It depends on how long there IS a G.O.P. Over its first 75 years, the GOP transformed itself radically. Since then, "saying the quiet parts out loud" has driven out the moderates. MAGA's physical threats against civil servants and politicians and their families has succeeded in intimidating any conservatives left in the party. MAGAs don't understand that their pursuit of a "purely" MAGA party will necessarily shrink the GOP.

I have a problem with both parties but the republicans are insane. At least some of the democrats holding office actually want to protect the lower income families. The republicans have always been for the wealthy and big corporations and those corporations are way behind when it comes to paying taxes and trump made it worse by cutting taxes on those corporations. When Biden was elected these corporations were taxed half of what they were before trump but they were so greedy they passed that tax on to consumers along with a markup, making prices spiral out of control while making record profits. They call it inflation when it’s actually stealing. They need to pay their fair share. STOP THE STEALing from consumers and do let these republicans lies go unchecked. They also want to eliminate social security and other entitlements for people who don’t receive a government retirement like they do. Take their government retirement funds and pass it on to social security to and put them in the system so they have to rely on it when they retire. That would be the end of that argument. Interesting conversation. My mother was a devoted Republican - what was referred to as a Yankee Republican - fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. Her (and my) Republican Party became extinct with the election of Ronald Reagan, the rise of the Moral Majority and Trickle Down BS. The reality is that the statesman Republicans and Democrats of the pre Reagan era were able to compromise (now essentially a 4 letter word) and work towards the improvement of life for Americans, but those who followed were ideologues, like Newt Gingrich. It now obvious that Reaganomics happened to occur at the same time of a major technology shift: individuals access to IC-microprocessor technology like computers, mobile phones, efficient gadget rich cars, smart grid, smart refrigerators etc. The fabulous growth in wealth that has occurred was due to this technology, not Reagan. The policies of Reagan eviscerated much of the Post WWII social policy that had strived to be more egalitarian, build an infrastructure supportive of business and people, and finally recognized the oppression of minorities and women. I blame Nuclear Newt Gingrich for the inception of this take-no-prisoners creep towards craziness. Frankly, today’s political mess is because a certain group of entitled men, mostly white and apparent religious right wingers, believe that they are being victimized, when in reality they just don’t want to share.

“I believe the Republican caucus will soon move beyond these very minor distractions regarding my many past accomplishments and start doing the work the American people sent us here to Congress to do, which is to investigate the lies told by the Democrats." - George Santos
Its a party that should have died politically a long time ago, its death has been postponed by being protected by the electoral college, voter suppression laws, unconstitutional gerrymandering. Their base is literally dying off and they now had to successively start catering to the extremists, marginals and the outright crazy. Not to mention they needed the help of the russians and welcomed it in 2016 and then felt so desperate that they won't ever win elections ever again that Jan 6th happened, almost giving America its first autocrat. All that to say, no wonder this is such a brain dead party, its bad ideas should have lead that party to electoral demise naturally a long time ago.
If Santos was a California congressman there would already be recall petitions circulating. Why aren’t the people in his district trying to get a recall election?
From an article: "Could the voters recall Santos? No. The US Constitution does not allow Members of Congress to be recalled by their constituents. The only viable paths for the GOP to rid themselves of Santos would be for him to resign or for McCarthy to bring forward a vote of removal that two-thirds of the GOP caucus would need to agree to."
But what does this all say about the average American? That being lied to is alright? Madness. Your leaders should be held to a higher standard, not a lower standard.
One of the ways to remove politicians who are not what they appeared to be once elected is to create a recall law. If a constituency is dissatisfied with their representative they can hold a vote to have them recalled and a new representative installed. If say 55% of the voters wanted them gone, they are gone. Sinema could have been removed when her constituents realized that she was not what she appeared to be. Santos would be the same story.

I was a republican before Jan. 6th. They did that and it was a total embarrassment so I changed the next day.
Me too!
No disrespect here, I voted for them too when I was in a bad place mentally. I just kinda want to know why other people did. I did it, because I was young, disaffected, and Hillary just seemed so insincere after the Bernie stuff. I'd also began to accept conspiracy theories, and began to tie my life's issues back to something other people were holding back. I was convinced I couldn't get help with my issues, because the Democrats didn't care about them, but DID care about some other people, whom I'd come to despise.
I just wanna know what everyone else was going through. Because I'll be honest, with half the people I knew that flew in those circles at the time, it was holding onto really backwards social beliefs over women, minorities, and LGBT issues in general.

JonnieMae; It is astonishing what has happened in America in the last 30 some years. The Republicans seem to be hell bent on destroying Democracy with false information and their base is lapping up like good little puppies. They have lost their way... many in prominence ( the loud-mouths) are devoid of mortals, ethics, compassion and a sense of working for the American people and are unqualified to do the job. They think being a gym teacher or a running a Ponzi scheme is enough experience to make laws. The job is no longer the focus... getting on as many news networks as they can to spew hate and racism is the goal now. Their motto is GUNS, GOD AND BEER. That may appeal to the some people in this country but it sure scares the hell out of me. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!! They can't understand those words.... must be the beer.

No sane reasonable person could possibly vote Republican ever again.
They are hypocrites and liars. Both parties are overrun with crooks. Republicans are mostly irresponsible morons and democrats are sitting on their asses when they should be making progress and holding these sadists accountable.

One of the ways to remove politicians who are not what they appeared to be once elected is to create a recall law. If a constituency is dissatisfied with their representative they can hold a vote to have them recalled and a new representative installed. If say 55% of the voters wanted them gone, they are gone.
