I recently moved from Alabama to Georgia, and this is my first election ever voting in a swing state. No long is my blue vote wasted in a sea of red. The end of the electoral college cannot come soon enough. Everyone's vote should count, not just swing state voters.

When I was a university student in the late 1970's, I took a class on the Constitution and the Basis of Law. That is, what gives our law its moral authority? It was instructive and eye-opening. So, yes, it is always a bit frustrating to me when people say we are a constitutional republic and not a democracy. When I was a university student in the late 1970's, I took a class on the Constitution and the Basis of Law. That is, what gives our law its moral authority? It was instructive and eye-opening. So, yes, it is always a bit frustrating to me when people say we are a constitutional republic and not a democracy. Thank you, thank you, Jamie Raskin for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us on this subject!
Sorry, but we ARE a constitutional republic for several reasons below that is supposed to be governed by "justice, domestic tranquility and to form a more perfect union" and right now we are not a democracy by and large.
Mr Raskin proves his own thesis statement wrong. The USA is still a Constitutional Republic. He mentions the Senate where states like Wyoming with barely 600,000 total population has two Senators when the population of Milwaukee Wisconsin proper city limits us around the same, while California with population of 39 million has also only two Senators, and the electoral college is obvious, then there is the gerrymandering and that is just about the entire government structure tied in a pretzel.
The Republic favors a Tryanny of the Minority. That is not a Democracy. That is BS - and he offers no solutions as he speaks of this.
Then he speaks of the Supreme Court - the hands of the king for life. They can can be removed from office by an impeachment or Quo Warranto for rebellion to the Constitution of the United States and Congressional laws, which they are to be guided by "justice, domestic tranquility and to form a more perfect union", yet again no solution though it is literally right in the United States District Court for DC as DC Code 16-3501.
Then there is Trump, who have violated so many Articles of the Constitution and Congressional laws he has by court declaration violated Article II Section I Clause I as Trump's effort to stay in power past 4 years without being re-elected which activates Section 3 of the 14th amendment and he fails to mention it like Raskin is clueless it exists and there are at least 20 similar disqualifying activity that affirms Trump's Constitutionally ineligible candidate status. Yet he sounds like he is unaware of the ECRA of 2022.
Congress has been sent a draft objection for the ECRA of 2022 with which to clearly object and set aside his electoral votes, yet Raskin speaks like Trump could be re-elected without getting over the Section 3 of the 14th amendment hurdle.
It will be imperative that Congress does its job because this year the votes do not matter with a Constitutionally ineligible candidate.
If BTC would go get a law degree and study what he broadcasts - trying to reach law tongue in cheek - illegal by the way - he would have stopped Raskin several times to ask for the solutions.
So no, until the National Popular Vote compact into law happens - which will only be finished by the 61 votes needed by state Constitution initiatives on the ballot in Arizona, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Florida and may be Oklahoma and Nevada too, AND an amendment to senatorial representation by population and not state boundaries AND the illegal nature of non geographic gerrymandering back to the geographic AND enlargement and judicial reform of the Supreme Court with term limits then NO the USA is not a democracy and Raskin himself proved that in his diatribe
