Wow... i've been doing jits for 17 years, visited many schools, and a bb. There are so many great details scattered throughout this video. I'll end up rewatching it many times!
I really like how you have been allowing people to come on and teach from your channel. Everyone has something new to bring to the table. You have a lot of absolutely incredible instructionals as well and you really go into detail. What a time to be alive. Thank you for your efforts!
I loved it!! The straight ankle lock is one of my favorite submission. Now I have new set ups and details to practice and add to my game. Thank you Arthur and Jordan!
I recently discovered Zuka and he is a tremendous asset upon which to rely. Excellent instruction on technique and concise as well. Thanks for putting this content out there Jordan. Two great instructors providing great content. Much appreciated.
In my last class I snagged an underhook and muscled up from half guard and later hit a butterfly sweep based solely on stuff I've learned from your channel. That was my 4th class and both felt like huge wins. Thanks for all the amazing content!
Would love to know your thoughts on this bjj move. 1. Starting Position: Start from the Ashi Garami (single-leg X-guard) position, where your opponent's leg is trapped between your legs, and you're controlling their foot. 2. Isolation: Use one arm to firmly grip their foot just above the ankle, and your other arm locks over their shin. Control their toes by gripping just above the ball of their foot to prevent movement. 3. Set-Up: Move your body to the side, so your chest is perpendicular to their ankle. Place the blade of your forearm on the inside of their ankle, and wrap your other arm around their leg to keep it immobilized. 4. Pressure: From this position, start to apply downward pressure with your forearm into the opponent’s ankle, while simultaneously twisting their foot outward (toward the pinky toe side) and upward. This creates a massive torque on the ankle joint while hyperextending the ligaments in the foot. 5. Submission Threat: The combination of torque and pressure on the ankle joint and foot forces the opponent to tap. If they don't tap, it could result in severe sprains, torn ligaments, or even fractures in the ankle or foot.
Brown belt been training 10 years, you're just a phenomenal teacher and so much I've learned watching this video. Thank you! My training partners prob won't like you though haha
Been doing the last one for years. Defense for it is pretty simple. Don't post on floor with other hand. Grab/cup knee and the c cup ankle and go (holding knee entire time). 😉
I tried this at the gym and i was surprised at how quick i got the tap. Didnt even think i had anything but training partner said it was super tight and felt like it was gonna explode. Felt like i was only at 30-40% crank. -❤ From Edmonton.
31:29 if this isn’t what your supposed to do to defend, what is? What if when you peel the foot back, your other hand is pulling his knee down so you can’t swing his leg over? Our is it best to thread your leg threw and use that to push against there chest to clear the knee line? 🤔
5:21 Can you elaborate on the difference between sliding straight to the ankle to catch vs lifting the leg and circling the arm like he describes? I can't visually register the difference.
In my opinion. He does that so it is abit loose and that guy would feel it try to pull his foot out but it is actually a trap when he pulls out he slides all the way and get a better bite ( when he try to slides out he is actually putting foot for a nasty ankle lock) . Rather than you forcing it straight in let the guy do it himself.
Here we get told butt to butt and make sure knee is bent, and in other videos like Heath Pedigo, we get told to extend away and make sure leg is straight/extended. Can we get a comparison and the pros/cons of the various alternatives?
If I'm not mistaken, the cross ashi position is allowed in IBJJF blue/purple competition as long as you attack the leg that isn't trapped. Is the second lock demonstrated in the video (SLX cross side ankle lock) legal in IBJJF blue/purple competition?

A hoodie under the gi while Jordan isnt wearing anything under his makes me super confused about what the temperature is like there lol
lol I’m a featherweight and I naturally run cold!
@@zukaBJJ thanks so much for the instructional! Subbed to your channel. This was super informative
@@zukaBJJThis is absolute fire content. Thank you, going to immediately sub your channel now.
😂
@@zukaBJJ I'm pretty good at ankle locks but two of your rules were truly eye opening.
I was completely engrossed, from beginning to end. Outstanding details and Arther even cited his sources! Thank you, gentlemen. Wonderful stuff.
APA format citations always !

Best ankle lock instructions ever. Give that man a medal 🥇
The most incredible video about ankle lock? Yes

Arthur’s amazing I’m surprised I’ve never seen his videos before
@@salman3887 definitely sub to his channel 🙂
Surely you have seen him pretending to be a white belt and subduing an entire gym
That dude is an excellent teacher. I like his style. Great video!
Jooooooordan, can’t thank you enough for these kinds of awesome collaborations
Glad it's appreciated, more coming! It's win win for me!
Zuka is the bomb and has excellent narrations on his channel 🎉 . He already gave me Half the power and Now I have the other Half 😊
Clearest overview I've ever seen. Many thanks
Absolutely outstanding video. I’m a purple belt but definitely a white belt in foot locks. This has improved my understanding a lot! Thanks guys
best ankle lock videos I've seen since the old Riley Bodycomb stuff
It's so sick that this is free. Thank you both!
Thanks!
Thank you!
What got me convinced is jordan’s reaction. Lifting his butt up to protect the ankle means its super tight.
I loved it!! The straight ankle lock is one of my favorite submission. Now I have new set ups and details to practice and add to my game. Thank you Arthur and Jordan!
Amazing to see the two best UA-camrs working together again!
Thank you! Definitely gotta get Arthur back on the channel again for more gold!
This guy is fantastic. Thank you Mr. Ankle lock man.
Thank you for introducing me to this guy. He is a great teacher
This should be the BJJ-video of the year. Damn good breakdown, "whats actually happends" and packed with details.
Thanks a lot to the both of you!
Man I saw this dude a few years ago as a white belt. He was beating everyone up. Makes sense he's graduated to black belt so soon!

Btw I'm pretty new to bjj so I don't know if this already exists
Incredible video, I love the details
Outstanding thank you
Amazing video! I'm going to watch that about 30 times.
What a superb explainer. Not a single Uhmmm uhh. Clear reason of why certain things are done, addressing common challenges etc. thank you.

is that last one legal for blue belts or would that belly down be considered a reap?

I’ll be honest, ankle locks, foot locks, toe holds and everything else are the only things that put me off bjj.
So good
Did anyone else catch what looks like an extreme webbed toe on the thumbnail😂. Love the technique.
BIG OSS.
goes to show you how high level a black belt is just easily remembering 10 variations of an ankle lock while I struggle to remember 3 as a blue belt
Great video! For what belt levels is the cross ankle lock legal in ibjff vs only the straight ankle variation?
best ankle lock tbh,but is there for no gi

Ya I have as a brown belt. It was a nice fast paced roll!
