Researchers at UCLA found that changes in blood flow in the retina might help explain some visual symptoms of migraine.
To better understand migraine visual symptoms like light sensitivity and blindspots, researchers used a non-invasive imaging technique, to look at changes in the retinal blood vessels during and between migraine attacks.
During migraine attacks in people with and without migraine aura- researchers found that blood flow decreases in the retina during a migraine attack compared to healthy controls.
They also found asymmetrical blood flow in the retinas was linked with the side of the head where people experienced migraine pain.
