I m from Karachi, Pakistan 🇵🇰, summer very high temperature very dry in May and very hot Humid in June before arrival of monsoon rains sometimes very heavy rains throughout season sometimes very low, climate change here due to global warming, if thermometer 🌡 recorded temperature 30 degrees Celsius in night the heat index 35 degrees Celsius high UV index in summer about 10 to 11, in winter very dry cool wind 🌬 blowing from Central Asia towards Arabian Sea and West Indian Ocean, sometimes one or two times winter coastal city rain if El-Nino on Pacific rather than no rain in winter, temperature day time average 30 degrees Celsius while at night sometime below single digit around 7 degrees on peak two weeks of winter.

Yes cut dead leaves at the base of the stalk. The other ones you cut are personal preference on how you want the plant shaped.
