Retired 19 years ago. I always liked the "Comfort Cabs" over the noisy SD38's. Also slept in a lot of hot cabooses before we got rooms. Back in the old days.
He seems to have a great personality and a good sense of humour. Hey Mark enjoy your retirement you’re definitely earned it from keeping America rolling.
Those were some close calls. Hose always almost make you dirty r britches. lol. I had a few of those over the years when I was running. I enjoyed the video Mike. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
I always hated going through all those little towns with 25 crossings that went nowhere. And with an impatient female driver that couldn’t wait on the train. Lol!
EARTH ANGEL THIS definitely was. 👍 GREAT surprise ride !!!! THANKS for taking me along!😇😍😳🎊💕 YOU’VE Got a fan club out there!!👯♂️I finally rang “the” BELL,🛎 now it won’t be such a surprise!🎈.GREAT engineer, great 🎵 music, and 👍 great ride!!!🚂🎟.Thank You!👍💕😍😀
I am a huge railroad train fanatic! I mean, really, an engineer named Mike is so freaking awesome at what he does on the tracks! Best personality, awesome bells and horns, looking out for another object or fools playing on or around the track site. I liked the way he just continued to blow the train horn at those trespassing the rails for no reason! However, I do like the music that was playing. I could not tell what the name of the song was playing on your mission. However, it was just a little too loud. I apologize for the unexpected inconvenience. But, all I wanna do is give a shout out to Mike and his crew of CSX and all shout outs go to CSX Transportation! [CSXT] is my favorite railroad industry in the history of the United States! Oh, yeah and I almost forgot. Here is the game plan for crossing a railroad crossing safely: 1. Stop. You must come to a full stop. pedestrians must come to a full stop behind the railroad crossing signal. 2. Look. Look both ways 2 times when crossing the tracks. Almost like looking both ways when crossing the street. 3. Listen. Listen for a train horn or a train bell. Use your ears and your eyes as a listening method when crossing the railroad tracks. 4. Live. Proceed safely across the tracks and go on about the rest of your day.
I just spent more than 60 minutes watching your videos and wanted to say thanks. I realize buying one of your videos might say thanks in a better way but for now, thanks! Your videos focus on the trains, the railroads and lots of information but unlike some videos your videos aren't just about you with train footage in the rear. Peace!
Man you got the life, saw your opening pic, I’m a firefighter in New York City and I must say I have a job that young kids dream of but so do you, you got the only gig I’d consider leaving mine for!
keith cordes I have a one of a kind work career from Navy to RR to firefighting to bus driver to welder to semi driver..but not in that order. Retired from RR as Engineer @ age 60
I work for a switch crew in west central ohio. Our parent company is Genesee and Wyoming. I didn't know cameras were allowed. We switch between NS and CSX and it is a pain in the ass to get CSX to cooperate with us. They either deliver the cars on the wrong tracks, or fail to leave any switching space for us. Rarely they do anything we ask them!
That last clip looked like Kennesaw. "I know you're in a train but can't you see we're having a block party here? Jeez!" I had something similar happen to me like that in Orlando FL. Cops parked their cars across the tracks because they were closing the railroad off to train use for the parade. Luckily they were able to clear off the crossing just as we came through because it was about to get messy.
I mean if you don’t like it then hop off, I find this guy entertaining and I find it that when he does what I do I learn more. Thx much stupid heritage unit.
Engineer Mike Barnett retired, right? What a legend. Being watching him on youtube since long ago. Awesome video footage sir... regards, from South Africa.
I live in Acworth and love this video brother it is awesome. I must confess I have walked the tracks to Emerson across the lake. People think is it dangerous but it is not. Trains do not sneak up on anyone. I get out of the way well ahead of time. Never would I try to run across in front of a train like the kids did. That is stupid.
some people are so dumb, but you are awsome mike, i have loved trains since i was born, also i know all the different types of horns and CSX is one of my favorite companies, also, i post railfanning videos
Thanks again for another awesome assistant engineer ride along video. Have a question Mr. Barnett. Where could I find a CSX reflective safety vest to add to my railroad room I'm creating in our new home?
I hired on in 1977 when guys took the job seriously and never once laughed when we came close to killing someone. How many have you run over and laughed!!!!
I've never killed anyone and don't think it's a laughing matter either what was going on in the cab had more to do with something else. I was a true professional and have trained at least 25 locomotive engineers prior to retiring, please don't get ahead of yourself.
Steve I hired on in 1976 into transportation in Cleveland Ohio B&O I never hit anyone as an engineer never. We were laughing about something entirely separate from the near miss of the kids but more to do with what I shouted out the window to them ...staying safe is no laughing matter ..I retired in 2014.
Now the A10 Warthog have been scrapped how about fitting the Gatling guns to the front locomotives and firing bursts of blanks at trespasses? If that does not work add live rounds. Salt or buckshot. and if that does not work then depleted uranium.
Honestly, being a train engineer is not a job I could handle. Watching the tracks for obstacles and folks acting recklessly, the stress of going through towns and villages and crossings with no gate controls, ectcetera. I'm not sure how they really manage that stress as the anxiety would kill me. A far tougher job than most may think.
I feel like it's something I could do, mentally anyway, I'm a bit heartless, and when I've done everything I know I could do to save your life on my end, and you still get hit, I wouldn't let that sit on my conscious, cause I know it ain't my fault.
MAN_ON_WHEELZ - Will you feel like that when your train hits a school bus loaded with kids in a "NO TRAIN HORN" town? Not that it would be your fault. Just that it happened.
Al Grayson - Well, in my experience working near railroads in distant towns in the middle of nowhere, the only places I've seen "No Train Horn" has been on roads hardly no-one travels, let alone a school bus (if it could even fit on such a road) or in areas where you can get a good clear view of an oncoming train before driving out onto the tracks. I'd still have the thought that this bus driver should have taken better caution crossing this track (I certainly do), cause chances are this bus may have nearly killed me as well! Train may have even derailed from it!
On the contrary no train horns are typically in heavily settled residential areas where the homeowners say they are tired of the horns. I don't know why you think no train horns zones aka quiet zones are in areas not well traveled. If no one is in that area there is no complaint.
Let me elaborate, no train horn + no lights/signals. THIS is what I commonly see in areas not well traveled. I've yet to see this in an American town where there are many homes nearby. No horn maybe, but not the no signals. Unless you can easily see a ways down the track. That I have seen.

Mike my man your funny AF making fun of those kids blowing the horn to the people having a wedding this video is so good
WHY AM I SEEING YOU EVERYWHERE! I can’t get away LMFAO
Those were some close calls. Hose always almost make you dirty r britches. lol. I had a few of those over the years when I was running. I enjoyed the video Mike. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
I know why people are running across tracks, to find their brain
If they slip in front of the engine they will scooping their brain up with a shovel
@@desertfoxx1823 someone will anyway
he should've fired the horn at him
And unfortunately, if they dont find it, a medic will.

Absolutely the best EVER Engineer
The sounds from inside of the cab was never to meant to be clearly understood even if it meant scrambling it with music, I'm sorry
Quick its ok
Really cool seeing your view going through Acworth and Kennesaw!
I know I would enjoy running frieght trains. Just like Mike here. He looks like hes having fun.
I'd love to see more videos like this. Love the energy level!

How did he stand up and leave the operator's position at 2:08 without an automatic brake application?
That unit is equipped to allow the operator enough time to do brief task that require him or her to move away from the controls.
What the name of the song you put in the background also great video
