7. Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience) There's a load of groundbreaking classic rock drummers who didn't make my top list because they just didn't embed themselves in my soul like Mitch Mitchell. His swing, dark and light textures and pretty innovative patterns when it comes to heavy psychedelic songs probably inspired thousands of kids to take up the kit. "Third Stone From the Sun." The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? (1967) The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love (1967) The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland (1968)
7- Ian Paice The eternal drummer of Deep Purple, which was my first Hard Rock band I heard. I always remember listening to “The Mule” solo on Made in Japan. In the studio he recorded “In Rock”, “Fireball” and “Machine Head”. Fundamental trilogy from the early 70s. My Favorite 30 Drummers Of All Time7- Ian Paice 8- Mich Mitchell 9- Nicko McBrain 10- Chad Smith 11- Ginger Baker 12- Stewart Copeland 13- Phil Collins 14- Dave Grohl 15- Stephen Perkins 16- Topper Headon 17-Black Amaya 18- Bill Bruford 19- Lars Ulrich 20- Dave Lombardo 21- Carl Palmer 22- Neil Peart 23- Ringo Starr 24- Tony Williams 25- Tony Allen 26- D.J. Fontana 27- Steven Adler 28- Moe Tucker 29- Gene Krupa 30- Vinnie Colaiuta
Billy Cobham Lately, it’s been my opinion that Cobham is the greatest drummer ever. I feel like he is the person who set the template for contemporary drumming. Favorite tracks of his abilities are: The Noonward Race Vital Transformation Quadrant 4 Spectrum Red Clay (from California Concert) And so many others, but I’ll stick with these for now.
#7 for me is Gene Krupa: Jazz/Big Band drummer Gene Krupa has been given the credit for first drummer to play a drum kit as we know it today, including tunable snares and tom-toms. During his drum solos he would also incorporate “stick-tricks” to add an element of showmanship. Everyone knows him from the Benny Goodman song, “Sing, Sing, Sing,” whether you know who the drummer is or not.
# 7 - Bill Bruford. My favorite drumming album - THE YES ALBUM. I recall listening to it in high school - with headphones - and marveling out how versatile the playing was with a smaller kit. The only thing separating Bill from climbing higher - I never saw him as a power drummer...melodic and attention getting - absolutely!
Pick #7: Sir Richard Starkey/ Ringo Starr Beatles: "Seargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band released on Capitol Records in '67. Beatles: " Revolver" also on Capitol in '67 Ringo Starr: "Goodnight Vienna" released on Apple Records in '74. Drummer Phil Collins admires Ringo's complex rhythms and technical precision. Rolling Stone voted him 5th best rock drummer of all time some time ago. But I think it is Mr Starkey's incalculable cultural influence on rock and roll drumming in the both the U.K. and in 1964, the U.S.A. Countless youths have picked up the sticks because of Mr. Ringo Starr. For that alone, he deserves to be up here at #7. Peace and love, Ringo!
My favorite top 30 Drummers of All Time Pick #7 Bill Ward #30 Frank Beard(ZZ Top) "Tres Hombres" & "Eliminator" #29 Larry Tolfree(Joe Jackson) "Night and Day" & "Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive" #28 Mick Woodmansey(David Bowie) "...Ziggy Stardust" & "The Man Who Sold the World" #27 Jim Hodder(Steely Dan) "Can't Buy a Thrill" & "Countdown to Ecstasy" #26 Denny Carmassi(Heart) "Passionworks" & "Heart" #25 Anders Johansson(Yngwie Malmsteen) "Marching out" & "Trilogy" #24 Carlton Barrett(Bob Marley) "Rastaman Vibration" & "Exodus" #23 Mick Fleetwood(Fleetwood Mac) "Mystery to Me" & "Fleetwood Mac" #22 Russ Kunkel(Warren Zevon & Jackson Browne) "Excitable Boy" & "Running on Empty" #21 Myron Grombacher(Pat Benatar) "Precious Time" & "Crimes of Passion" #20 Steve "Grizzly" Nesbitt(Steel Pulse) "True Democracy" & "Reggae Greats" #19 Stewart Copeland(Police) "Ghost in the Machine" & "Synchronicity" #18 Phil Taylor(Motorhead) "Another Perfect Day" & "Motorhead" #17 Bobby Rondinelli(Rainbow ) "Difficult to Cure" & "Straight Between the Eyes" #16 Kenney Jones(The Who) "Face Dances" #15 Vinnie Appice(Dio) "The Last in Line" & "Holy Diver" #14 Scott Rockenfield(Queensryche) "The Warning" & "Rage for Order" #13 Michael Derosier(Heart) "Bebe le Strange" & "Little Queen" #12 Jan Uvena(Alcatrazz) "Disturbing the Peace" & "No Parole from Rock 'n' Roll" #11 Nicko McBrain "Piece of Mind" & " Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" #10 Martin Chambers(The Pretenders) "Pretenders" & "Learning to Crawl" #9 Clive Burr "Killers" & "Iron Maiden" #8 Jeff Porcaro (Toto & Boz Scaggs) "Hydra" & "Down Two Then Left" #7 Bill Ward "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" & "Heaven and Hell"
My friend and I just saw an internet entry crediting Cozy Powell for playing on Heaven & Hell and we have always suspected that Ward isn't actually the drummer on that album, it just doesn't sound like the Ward of the 70s. It does really sound like Cozy, either. Who knows?

My pick #7 is Nicko McBrain ( Iron Maiden ). I know Steve Smith by name, but I haven´t consciously listened to his drum work. Sure I´ve listened to Journey, but I´ve never listened specifically to the drumming when I´ve listened to Journey.
Great pick, Pete! Day 7 pick is Bill Ward of Black Sabbath. Albums are Black Sabbath. Paranoid and IV. Favorite songs are Behind The Wall Of Sleep. Supernaut and Sweet Leaf
@@christophercoles4401 Exactly what I feel Chris. I think though his profile for that sort of 'coffee table' pop/rock sometimes overshadows his excellent drumming skills. (Mind you a few of his solo singles are guilty pleasures for me)
Hi everyone, hope our weekends are going well! Pick number 24 today, short and sweet as I have a busy day ahead so don't know when I'll post this, so straight in with... STEVE SMITH of JOURNEY 3 albums: Departure - JOURNEY Frontiers - JOURNEY The Storm - THE STORM (when is a Journey album not a Journey album...?) Tracks - "Escape" from, well, Escape obviously, & "Come In From The Rain" by Y&T from their album Ten
7. Neil Peart - The reason I picked up a pair of sticks. The first half of Rush's run is marked by brilliant beat construction. Album picks are Signals, Hemispheres, and Moving Pictures. Track pick is The Weapon, a low key difficult drum part if there ever was one
Jazz world largely ignored ; Tony Williams great choice ; but I understand this list is mainly Rock ; thats fine ; but the exclusion of Jim Gordon is glaring ; Tragic story but he was certainly one of the all time greats . He was Jeff Porcaro's favorite .
My pick # 7 is a drummer who is a real presence in every song he has played on. He's been compared to Keith Moon. None other than Clem Burke of Blondie. The albums are Blondie, Plastic Letters, and Eat to the Beat. The song is Dreaming. The band recorded a song, he inserted a drum solo.
Excellent choice, Pete. The rest is in some kind of order: 7) Clive Bunker Albums; Benefit Aqualung Stand Up Songs: Aqualung To Cry You a Song Locomotive Breath Play In Time We Used to Know 7) Clive Bunker 8) Ian Paice 9) Charlie Watts 10) Andy Parker 11) Clive Burr 12) Levon Helm 13) Jason Bonham 14) Keith Moon 15) Nick Mason 16) Nicko McBrain 17) Tommy Aldridge 18) Max Weinberg 19) John Panozzo 20) Doug Clifford 21) Joey Kramer 22) Carmine Appice 23) Vinny Appice 24) Alex Van Halen 25) Ginger Baker 26) Roger Taylor 27) Kenny Aronoff 28) Steve Smith 29) Dylan Sevey 30) Jeff Porcaro
@@weirddebbiem1619 hi Debbie. Superb picks. Also the albums and songs. We’ve got matches on everything you post here. You have three albums that I’ve posted before and four songs that I’ve posted.
@@weirddebbiem1619 you’re welcome Debbie. Now we have 14 matches and still two I haven’t posted yet and who knows by the rest of this week. This is getting to unreal here that we’re getting so many matches. I had to fix my first reply to you we both have all three of the albums and four of the songs.
Pick number 7, Senad Begović, drummer of Formula 4 and Teška industrija (their first drummer, from 1974 to 1976). Hard rock acts, teška industrija in earlier prriod with hints of prog rock. Singl with song UFO, released in 1975 and album Ho-ruk, released in 1976, song Koncert tročinski.
Great choice those Journey albums with Steve Smith are killer my pick for today is Nigel Olson from Elton Johns Band 1)Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 2)tumbleweed connection 3)Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player song Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting

Carmine Appice - Picked on day#25 6. Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater/Neal Morse Band/Flying Colors/The Winery Dogs 7. Phil[ip] Collins (I don't like the singer but what a drummer, check his work in the jazz-fusion band Brand X in the '70s) 8. Paul Riddle - The Marshall Tucker Band 9. Keith Moon🪦- The Who 10. Jon Hiseman🪦- Colosseum (I & II) / Tempest 11. Don Brewer - Grand Funk Railroad / Bob Seger 12. Matt Abts - Gov't Mule 13. Brian Downey - Thin Lizzy {listed by Peter} 14. John Bonham🪦- U know! 15. Peter "Ginger" Baker 🪦- Graham Bond / Cream / Baker Gurvitz Army / Blind Faith / G.B Air Force / BBM 24. Ian Paice - Deep Purple for more than 50 years, remaining the last original member / Whitesnake / G. Moore and various guest appearances. Pick #8
My 7th favorite drummer (loosely ordered) is Terry Bozzio Sheik Yerbouti (Frank Zappa - 1979) Spring Session M (Missing Persons - 1982) Shampoohorn (Z - 1994)
Pick #7: Pierre Van der Linden 8. Phil Collins 9. John Weathers 10. Gene Krupa 11. Chris Slade 12. Ringo Starr 13. Louie Bellson 14. Cesar Zuiderwijk 15. Steve Gadd 16. Trilok Gurtu 17. Barriemore Barlow 29. Ginger Baker 30. Mitch Mitchell
Someone smarter than me needs to make a meme of Pete's airdrumming at the beginning of this video. I am really enjoying these monthly entries, as always.
7. Joe Morello I'll take Joe's feel over Buddy's bluster any day of the week. In the early days of the Brubeck quartet, Paul Desmond once told Dave: "I refuse to play with that clown." Brubeck told him in no uncertain terms that he either played with Morello or he could f**k off. Track: Blue Rondo a la Turk
#7...Carl Palmer, Emerson Lake and Palmer. I think one of the most under appreciated drumming on a hit song is Carl's work on Lucky Man. The tone, touch and technique he employs is just perfect. He is brilliant on all of ELP's albums, and I pick Trilogy, Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery as his 3 best. As for one performance, I've always loved Tank from the debut album. Greg and Keith are both gone, but Carl is still kicking out their music with a new band. Rock on, Carl.
My #7 pick Is an American musician who is primarily known as the drummer, backing vocalist, and co-founder of the progressive metal band Dream Theater. I'm talking about Mike Portnoy. Albums- Images and Words(DreamTheater), Nightmare (Avenged Sevenfold whichisthefirstalbum i heard from him being on drums and i nevernew dream theater until i heard my pickfor today) Metropolis II: Scenes From a Memory(Dream Theater) Song- Pull Me Under (the first song I heard from Dream Theater. I was like woah who's this band and I started to listen to more dream theater like another day and 6:00.)
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. Missed yesterday (internet & weather problems), so my double pick today is a pair of Yes drummers, BILL BRUFORD and ALAN WHITE. A contrast in styles, with Bill's subtle jazziness against Alan White's more muscular rock approach. Bill's albums (all Yes): The Yes Album; Fragile; Close To The Edge. Showcase track: Survival. Alan's albums (all Yes): Relayer; Going For The One; Talk. Showcase track: Instant Karma (John Lennon).
@@melaniethurber5117 It's the Isle of Wight, a resort island off the south coast of England, and I have an apartment there. I was there this weekend because we had our annual residents meeting, but I go down there every month. Yesterday, we had a big storm, and I couldn't go out to the local seaside pub where I can get on the internet. Back in London now.
@ I figured that was where you had gone. Sorry about the storm and loss of internet connection though. I just a matter of time before I get a storm here in New England part of the USA. I don’t like the snow.
Pick number 7. Danny Carey. Like most drummers mentioned by everybody this month, he's known for his "day job", this time with Tool, but he's also played with artists/bands as diverse as Skinny Puppy, Adrian Belew, Carole King, Meat Puppets and The Melvins. He will be touring with Primus, following the departure of Tim "Herb" Alexander. Heavily influenced by Neil Peart, Danny is one of the best drummers around at the moment. His polyrhythms and odd time signatures make Tool's abstract prog metal interesting to hear. Recommendations? Any of the Tool albums, obviously. Ænima, Lateralus, 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum all display his incredible talents.
Picks #7,7,8,9,9,10 Tony Williams Albums: Emergency!(1969), Turn It Over(1970) with guitar master John McLaughlin, Believe It(1975) with Alan Holdsworth on guitar. Song: Going with Pete’s pick of “Vashkar”. Amazing playing here from Mr Williams. Billy Cobham Albums: with The Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame(1971), Birds of Fire(1973) & The Lost Trident Sessions(1973) released(1999). Song: “Noonward Race”. Billy plays so mind bindingly fast on drums. I had to put these two great drummers on the same line(cheating just a bit Lol). Ian Paice Albums: With Deep Purple - In Rock(1970), Fireball(1971) & Machine Head(1972). Song: “Pictures of Home”. I got to see Mark lll Deep Purple In 1974. Richie Blackmore and Ian Paice were the memorable standouts for me. Charlie Watts Albums: Aftermath(1966), Let It Bleed(1969) & Sticky Fingers(1971) Songs: “Paint It Black”, “Sympathy For the Devil” live from Get Your Ya Ya’s Out with Charlie on the cover. “Sway” has the most incredible fills of any drummer on any song in my opinion. Saw him in 1989 twice…what a fine sound he made !! One of two of my favorite pure Rock & Roll drummers. With this next guy…(cheating again !!) Ringo Starr Albums: Revolver(1966), Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band(1967) & The White Album(1968). Ringo is so in the pocket good on all the albums by The Beatles. Basically this was the soundtrack of my childhood. Songs: “Ticket To Ride”, “Birthday” & “The End”. Bill Bruford Albums: The Yes Album(1971), Fragile(1971) & Close To the Edge(1972). Song: “Perpetual Change” from Yessongs(1973). This is a magnificent performance with tight snare drum rolls(his specialty) and a gorgeous solo at the end. Bill also played well with King Crimson on albums like Red(1974). My pick for Pete’s top 3 Cozy Powell, Neil Peart & John Bonham…hard to pick the other three.. Keith Moon, Ginger Baker and Mitch Mitchell…maybe I think ??? 7. Tony Williams & Billy Cobham 8. Ian Paice 9. Charlie Watts & Ringo Starr 10. Bill Bruford 11. Cozy Powell 12. Elvin Jones 13. Spencer Dryden 14. Neil Peart 15. Micky Waller 16. Jim Gordon 17. Carl Palmer 18. Don Brewer 19. Jerry Shirley 20. Danny Seraphine 21. Carmine Appice 22. Phil Ehart 23. Kenny Jones 24. Michael Shrieve 25. Doug Clifford 26. Alex Van Halen 27. Peter Criss 28. Buddy Rich 29. Gene Krupa 30. Jamoe & Butch Trucks

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Another great SoT selection. Personal pick today? An American rock drummer with a long discography [please see Wikipedia] but introduced to me early as a member of Vanilla Fudge, Mr. Carmine Appice. Some other notable bands/groups - Beck, Bogart, Appice; Cactus; and King Kobra. Another one of those drummers introduced to me early on [age 11 to 13] due to the oft-mentioned older brother not only playing the Vanilla Fudge debut a lot but and also due to the summer that he played the side long Break Song from the Fudge's Near The Beginning LP every day. Each of the four members of the band are introduced in that song so Carmine's name was drilled into memory. Favorite albums? The Vanilla Fudge eponymous debut, the blasted Near The Beginning and Cactus' eponymous debut. Favorite song? The first one heard over AM radio very early on and is part of the personal music DNA - the Fudge's cover of You Keep Me Hangin' On [sometimes titled You Keep Me Hanging On]. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.
Hi everybody. Hope we're all enjoying a nice weekend. I suspect that despite the awful weather my friend Mr Head and I enjoyed our Saturday evening rather a lot. I digress my pick today is arguably the most iconic of heavy/hard rock drummers and often tops fan polls and is also often sited as the greatest by his peers. A one band man in terms of his recording career, the mighty JOHN BONHAM. Bonzo was arguably also the first of the truly great rock showman drummers his profile almost on the same level as his guitarist and singer especially in the live arena. Led Zeppelin's recorded works also had a big sounding bottom end to give Bonzo's drums plenty of prominence, but for all his reputation as a bombastic powerhouse he was also required to play with groove and subtlety witness the 2nd vinyl side of Led Zeppelin 3. Of course the band's sonic pallette broadened further as they went along. Fave Bonzo albums, Led Zeppelin II, The Untitled, Physical Graffiti. Fave performance. Well there are so many, Moby Dick is I guess the obvious choice, but I'll pick 2 from Physical Graffiti, In My Time of Dying, a blistering performance and Trampled Underfoot, showing how comfortable Bonzo was playing something more funky.
Hi Jerry, down on the South Coast for the weekend and must admit the wind today nearly did to me what we did to Man City on Saturday! Didn't see it live and checked the resukt with trembling fingers, then had to pinch myself! Obviously, excellent pick too!
Great drummer!! Saw him with Journey in 2014 & 2016, and he was awesome!! My #7: Going with the drummer of one of the biggest bands of all time. Not a wild man, but he's great at what he does. Talking about Ringo Starr from The Beatles. Albums: Rubber Soul, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road Song: Golden Slumbers Medley
Pick 7: Mike Clarke Favourite Albums: 1) Herbie Hancock - Thrust (1974) 2) Alphonso Johnson - Yesterdays Dreams (1976) 3) Herbie Hancock - Man Child (1975) 7) Mike Clarke 8) Narada Michael Walden 9) Al Foster 10) Chester Thompson 11) Gerry Brown 12) Tony Williams 13) Billy Hart 14) Simon Kirke 15) John Bonham 16) Alphonse Mouzon 17) Omar Hakim 18) Terry Bozzio 19) Peter Erskine 20) Jimmy Cobb 21) Maurice White 22) Jack Dejohnnete 23) Jeff Pocaro 24) Alan White 25) Tiki Fulwood 26) Richard Bailey 27) Harvey Mason 28) Ralph Johnson 29) Don Henley 30) Yoshikuza Ogawa
#7 The most influential master of the origin that is my favorite genre of music. Progressive Metal. This guy's playing style and patterns is in all of the great p metal drummers. I love this bands 1970s output, they fall off for me personally; after 1981 . Based on the 70's though. He has to the on the list best and most influential drummers. He had to be on most people list for a reason. Of course, He's Neil Peart Exit Stage Left Hemispheres A Farewell to kings (Performance) Cinderella Man This song was basically a show and tell for the virtuoso that was Peart and is Geddy...and obviously Tom Sawyer, he bludgeons you for the majority of the track. It's in the last 50 seconds of the song however! That his genius is undeniable. #8 Dave Lombardo Reign In Blood South Of Heaven Testament- The Gathering (Performance) Angel of Death #9 Billy Hart Pharaoh sanders, Karma, 1969 Enhance,1977 The Trio with Walter Bishop Jr And George Mraz,1982 Performance The creator has a master plan
My pick for day # 24 goes to a man who is around for a very long time and still active, 7. NICK MASON, Pink Floyd Nick is the only band member who has played on every album of this legendary band, which started in the middle of the 60s. He always has been able and versatile to play several styles, like psychedelic rock, prog, pop, jazz and classic. When I think about the best of Nick’s playing, Floyd’s concert movie at Pompeii (1972) comes to mind. His playing on the piece “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” is superb. Of course, he was great on “One Of These Days” and “Echoes” there too. The most remarkable albums with Nick in my opinion are “Atom Heart Mother”, “Meddle”, “The Dark Side Of The Moon” and “Wish You Were Here”. More songs worth a mention are “On The Run”, “Time” and “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” (both parts). Besides his drumming, Nick also has added tape effects to the music here and there. After Pink Floyd have disbanded, Nick has put together his own band “Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets”, touring with them since 2018. Having turned 80 this January, he’s been still active and on tour later this year. May he continue, as long as he is at good health and loves what he does. 07. Nick Mason 08. Lee Kerslake 09. Roger Taylor 10. Bill Bruford 11. Bill Ward 12. Alan White 13. Mick Tucker 14. Chester Thompson 15. Mel Pritchard 16. Steve Negus 17. Chris Slade 18. Ringo Starr 19. Simon Kirke 20. Dennis Elliott 21. Russell Gilbrook 22. Don Henley 23. Phil Ehart 24. Nigel Olsson 25. Don Brewer 26. Graeme Edge 27. Charlie Watts 28. Bev Bevan 29. Bob Siebenberg 30. Clive Bunker
@@ziggyzagzi8017 Yes, they were, Ziggy... though at David's "Remember That Night" concert it was Richard Wright who supported him. Nick hasn't been there. (I have the DVD, it was a brilliant concert)
Pick #7 - Igor Cavalera, Sepultura - Crazy-good rhythms that I'd still run through a brick wall for. The relentless "Beneath the Remains" album is a great place to start.
Today my pick #7 is Stewart Copeland of the Police. 3 albums I’m picking are Reggetta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine. Song imo is his best drum performance is Walking on the moon
Carlton Barrett My favorite non-rock drummer. "The pulse of an entire movement." He thought backwards. In demand late 60's session guy who popularized One Drop beat. Great rock steady and ska guy who through Lee "Scratch" Perry met Bob Marley & the Wailers and history made. All the hits and vast majority of non-hits excellent examples such as Zion Train, Roots Rock Reggae, and Them Belly Full.
Steve Smith would have been in my top 25 but I don't think I would rate him as high as #7. For an album I would have actually recommended a DVD: Concert With Class from Frank Gambale.
7. Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience)
There's a load of groundbreaking classic rock drummers who didn't make my top list because they just didn't embed themselves in my soul like Mitch Mitchell. His swing, dark and light textures and pretty innovative patterns when it comes to heavy psychedelic songs probably inspired thousands of kids to take up the kit. "Third Stone From the Sun."
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? (1967)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love (1967)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland (1968)
7- Ian Paice
The eternal drummer of Deep Purple, which was my first Hard Rock band I heard. I always remember listening to “The Mule” solo on Made in Japan. In the studio he recorded “In Rock”, “Fireball” and “Machine Head”. Fundamental trilogy from the early 70s.

Lately, it’s been my opinion that Cobham is the greatest drummer ever. I feel like he is the person who set the template for contemporary drumming.
Favorite tracks of his abilities are:
The Noonward Race
Vital Transformation
Quadrant 4
Spectrum
Red Clay (from California Concert)
And so many others, but I’ll stick with these for now.
Agree. Colossus of the drum world. Still doing it with his drum and voice series.
#7 Bill Bruford
Albums: Close to the Edge, Larks Tongues in Aspic, U.K.
Song: Heart of the Sunrise
Great pick Kamran.
Nice pick Kamran. Mine too.
Clive Burr The greatest NWOBHM drummer
Those three Maiden albums
Song: Hallowed Be Thy Name
Vinny Appice

Pick #7: Sir Richard Starkey/ Ringo Starr
Beatles: "Seargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band released on Capitol Records in '67.
Beatles: " Revolver" also on Capitol in '67
Ringo Starr: "Goodnight Vienna" released on Apple Records in '74.

My pick for Day 24 (#7 in my countdown)
Keith Moon (The Who)
#7 Phil Ehart from Kansas, fav albums: debut, Leftoverture, and Point of Know Return, honorable mention, Audio Visions, love that album.
@@damon7956 hi Damon. Awesome picks
Excellent pick, Damon. i went with Phil a few days ago. I agree about Audio Visions.
Vinnie Colaiuta
No explanation needed
My 7th favorite drummer (loosely ordered) is Terry Bozzio
Sheik Yerbouti (Frank Zappa - 1979)
Spring Session M (Missing Persons - 1982)
Shampoohorn (Z - 1994)
Great pick GWTS he did great for Zappa.

7. Elvin Jones ... Wayne Shorter "Juju" (1965) -- Thad Jones "Vol 3" (1956) -- John Coltrane "Coltrane's Sound" -- Bill Evans & Stan Getz (1964) -- Joe Henderson "Inner Urge" (1966) -- Sonny Rollins "East Broadway Run Down" (1966) -- Art Farmer "Farmer's Market" (1958)
Someone smarter than me needs to make a meme of Pete's airdrumming at the beginning of this video. I am really enjoying these monthly entries, as always.
7. Steve Smith
Escape, Departure, Frontiers
“Don’t Stop Believin’” - sure,…overplayed, but his inventive drumming is genius.
7. Joe Morello
I'll take Joe's feel over Buddy's bluster any day of the week.
Terrific pick & write up, Peter. On my list too.
Steve kicked butt on the Champion album by Jeff Berlin as well. He shares drumming duties with Neil Peart on one of the tracks.
My #7 pick Is an American musician who is primarily known as the drummer, backing vocalist, and co-founder of the progressive metal band Dream Theater. I'm talking about Mike Portnoy.
Albums- Images and Words(DreamTheater), Nightmare (Avenged Sevenfold whichisthefirstalbum i heard from him being on drums and i nevernew dream theater until i heard my pickfor today) Metropolis II: Scenes From a Memory(Dream Theater)
Song- Pull Me Under (the first song I heard from Dream Theater. I was like woah who's this band and I started to listen to more dream theater like another day and 6:00.)
My #7 - Sully Erna - Godsmack
Favorite Song - Straight Out of Line
Stewart Copeland today. So much of the Police's sound was down to his drumming.
7. Vinnie Paul (Pantera)
* Cowboys From Hell (1990)
* Vulgar Display of Power (1992)
* Far Beyond Driven (1994)
@@gaiaeternal5131 hi Dave. Awesome picks and article. I’m sorry you’ve got a weather problem.
@@melaniethurber5117 Thanks, Melanie.
@@gaiaeternal5131 you’re welcome Dave. What are you on that place you go to?
Picks #7,7,8,9,9,10
Tony Williams Albums: Emergency!(1969), Turn It Over(1970) with guitar master John McLaughlin, Believe It(1975) with Alan Holdsworth on guitar.
With this next guy…(cheating again !!)
Ringo Starr Albums: Revolver(1966), Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band(1967) & The White Album(1968).

Steve Smith did a brief stint with Focus.
Hi Jerry. Superb picks and article. He’s still on my list

I love this bands 1970s output, they fall off for me personally; after 1981 . Based on the 70's though. He has to the on the list best and most influential drummers. He had to be on most people list for a reason. Of course, He's
Neil Peart
Exit Stage Left
Hemispheres
A Farewell to kings
(Performance) Cinderella Man
This song was basically a show and tell for the virtuoso that was Peart and is Geddy...and obviously Tom Sawyer, he bludgeons you for the majority of the track. It's in the last 50 seconds of the song however! That his genius is undeniable.
#8 Dave Lombardo

South Of Heaven
Testament- The Gathering

Fills in for Degrasso on most tracks on Y&T 10 album..Surrender rocks
He is great...saw him with ARW
My pick for day # 24 goes to a man who is around for a very long time and still active,
7. NICK MASON, Pink Floyd
Nick is the only band member who has played on every album of this legendary band, which started in the middle of the 60s.

@ you’re welcome FrankLang
@@ziggyzagzi8017 Yes, they were, Ziggy... though at David's "Remember That Night" concert it was Richard Wright who supported him. Nick hasn't been there. (I have the DVD, it was a brilliant concert)
Pick #7 - Igor Cavalera, Sepultura - Crazy-good rhythms that I'd still run through a brick wall for. The relentless "Beneath the Remains" album is a great place to start.
Reveal it reveal it...you revealed it before you revealed it😂
Lol you gave it away before the unveiling
Today my pick #7 is Stewart Copeland of the Police. 3 albums I’m picking are Reggetta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine. Song imo is his best drum performance is Walking on the moon
Excellent choice, Tyler.
@ Thank you Debbie
Albert Bouchard - "Wings Wetted Down"

Carlton Barrett My favorite non-rock drummer. "The pulse of an entire movement." He thought backwards. In demand late 60's session guy who popularized One Drop beat. Great rock steady and ska guy who through Lee "Scratch" Perry met Bob Marley & the Wailers and history made. All the hits and vast majority of non-hits excellent examples such as Zion Train, Roots Rock Reggae, and Them Belly Full.
By your description, Pete (51 seconds into this) I'm going to guess it is Kenny Aronoff. Let's see if I'm right....
Pick 7 cozy Powell thats right what a assom drummer Jeff Beck group and rainbow and Michael sharker group etc
What a pick, Melanie.
Steve Smith would have been in my top 25 but I don't think I would rate him as high as #7. For an album I would have actually recommended a DVD: Concert With Class from Frank Gambale.
