The Jungle Book is one of Disney’s greatest classics and sadly, the last film that Walt Disney himself ever supervised. He passed away before the film’s theatrical release. I like the collection of characters The Jungle Book has, especially Baloo and Shere Khan (who are my favorites). I also love the songs (I Wanna Be Like You being the best imo) and the musical score as well. Chock full of exotic vibes and catchy beats. This film is a lot of fun overall, a timeless classic!

My kid, born 1988 loved this movie. Knew all the words to all the songs. We watched on VHS and I still have it today. He named his first kitten Shere Kahn because she had tiger stripes. Second one solid black as Bagherra.
Love watching you discover the old ones. Bambi is great but can be traumatic as Bambi's mom is killed. Dumbo is VERY VERY racist but beautiful. I hope you continue on this path.

I really admire the attention to detail on the animal character’s anatomy, mainly Shere Khan. When you see him move about in certain ways you can tell that the animators put a lot of heart into the character’s movements!

This and The Sword in the Stone were the chillest, kick backiest Disney movies. I watched these two a lot growing up. Always loved how relaxed they were, both in vibe and even in the scribbled, loose drawing style.

To answer your question, yes there are two species of bear in Asia that can be found in jungles. There's sun bears in places like Borneo and Malaysia, and sloth bears (like Baloo) in India. Also, King Louie was voiced by Italian jazz singer Louis Prima, who sang songs like "I Ain't Got Nobody" and "Pennies from Heaven". The latter was actually used in the movie Elf.

You can really tell they did their research on the animals for this which I really appreciate as a zoology geek. The slow glide and hoping vultures do, the slight wobble elephants do when they walk, the big cat movements as a whole are just perfect
Also yes there are a surprising amount of Asian bear species (pretty sure Baloo is ment to be a sloth bear) and bagerra is a black leopard (not a species of leopard just a rare mutation they can get)

I grew up with this version, and I just love what Jon Favreau did for the 2016 "live action" version, with an all-star cast for the animals, and introducing Neel Sethi as Mowgli. you can tell that Jon really enjoyed working with Neel to get his performances.

I’ve noticed the pacing of Disney films with this animation style (from the 60s-70s) is slower than Disney movies nowadays. Lots of quiet moments with not a lot going on, just characters being characters. I think the characters usually have enough charm to keep us engaged though.
This was one of my favorites when I was a kid :) as someone who’s seen most Disney films a million times and has kinda permanent nostalgia goggles on, it’s fun to see an adult react to them for the first time.

All these great actors, now a lot of them gone but making their place in our hearts. The characters, Baloo and Bagheera, they're so great. A real pair of pops.
Then there's the end with that haunting (albeit outdated) song. Like love is what helped Mowgli survive and it also brought him back to his rightful place (but you're right, a lot of heartfelt hugs should have been part of that ending)
All I know about the live action remake of this film was that the boy, Neel Sethi, who played Mowgli gave it all he got and was praised in India. And yes, you should watch Shark Tale, it's one of those guilty pleasure films; lots of references but Jack Black and Will Smith hold up the film.

King Louie, being an original character created for the movie (there are no orangutans in India), was voiced by Louis Prima, a very famous jazz musician of the time. Prima did enjoy his role so much that he asked Disney for a larger role in the film. Disney had originally planned to have King Louie voiced by fellow jazz singer Louis Armstrong, but foresaw the backlash of having a black man voice an ape.

Hi there, JV here’s the thing about the production of The Jungle Book you see, Walt Disney and his storyboard artist Bill Peet were having some terrible disagreements on the tone of the film were Walt wanted entertainment and comedy but Peet wanted some drama and suspense and Peet left the project but gave his own sketches for his version of The Jungle Book. And another thing is around UA-cam there is a UA-cam channel known as Jon Solo has some videos about Kipling’s stories and another UA-cam channel known as Ezra Weiss were he explains about Kipling’s stories compared to the British occupation of India in Kipling’s time and he was born there. Of course there might be some spoilers of other Kipling’s stories you haven’t heard of before and I suggest you should give it a read.

Hi there! I posted this already, but I figured I would post it again. Love your reactions! I have a few movie suggestions for you if you’re interested in animated films that are amazing and not “mainstream” Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks: The Last Unicorn (1982); one of my favorite films of all time. Lots of great voice talents, gorgeous hand drawn animation, and an amazing soundtrack by the band America. Cats Don’t Dance (1997); this has a lot of big voice talent and was actually worked on by the legendary Gene Kelly before his passing. It’s a period piece with a lot of pop culture references to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Quest for Camelot (1998); I love Arthurian stories so this is one of my favorites. Many bug name actors in here and a pretty great soundtrack. One of the songs “The Prayer” has nominated for multiple awards and a huge hit made famous by Celine Dion (actually singing the song in the movie) and Andrea Bocelli. Anastasia (1997); this is a fantastic movie based a tragic and horrific real life event. A lot of reactors tend to go in blind to this movie without having any context or knowledge of the history of the Romanoff family and their murder. I recommend taking some time to learn about the real Anastasia and her family. The movie is based on rumors that supposedly the Grand Duchess Anastasia survived the massacre and the hoaxes of women claiming to be her. This is of course prior to forensic evidence proving that the entire family did indeed perish. Still a great movie with a superb soundtrack. This is a Don Bluth film. Swan Princess (1994); this is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s of course based on the ballet of the same name. They added a bunch of sequels (totally unnecessary), but I recommend just watching the first one. Some may argue to watch the second one, but I’m a purist and don’t acknowledge any sequels lol. A Bunch (if not all) of the Don Bluth films: The Secret of NIMH (1982) An American Tail (1986) The Land Before Time (1988) All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) Rock-a-Doodle (1991) LOVE THIS ONE Thumbelina (1994) A Troll in Central Park (1994) The Pebble and the Penguin (1995) Titan A.E. (2000) Other Films: The Pagemaster (1994) The Princess and the Goblin (1990) I adore this movie Ferngully: The Last Rainforest (1992) Little Nemo: Adventure in Slumberland (1989) An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991) This is a direct sequel to An American Tail by Don Bluth

A sad little trivia is that this was the last movie that Walt Disney himself was overseeing as he passed away a year before the movie's premiere, from lung cancer (he was a heavy smoker ever since the age of 13) and it became his swan song as it became a big hit. It was also a turning point for the Disney studio as without their leader, the animators and story men of Disney studio was struggling to keep the quality up as Aristocats and Robin Hood while modest hits, they weren't smash hits like The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella and Snow White. They managed to get one better success with The Rescuers but then it started go downhill with The Fox and the Hound (which was the last DIsney movie were some of the Nine Old Men like Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston before they retired, and the first with the new animators that later became the great animators of the modern era such as Glen Keane and even future Pixar director John Lassetter and Tim Burton) and even worse The Black Cauldron that had a long and diffcult production, which turned out to be a critical and commercial flop that was even beaten by The Care-Bears movie. This would eventually lead to The Disney Renaissance starting with The Little Mermaid (which even beat Don Bluth's All Dogs Go to Heaven, the ex-Disney animator managed to beat Disney earlier in the 80's with The Secret of NIHM, An American Tail adn The Land Before Time).

As well as jungle book 2, you definitely need to see that one in that one the voice of sora plays as Mowgli.
Fun fact three of the vultures were voiced by the Beatles well the bald one was voiced by an actor who voiced in other Disney animated movies
Bagheera is a panther😋 Fun fact Bagheera, Baloo and Sher are Indian that translates into in the animal that they are, however Sher Khan means Tiger King

this movie is a classic; i love that now as an adult i realize how much more normal these two dads and a found family felt than the forced hetero disney movie kissy stuff did. this was always on repeat along with sword in the stone, monsters inc, and a bug's life
SHARK TALE IS SO UNDERRATED! one of my favorite movies of all time; it's so funny, the cast is incredible, and the jokes actually land. the animation holds up pretty well, and no songs until the end when there's a remix of Car Wash by Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott - it's actually INCREDIBLE and so worth your time

If you do watch the live action version of this i also recommend the netflix version "Mowgli" Its a more adult and darker version more along the lines of the books tone instead of the disney version

(At 15:40) also when Walt Disney was still alive, who the HELL'S idea was there to put an orangutan in in a cartoon based off Rudyard Kipley's book?

If I had to venture a guess as to why the default convention with film was beginning credits (as opposed to end credits) is twofold:
    1. The earliest film had so little “credits” that they were functionally the same as title cards
    2. Film as entertainment was considered an evolution of the traditional stage play, and stage plays featured pamphlets with the players and producers which an audience could browse while waiting for the show to begin

This is my favorite Disney animated movie. First saw it when I was about 2nd grade age. Sick with chicken pox. My parents liked to compare me to mogoli cuz I was close to age and being mixed race, had that tanner skin. Not to mention the songs are just something different than all other movies. My dad loved the songs also.
Sherkhan scared me though for yrs.
Only thing I really noticed about this film is how short n simple it is compared to most other movies.

If you listen hard, as you work your way through the Classic Disney movies, they reuse a lot of the voice actors, and I totally like it. The voice of Ka, the Snake, is played by Sterling Holloway, who was in a lot of Disney projects, my favorite being Winnie the Pooh, and the Cheshire Cat.
Fun fact, the voice of Baloo was Phil Harris, a famous performer at the time. He had a hard time with the dialogue written for his character, so they allowed him to ad-lib, and some of it is in the movie. His scat singing was all him having a good time. (If I missed something, please add/correct, I’m just going from the memory of the documentary)
    Can’t wait to see more!

Hey JV, I wouldn’t mind reactions to some of the reimagined Disney films. 2016’s The Jungle Book, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, even 2019’s Aladdin and The Lion King. I know there are those that shun these reimagined Disney classics, as they don’t really capture the magic of the animated originals (and I do prefer the the originals FYI) but I personally like them for what they are, and not how they compare to the OG’s.

Baloo is a sloth bear and those exsist in India. He comes from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book but his character there is a lot more sterner than his laidback, happy-go-lucky attitude in the Disney movie.

Honestly, Baloo should consider himself lucky that Shere Khan was SO PISSED that he chose to slash him to death, rather than bite him on the throat, like the tiger would have done if he had brought down Baloo in real life.

Originally, the vultures at the end were going to be voiced by none other than the Beatles. There are conflicting evidence for why they turned it down, some say it was because their schedule was too full in order for them to come to America and record, while others say it was because John Lennon didn’t want to do it. However, you can tell the vultures are based off of them and you can see who was going to voice who (The brown haired one would have been John, the blonde one is Paul McCartney, the tall lanky one is George Harrison and the short bald one is Ringo Starr).

My favorite animated non Disney movie is Balto (1995). I also read comment that listed many good non Disney animated movies from that list are: Quest for Camelot (1998), Anastasia (1997), The Land Before Time (1988), All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989), Titan A.E. (2000). If you are going to live transfer into love action movies there are many good Disney action movies that are based around dogs: White Fang (1991), Iron Will (1995), Homeward bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), Homeward bound 2: Lost in San Francisco, and Togo (2019).

I’m so late to this video. King Louis is old an old jazz/swing artist crooner Louis Prima.. he’s big with us Italian Americans. He even has some popular/viral sounds on Tik Tok. You’d know him if you heard him. He’s had songs featured in Elf (Pennies from Heaven) and a few rom coms.
