well deserved finally!
Glad he won this even if the movie was robbed of a best picture nomination.
"Cabin in the sky" by Nancy Wilson, from what I know - unreleased, but if somehow somebody does have the song please let me know :)
when 2 crows meet 😂
I love this movie, its my all time favorite.
I read that Led Zeppelin never allows their music to be used commercially. So Cameron Crowe went to see them and show them the movie. They loved it so much they gave their permission.
What's a bigger thrill? Winning an Oscar or kissing Nancy Wilson? I'll choose Nancy.
I'll second that !
This film should have won Best Picture.

great movie, i watched it several times... and look, Chris Robinson is there! Cool
Yes, he was married to Kate at the time.
Vanilla Sky should have won the entire suite in the year it should've been nominated
Possibly my favorite movie...love Jerry Maguire too...have almost all of CC's movies
Yeah, Nancy Wilson is hot!
Nancy looking gorgeous as always ! ( 0:52 )

@DCProductions77 You can't compare the two, they have no similar qualities. They're both awesome in my opinion.
Cameron also wrote the book "Fast Times At Ridgemont High."
Well played, sir.
The hair on Frances McDormand
I did not know he was married to Nancy Wilson for over 20 years. He was married to one of the best guitarists ever
Chris Robinson sitting next to Kate Hudson. That was cool.

I already had twenty five Oscars. Cynthia Corcoran as Alice Phoebe.
This movie's screenplay is NO WHERE NEAR as good as Memento, this is a snub if I ever have seen one.
Memento was a 2001 film, Academy-wise. Also, it was a Best Adapted Screenplay nominee that year.
Almost Famous came out in 2000, and this is the Best Original Screenplay category.
awesome movie. the doors, almost famous, i love this kind of movies couse its about rock and this two are just awesome. Congrats Cameron!
The Audrey and Billy he mentions at the end were Billy Wilder and his wife Audrey - not Audrey Hepburn.
When his name is announcement, what's song touched?
The woman that announces his background, sounds like the voice of Diane in Family guy.
of course it didn't go to Memento. Have even seen "Almost Famous"?? Much better movie than Memento.
Thirty Grammys awarded to Cynthia Corcoran in my stage names. Three Nobel peace prizes in my stage names and more......
This is his peak It's all downfall after that for Cameron
This list should have been:
Almost Famous
Billy Elliott
Erin Brokovich
You Can Count on Me
Meet The Parents

why did he shake russell crowe's hand???
