#10…Keith Moon, The Who. Hands down, the most interesting character to sit behind a drum kit in all of rock history. From Roger Daltrey talking about how his drumming was based on following the vocal melody to Pete Townshend asking if anyone in the audience could play the drums because Keith had passed out on his kit to the fire he unleashed on every video you can watch to this day, you just cannot ignore his impact on the music we all love. 3 albums he stood out on for me are Tommy, Quadrophenia and Who’s Next. As for the one song, listen to him on the 10 minute Underture, which follows The Acid Queen on Tommy.
Amen, he might not be the greatest, (He's on my list. ) but he was the most interesting. He probably shouldn't have agreed to do Fiddle About , though.
Pick # 10: Ian Paice - Deep Purple/Whitesnake "Deep Purple in Rock" released on the Harvest Records label in '70 "Deep Purple: Burn" released on the Warner Brothers Records label in '74 "Whitesnake: Saints and Sinners" released on Liberty Records/EMI in '82 Mr. Paice employed enormous Ludwigs from the early 70's to the early 80's. He is left hand dominant and uses the "Matched Grip" method of holding both sticks with palms facing down and the ends of the sticks in "the nest" or the middle of the palm. Ian Paice is the only remaining member of "Deep Purple" still in the band.
No.10…Ginger Baker-Cream,Bind Faith and others. Great drummer of 60s and the 70s. His style of playing is mostly jazz, rock and some progressive elements. He has a bombastic way of drumming, especially for that time period. I think Cream is in the top 5 of 3 piece bands of all time, and Baker plays a big part of that. White Room by Cream live is one of Baker’s best performances.
#10 Stewart Copeland - Favorite performance - WALKING ON THE MOON. This piece illustrates the splendor of Copeland's charm at the kit: subtlety. #11 Mel Gaynor - Simple Minds. Favorite Mel Albums with SM: SPARKLE IN THE RAIN (Probably their heaviest); BIG MUSIC; ONCE UPON A TIME. Favorite drum performance: DON’T YOU (FORGET ABOUT ME). #12 Barriemore Barlow - Jethro Tull #13 Terrance Sullivan - Renaissance #14 Pierre van der Linden - Focus. Favorite Drum Albums: MOVING WAVES; FOCUS 3; FOCUS 12. Favorite performance: HOCUS POCUS. #15 Terry Bozzio - Missing Persons #16 Simon Phillips #17 Danny Gotlieb - Pat Metheny Group…I know he has worked with McLaughlin and others, but I am only familiar with his work with Pat. My favorite albums with Danny: AS FALLS WICHITA, SO FALLS WICHITA FALLS; WATERCOLORS; PAT METHENY GROUP. Favorite drum performance - JACO from PAT METHENY GROUP. #18 Carl Palmer - ELP #19 Keith Moon - The Who: This is tough. Moon, a degenerate in so many ways was also dynamic as a drummer. He was always noticeable! Best drumming albums: QUADROPHENIA; LIVE AT LEEDS, and WHO’S NEXT. Best drumming performance: again, very very difficult, but will go with DON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN. #20 Harold Brown - War: Best drumming albums is tough, they all incorporated Brown’s signature sound. I would say, in the classic era “WHY CAN’T WE BE FRIENDS stood out because of the reggae influences Harold was adding. That album includes a song that would be a top candidate for my War signature song - LOW RIDER. The Signature song for me - the title song from ALL DAY MUSIC. It is a piece where the little things he does really stand out, making their own kind of melody. #21 P.J Wilson - Procol Harum #22 Mick Woodmansey - Bowie and the Spiders from Mars #23 Alex Van Halen #24 Chester Thompson - Genesis #25 Joe Morello - Dave Brubeck Quartet #26 Tommy Taylor - Eric Johnson Band #27 Don Brewer - Grand Funk Railroad #28 Graeme Edge - The Moody Blues #29 Mike Joyce - The Smiths #30 Adam Smith - The 77s
10. Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones) Three signature albums as a percussionist - Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones (1971) Exile on Main St. by the Rolling Stones (1972) Some Girls by the Rolling Stones (1978) Key song - “Dance (Pt. 1)” by the Rolling Stones 11. Scott Asheton 12. Jan Lindh 13. Barriemore Barlow 14. Ed Blackwell 15. Art Blakey 16. Anthony "Abaddon" Bray 17. Billy Cobham 18. Brian Downey 19. Jon Farriss 20. Kevin Haskins 21. Bob Henrit 22. Day 10 My pick today is: Jethro Tull 1 Benefit 2 Aqualung 3 Stand Up Drummer Clive Bunker Songs “Locomotive Breath”,”Aqualung”,”Play in Time”,”We Used to Talk”.
@@melaniethurber5117Awesome pick Melanie ! Clive is one of my all time favorites coming in my top 5. Every song he played on was made better for his skills as a drummer !
10 - John Bonham Hard to narrow anyone in my top 10 to 3 albums but here goes my 3 plus a bit more. Led Zeppelin - IV, Physical Graffiti, Houses of the Holy, and Presence. No Quarter has long been a favorite track but also Custard Pie, Achilles Last Stand, Dazed and Confused are stand outs to me. Can't really have a wrong choice here.
Into the Top 10 with Phil Collins. He gets brickbats from people because of mid 80's Genesis, but he was always an amazing drummer. From Nursery Cryme in 1972 to We Can't Dance in 1991, Phil was the intricate power behind the kit. Add to that a long and successful solo career, guest appearances and with other bands such as Brand X and his own Big Band and we have a massive catalogue to choose from. People sometimes forget just how good a drummer he is, but listen to any of the 70's Genesis albums or the fusion stuff he did with Brand X and you'll hear just how good he is.
Pick 10. Andy parker from UFO. Underrated drummer. Album is Strangers in the night and studio album Obsession. Songs are Pack it up and go . Heavy handed drumming . And the classic song Lights Out
Neil Peart! Rush’s Atomic Time Clock. I mean the. Intro to Tom Sawyer is Total Hammer of the Gods. Just a Zen Master disguised as a Drummer. He is Missed, Fly by Night, 2112, and Moving Pictures.

We are in the top 10 of drummers now, and today my pick goes to the legendary 10. BILL BRUFORD (Yes, King Crimson) Bill has been around with Yes up from the start in 1969, staying with them until their masterpiece „Close To The Edge“ in 1972, but left after the recording of the album to join King Crimson. He would make some more iconic albums and tours with that band as well. Later on, he would join Genesis as their drummer for their „Trick Of The Tail“ tour and do some solo projects, before working with Yes again on their „Union“ album recording and tour. He also re-joined King Crimson several times. Most remarkable albums with Bill are Yes‘ „Yes Album“, „Fragile“, „Close To The Edge“ and King Crimson’s „Red“. Songs: „Heart Of The Sunrise“, „Siberian Khatru“ and „Starless“. 10. Bill Bruford 11. Bill Ward 12. Alan White 13. Mick Tucker 14. Chester Thompson 15. Mel Pritchard 16. Steve Negus 17. Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here (from the snowy Isle of Wight!) My pick today is ROGER TAYLOR, ever-present drummer in Queen (that's 54 years and counting!). A versatile drummer - had to be with all of Queen's different styles - but could really rock out when needed. Albums: Queen II (1974); A Night At The Opera (1975); Innuendo (1991). Showcase track: One Vision - moody opening builds to a powerhouse rocker with Roger and the rest of the band on fire.
My #21 Favorite drummer is Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy. Favorite albums Chinatown, Black Rose, Thunder & Lightning. Favorite song Bad Reputation(live with drum solo)

#10 BILL WARD - BLACK SABBATH. Hi everybody. today to take pick of Bill Ward of Black Sabbath. He also had got into some jazz projects. I had got to see Bill up there on stage with Black Sabbath on the Reunion tour they did back then in 99, The Deftones and Pantera opened. Had gotten shirts of the show. Great to see the show and Bill with his time keeping and great flash kicking drums and the playing behind the great songs and all. The 3 albums will be VOLUME 4... SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH ,,and SABOTAGE. HMS- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath ,, Sabba Cadabra,, Killing Yourself To Live,, Volume 4 --Supernaught.. Under the Sun,,,man oh man so good, Off Sabotage.. Hole In The Sky...Meglomania. ' Wow really love , The ones tie toppers to pick is WHEELOF CONFUSION/THE STRAIGHTNER track so great with drums by Bill. and SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE with that kick ass start and rolling of the drums and the pounding and no 1 with the other no 2. These two solidify BILL WARD and his drumming to me so give the Sabbath music listens and pay attention to Bill and the music of the band. Great choice Pete of Lenny White. Love Hugs and Prayers to Pete /friends here at SOT. Take care and see ya next time. 🎶🎶🥁❤🤗🙏☮
LENNY WHITE - RTF and Stanley Clarke trio. RTF - Where have I known you before, and Song to the Pharaoh Kings; RTF Hym of the Seventh Galaxy - title track, and a slight curve ball from Stanley Clarke Trio, Jazz in the Garden and the Miles Davis penned Solar. I love the production on this album which allows White's playing to shine out in the acoustic set with Clarke's bass and Hiromi Uehara's piano.
Today my pick #10 is Joey Kramer of Aerosmith, I always thought he was an underrated drummer. 3 albums I’m picking are Get your Wings, Toys in the Attic and Rocks, but their are so many albums he performs well on. Song I’m picking and it’s not easy because Aerosmith has lots of good drum performance, it is No More No more my favorite drum performance
#10 for me is Phil Ehart. As a founding member of one the most talented and influential Prog Rock bands in history, Phil, a self-taught drummer created a wide array of different creative approaches. Song for America, The Spider, and Windows re just a few examples of Phil’s talents.

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Another fine SoT selection. Personal pick today? Already mentioned by you and others, the English actor, musician, singer, songwriter & record producer - Mr. Phil Collins. A successful time with Genesis as its drummer and then also its lead vocalist as well as an outstanding solo career. Whether you care for later more pop-oriented Phil or not, his abilities as a drummer should not be denied. Favorite albums for today are Selling England By The Pound [the first Genesis album I ever bought], Foxtrot and A Trick of the Tail. The song? It's a tie between Firth of Fifth [from Selling England] and the single of the title track of his first solo album - In The Air Tonight. A gentleman who has kept me entertained over all these years. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.
We are in the top 10. Number 10 is Mr. Phil Collins of Genesis. Only Genesis albums and no live albums. The albums are Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, and Trick of the Tail. Most of the songs on the earlier albums get honorable mention. The song is Los Endos . I like Dancing with the Moonlit Knight and The Battle of Epping Forest a lot.
My pick today is under the radar Paul Thompson of Roxy Music. Solid steady groove and pocket and throws in tasty fills occasionally that serve the song. I love his kick drum patterns that can be bouncy and funky at times. Rarely do drummers give this guy props and it's probably imo cause he's not flashy and doesn't draw attention to himself. I'm here to give him some love! His drums always sound great on record too. Siren- killer drums throughout Country Life For Your Pleasure Stand out tracks - Out of the Blue, Grey Lagoons, Whirlwind, Both Ends Burning, 2HB, She Sells Webb in ATL

Greg Errico / Sly + Family Stone drummer . He played on all the big hits . And that little gig at Woodstock 1969." All we need is a DRUMMER ".... from Dance to the Music . . . .
Good one going with Lenny White Pick number 10 While he tends to play for the song just like Charlie Watts and Ringo also: He's not flashy but he's excellent at what he does it is Mick Fleetwood Albums Then play on Mystery to me Tusk However song performances showing his excellent drumming I will go to the rumors album for the classic dreams his playing is just great the touches he puts down nothing flashy And whether it's live or from the 1975 Buckingham nicks joining White album as they call it world turning The one thing I've always admired is how he plays with feeling he doesn't play in the technical way But he has an excellent feel for the song Also notable this is drum work on Lindsey Buckingham solo hit Trouble
In no particular order, my pick of the day is on of my very favorites, Scott Rockenfield, formerly of Queensryche. Such a unique drummer, with his own style, which I love. I'm not a drummer, so I'm not going to attempt to get technical, but some guys I enjoy more than others. A couple of my favorite tracks are Take Hold of the Flame and Walk in the Shadows. 10. Scott Rockenfield** - Queensryche (Take Hold of the Flame ; Walk in the Shadows)
11. Michael Miley** - Rival Sons (Too Bad / Pressure & Time) 12. Peter Criss - KISS (Black Diamond / Room Service) 13. Frank Beard - ZZ Top (Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings / Heard It On the X) 14. James Kottak - Kingdom Come/Scorpions (Pushin' Hard ; Hour 1) 29. Artimus Pyle - Lynryd Skynyrd (Saturday Night Special ; Gimme Back My Bulletins 30. Andy Parker - UFO (Doctor Doctor ; Rock Bottom)
Marvin Smitty Smith and Mark Mondesir I got turned on to the music of Kevin Eubanks back in the 90s. People know him from The Tonight Show, but I think his album output is really under appreciated. It’s like prog folk jazz that seems to be influenced by bands like Oregon and Shakti. Smith and Mondesir are the drummers who typically play on the albums. These tunes are so angular and with bizarre phrasing and time signatures, that it boggles my mind that these two are able to play and solo everything so effortlessly. Check out the albums Turning Point Spirit Talk Spirit Talk 2: Revelations Zen Food And check out the tunes: The Dancing Sea Initiation Pt. 3 New World Order Earth Party
Day 10 pick is Rob Bachman. Albums are BTO I. BTO II and Not Fragile. Favorite songs are Gimme Your Money Please. Let It Ride. 4 Wheel Drive and Not Fragile.
My pick #10 is Lee Kerslake ( Uriah Heep, Ozzy Osbourne ). I´ve never heard anything from or about Lenny White. I bet he´s an amazing drummer, but I don´t know anything about him.
Still got the gremlins with not allowing me to reply to your individual posts here, thank you to all of you for your good wishes. It means a lot. Hopefully back to normal tomorrow. Jerry
Cheers Pete. Lenny White is in my picks. Venusian Summer is great. Of course all the RTF albums. I like No Mystery a lot but Romantic Warrior stands alone at the top.
Good choice Gary, Good seeing all in chat, I don't know who saw me in there. Didn't get a hello don't see after it started. Today seemed kind of rushed in at last minute showing up for folks. Have a great day friend
Love Lenny! Pete, a track you might also want to check out, if you haven't already, is 12 Bars From Mars from his Streamline album. Heavy guitar riffs abound and I think you will appreciate - you can youtube it - cheers!

I couldnt find your song on utube but i did find 2 songs one of them had harmonica and the other just had the singer speak at the beginning. I liked the harmonica song better.
Morning / Afternoon / Evening everyone, and straight in with my pick #21 for drummer month. My guy today is a German gentleman, and, in case we weren't aware of this, his 2nd solo album reminded us of the fact in no uncertain terms... HERMAN "Ze German" RAREBELL of SCORPIONS He joined the German legends for their 1977 album Taken By Force and was with them throughout their glory years of the 80's. Picking 3 albums is a relatively straightforward task for once as, apart from those couple of solo albums (entertaining but not essential, I would say) he did only a very little outside of his main band. My 3 albums, therefore, will be the post-Uli Roth holy trinity of... Lovedrive (1979) Animal Magnetism (1980) Blackout (1982) My track of choice will be "Rock You Like A Hurricane" from Love At First Sting, not only for his drumming but because he co-wrote the number, as he did many of the band's other classics, including Make It Real (the first Scorps song I ever heard I believe), Arizona, Loving You Sunday Morning, Blackout etc, proving he was more than just the guy sat at the back hitting the kit...
Awesome pick Iain! I had Hermann Erbel (his real name...) earlier this month, and the same albums choice. Rock You Like a Hurricane is a terrific pick, might be my favourite Scorps song, tied with The Zoo
I've heard a couple of the Romantic Warrior albums. Good stuff!! My #10: Going with the 2nd drummer of a great 70s rock band. Sadly, none of the original members are around anymore, but the music certainly lives on, and this guy is a great drummer. Talking about Artimus Pyle from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Albums: Second Helping, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors Song: That Smell
My favorite top 30 Drummers of All Time Pick #10 Martin Chambers(The Pretenders) #30 Frank Beard(ZZ Top) "Tres Hombres" & "Eliminator" #29 Larry Tolfree(Joe Jackson) "Night and Day" & "Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive" #28 Mick Woodmansey(David Bowie) "...Ziggy Stardust" & "The Man Who Sold the World" #27 Jim Hodder(Steely Dan) "Can't Buy a Thrill" & "Countdown to Ecstasy" #26 Denny Carmassi(Heart) "Passionworks" & "Heart" #25 Anders Johansson(Yngwie Malmsteen) "Marching out" & "Trilogy" #24 Carlton Barrett(Bob Marley) "Rastaman Vibration" & "Exodus" #23 Mick Fleetwood(Fleetwood Mac) "Mystery to Me" & "Fleetwood Mac" #22 Russ Kunkel(Warren Zevon & Jackson Browne) "Excitable Boy" & "Running on Empty" #21 Myron Grombacher(Pat Benatar) "Precious Time" & "Crimes of Passion" #20 Steve "Grizzly" Nesbitt(Steel Pulse) "True Democracy" & "Reggae Greats" #19 Stewart Copeland(Police) "Ghost in the Machine" & "Synchronicity" #18 Phil Taylor(Motorhead) "Another Perfect Day" & "Motorhead" #17 Bobby Rondinelli(Rainbow ) "Difficult to Cure" & "Straight Between the Eyes" #16 Kenney Jones(The Who) "Face Dances" #15 Vinnie Appice(Dio) "The Last in Line" & "Holy Diver" #14 Scott Rockenfield(Queensryche) "The Warning" & "Rage for Order" #13 Michael Derosier(Heart) "Bebe le Strange" & "Little Queen" #12 Jan Uvena(Alcatrazz) "Disturbing the Peace" & "No Parole from Rock 'n' Roll" #11 Nicko McBrain "Piece of Mind" & " Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" #10 Martin Chambers(The Pretenders) "Pretenders" & "Learning to Crawl"
Great pick peter
Amen, he might not be the greatest, (He's on my list. ) but he was the most interesting. He probably shouldn't have agreed to do Fiddle About , though.
Pick # 10: Ian Paice - Deep Purple/Whitesnake
"Deep Purple in Rock" released on the Harvest Records label in '70
"Deep Purple: Burn" released on the Warner Brothers Records label in '74
"Whitesnake: Saints and Sinners" released on Liberty Records/EMI in '82
Mr.
Great picks and story metal
10. Stewart Copeland
Outlandos d'Amour, Regatta de Blanc, Synchronicity
Message In A Bottle
#10 Stewart Copeland - Favorite performance - WALKING ON THE MOON. This piece illustrates the splendor of Copeland's charm at the kit: subtlety.
#11 Mel Gaynor - Simple Minds. Favorite Mel Albums with SM: SPARKLE IN THE RAIN (Probably their heaviest); BIG MUSIC; ONCE UPON A TIME. Favorite drum performance: DON’T YOU (FORGET ABOUT ME).
#12 Barriemore Barlow - Jethro Tull
#13 Terrance Sullivan - Renaissance
#14 Pierre van der Linden - Focus. Favorite Drum Albums: MOVING WAVES; FOCUS 3; FOCUS 12. Favorite performance: HOCUS POCUS.
#15 Terry Bozzio - Missing Persons
#16 Simon Phillips
#17 Danny Gotlieb - Pat Metheny Group…I know he has worked with McLaughlin and others, but I am only familiar with his work with Pat. My favorite albums with Danny: AS FALLS WICHITA, SO FALLS WICHITA FALLS; WATERCOLORS; PAT METHENY GROUP. Favorite drum performance - JACO from PAT METHENY GROUP.
#18 Carl Palmer - ELP
#19 Keith Moon - The Who: This is tough.
#21 P.J Wilson - Procol Harum
#22 Mick Woodmansey - Bowie and the Spiders from Mars

10. Jeff Porcaro
My pick for today is, John Bonham
Led Zeppelin (1969)

10. BILL BRUFORD (Yes, King Crimson)
Bill has been around with Yes up from the start in 1969, staying with them until their masterpiece „Close To The Edge“ in 1972, but left after the recording of the album to join King Crimson.

' Wow really love ,
The ones tie toppers to pick is WHEELOF CONFUSION/THE STRAIGHTNER track so great with drums by Bill. and SYMPTOM OF THE UNIVERSE with that kick ass start and rolling of the drums and the pounding and no 1 with the other no 2.

@@melaniethurber5117 Good morning, Melanie and thanks.
@@FrankLang-i3n Thank you, Frank.
Siren- killer drums throughout

Jim Bonfanti (Raspberries) Great drumming on Tonight and Ecstacy

While he tends to play for the song just like Charlie Watts and Ringo also:
He's not flashy but he's excellent at what he does it is Mick Fleetwood

Then play on
Mystery to me
Tusk
However song performances showing his excellent drumming I will go to the rumors album for the classic dreams his playing is just great the touches he puts down nothing flashy
And whether it's live or from the 1975 Buckingham nicks joining White album as they call it world turning
The one thing I've always admired is how he plays with feeling he doesn't play in the technical way
But he has an excellent feel for the song
Also notable this is drum work on Lindsey Buckingham solo hit Trouble

Marvin Smitty Smith and Mark Mondesir
I got turned on to the music of Kevin Eubanks back in the 90s. Check out the albums

My pick #10 is Lee Kerslake ( Uriah Heep, Ozzy Osbourne ). I´ve never heard anything from or about Lenny White. I bet he´s an amazing drummer, but I don´t know anything about him.
Queen's Roger Taylor today.
Just a quick post today for my nomination as I have a hospital appointment for a CT Scan. So my nomination today is AINSLEY DUNBAR.
Hi Jerry, cool pick - hope everything goes smoothly with the scan.
The best of health. Jerry 👍💯
Great pick Jerry, hope everything's fine!
Hi Jerry. Good luck today. Awesome pick.

Jerry

Today my oick Alex Van Halen
Morning / Afternoon / Evening everyone, and straight in with my pick #21 for drummer month. My guy today is a German gentleman, and, in case we weren't aware of this, his 2nd solo album reminded us of the fact in no uncertain terms...
HERMAN "Ze German" RAREBELL of SCORPIONS
He joined the German legends for their 1977 album Taken By Force and was with them throughout their glory years of the 80's. Picking 3 albums is a relatively straightforward task for once as, apart from those couple of solo albums (entertaining but not essential, I would say) he did only a very little outside of his main band. My 3 albums, therefore, will be the post-Uli Roth holy trinity of...
Lovedrive (1979)
Animal Magnetism (1980)
Blackout (1982)
My track of choice will be "Rock You Like A Hurricane" from Love At First Sting, not only for his drumming but because he co-wrote the number, as he did many of the band's other classics, including Make It Real (the first Scorps song I ever heard I believe), Arizona, Loving You Sunday Morning, Blackout etc, proving he was more than just the guy sat at the back hitting the kit...
Awesome pick Iain! I had Hermann Erbel (his real name...) earlier this month, and the same albums choice. Rock You Like a Hurricane is a terrific pick, might be my favourite Scorps song, tied with The Zoo
@@iainhead9898 hi Iain. Interesting article and picks I don’t know.

Song: That Smell
