My retinal specialist never went through any of this shit. He scrolled through my OCT in the wrong eye for 2 seconds and said my retinas were perfect and told me it was a migraine.

What if the mri doesn't show up with anything? I am being diagnosed with scotomas but the only time my eyes show up with these bloches is when I tilt my head or leab to the side or do anything quick in motion causing pressure. I dont think they are scotomas

    • @GlennMcGrewII
      @GlennMcGrewII Рік тому

That would not be scotomas. You should go to a specialist, perhaps one like Dr. Lee.

I seem to have a milder form of scintillating scotoma. I find that as long as I keep my eyes open, especially at bright things, the longer it will last, and the more likely it will be that I'll get a dull headache at the end of it. I've never bothered to see how long I could sustain it, as I'm not keen on the visual distortion or the headache, even if it isn't that bad. There doesn't seem to be, for me, any relationship between stress and SS -and I've had them at home, at work, at the grocery store, etc. The first instance was at work back in the late 90s, and it is usually several months before the next. As far as duration, I would say that it can definitely last longer than an hour for me - I once tried ignoring it and carried on using my computer - it got bigger and didn't go away. I ended up with a dull headache and had to stop and close my eyes. I've never had a migraine and I almost never get headaches aside from muscular ones.
I would add that my visual experience, based on your representation, is a bit different. It starts out as an undefined blurriness that expanded into somewhat of a C shape. The C both increases in size and thickness until I keep my eyes closed. It seems to be coming from my right eye. I experience minimal blurriness. The C has a shimmering pattern of tiny geometric shapes that are well defined and it reminds me of what kids call "holo" these days - like something etched by a laser that shifts in the light. There are colors present. There is no black spot.
I get the best results by keeping my eyes closed and covered. I was at work last week and had one, the first in months, The longer I keep my eyes closed, the faster it stops. In fact, as soon as I recognized the symptoms last time, I sat down and closed and covered my eyes and it was gone in a little over 10 minutes. Resisting doing so tends to extend the recovery time, and an extended time with active SS can give me that lovely dull headache. As I keep well hydrated and eat well, I cannot say that there is any correlation with hydration and nutrition. Frankly, though, it happens so rarely that I probably wouldn't notice something else that DOES correlate.
I definitely don't recommend that someone keep working and that they should rest their eyes. Since the visual distortion tends to worsen as time passes, it can be a challenge to do things with your eyes, and it poses risks if you're operating machinery.
Based on what you said, I'm now wondering if my B12 is low, since I don't think I have a problem with low folate. i almost never consume alcohol and this has been going on for about 25 years, so there are very few things in my life now that were in my life at that time. My diet is better and I get more exercise, although I do spend a lot of time in front of a computer due to learning and my YT channels.

Hello, I also experience a migraine aura "scotoma" and your story relates to me and I need your help.
When I get the aura it's like a tiny star with all colours mixed into it (rainbow blind spot) then I close my eyes and wait for it to go it takes 1-2 minutes, the aura moves from the right centre of my vision to the side and then my brain basically "smacks" it looking the it will explode making it go away.
Then when I open my eye the vision field where the aura was is a blind spot that will heal after a few minutes, I don't get headaches and don't know if it's a migraine?
I usually get it 2-3 times every next 15 days.
What if I don't close my eyes? Will I go blind?
Please Respond I'm a young teenager.

@@bericbird5886 Here's the short answer: If you're not getting bad headaches, it's not a migraine. If you don't close your eyes, it may or may not go away, but light definitely makes it last longer, which is also true with a migraine. No, you won't go blind!
A migraine is an extremely painful type of headache. I had a neighbor who'd get it - an adult male - and he reportedly would curl on on the floor and scream during his migraines.
As Dr. Lee explained, there can be vitamin deficiencies that can cause the scintillating scotoma, such as not enough vit. B12 or folate. For myself, B12 is the problem. Even before I was a vegan, I was having problems with these (since around 1998), but I never knew what caused them. Because humans devastate the farm soil with lots of poisons, the bacteria that make B12 are being killed off, so the B12 you could get from food that still had some soil on it, or even from livestock, is becoming rarer. Ranchers have to inject B12 into their livestock to give them what the animals used to get from the soil in the roots of pulled-up plants that they ate. As long as I use B12 often enough, I don't get these. If I don't, I get them weekly. Of course, as Dr. Lee explained, there are OTHER causes so, if you improve your diet and it doesn't stop, you should go to the eye doctor.

@@GlennsFastReviews Yes I don't get headaches and I got a blood test and got Vitamin D + Iron Deficiency, this ks because I don't eat much and I could make myself hungry without feeling hunger, the first time I got the Scotoma, I was exhausted from my day at school and when I dropped my heavy backpack to the ground then I got it.
I'm beginning to eat more better and I went to the eye doctor saying that my eye is normal and it should just be a migraine.
Thank you a lot for relieving me from this visual nightmare.

@@bericbird5886 I'm happy to help! Please check out my health talk videos on my other channel, Eclectician. They may help you, although there are still more I need to create.
Be careful with iron. It is a toxin if you get too much, and the symptoms are almost the same between too little and too much. If you're getting an iron supplement from the store, look for and avoid ones that say "ferrous" because that form is the toxic one and the body cannot store it. You need to find ones that get iron from plant sources, which is "ferritin", is non-toxic, and the body can store it. Plant Chompers did a great video about that.

@@GlennsFastReviews I watched your migraine aura video and is it normal for the aura to appear more than once a day ? When i get the auras I close my eyes and wait for it to go it starts at the middle of fixation point the moves a bit side then from what I see is my brain making the aura dissapear by making it look like it will explode (like a hacked computer screen).

I have like a greenish hue one that I can barely see when I focus on it. It lazily drifts across my center vision. It's tiny but annoying, and becoming more and more prominent. It started a couple weeks ago and has been off and on since. I used to drink heavily about 3 months ago, but since have stopped completely. I have tingly fingers and toes occaisionally and back pain, also a weakness in the side of my face though no visible sagging. I'll update on this when I get my MRI and other tests in a couple weeks or if my scotoma improves.
