"Get consent... Ppl who try to self-polinate... They're all in jail now" 😂😂😂😂 This is THE BEST video I've seen on Bird of Paradise. Thanks my plant Guru ❤
I love that both you and your dad are plant people. What a wonderful interest to share with a parent 😊 I wish someone in my family or friends was interested too, but it's just lil ole me alone in my indoor jungle 🫠
Just a quick thanks, I've recently become disabled but I can still tend to my plants and your enthusiast nature has led to about 30 more plants and it's all helping my wellbeing significantly even on a bad pain day I get distracted by tending to them so thanks again 🎉❤❤
Hey! I just want to stop to say I love your videos, they inspired me to start my planty journey. They are full of information! Thank you for opening up a world of beauty and growth ❤
A big thank you to both your father and yourself for a great video,Have learned so much from you in a few minutes to know where I’m going wrong. Again many thanks 👍👍👍🇬🇧
Dude, you’re a genius! Your videos are packed with information and you love to experiment you’re a true green thumb kinda dude! Watch your video I’ve seen enough I’m subscribing 🙌🙌🙌
I love bird of paradise! One thing I don't get is the flowering time... here you said that they bloom in fall but when I went to Sicily, Italy, last May, the hotel had bird of paradises blooming in May! They were in the garden and not in pots. When I got home I immediately had to buy one from Ikea. I got the Strelitzia reginae. I have my plant under a 1500 lumens light and so far it has stayed alive here in Finland. When summer comes the plant will take a holiday on my south facing glassed balcony with her closest friends dwarf banana and croton petra. I hope the time will come that the bird of paradise makes flowers...
Love this! I have a bird of paradise with very slow growth, and this video has given me the confidence to separate the 2 plants! Also, would love a video of hibiscus health! In your previous bird of paradise video i noticed your dad has quite a few hibiscus. I have several that i overwinter inside too (living in Minnesota) so I would love any tips on health/care :D
I think mine will be white and I'm not overly happy about that but I medicated night ordered 4 4 inch ones about 16 months ago lol... They're about 2-2.5 feet tall now. I'm on your dad's team with the miracle gro, only I mix in one bag cactus mix and half a bag miracle gro perlite, then I've got extra perlite I can add depending on the plant as some need less perlite to not be tippy lol The bop roots even on a baby are freaking amazing! I would not want to be trying to dig that out of the ground! I got bored with the soil on top of the bop since they're tall and need a larger pot for those roots, so I tossed a pearls and Jade pothos in as a bit of a ground cover. My thought process was "the bop drinks so freaking much it will be next to impossible to drown the pothos" 🤣 so far so good!
Hi I just bought a BoP and appreciate your advice so much! I live in Germany, so I am on the light issue but can you please give me advice on fertilizer!
LOL the expression on your dad was hilarious! Thank you for this informative video. I'm taking in all these research on the plant. I would like to grow them outside. However, it's in direct sun light possibly up to 6 hours.
You can, as long as youre able to acclimatize them slowly to the new intense lighting. start in a more shaded area. work up to a few hours a day until it is full time.
In my yard I've got 3 separate plants in 3 different areas. After watching this I've just taken pollen off from flowers I just cut and took the pollen to another different plant and have left it on the receptive side.
Hi. Thank you again for this video. Very helpful. If I don't have a grow light, can I put these seeds like 3 seeds in a 3 inch pot with a wet/moistened soil then put these pots in a medium bin with lid then I will place this bin outdoors in a GTA, Ontario July 2024 up and down weather/ temperatures under a roof with bright light. Will this be ok too?
Very well presented, great detail! thank you for posting:) I really, really want to know more about these shady folks that are in jail because they didn't get consent to pollinate their neighbors plant.... seems harsh...lol
Also, can I pollinate from one of my birds to another? And can I pollinate from an orange to a mandala gold? have you tried this and if so what color flower have you gotten? I have four plants, two that are older and very large, one of which is 6 ft tall. Two that I planted a year ago, one of these flowered with the mandala gold flower. Thank you again in advance.
@@angeltrudo I don't know a lot about cross breeding BOP but I do suggest you try it if you're interested. I would have to go read some research papers to get a better idea of how they're crossed.
Do all flowers produce seeds? I didn’t see any in my last few flowers. I however have been surprised to see my one plant is a mandala gold and I want to get seeds from it!!!!
I didn’t know they could flower inside! I saw some when I went to IAS in Florida and have been trying to get one since Where did your dad get his? It seems like everything local in the northeast US is the white BoP and not the orange S. reginae!
None of our bird of paradise seeds made it but it was our first batch why are they so hard they never even sprouted...also whats the difference between perelite and vermiculite?
I just moved my b.o.p to a different spot cause I realized my moms built in wall house fan/air conditioner it was under about 1 foot from, the air it was blowing may been the reason many leaves browned:( I gave it a haircut. I don't think it was a watering effect. As it did great in the summer in the greenhouse Do you know If this a thing? Air blowing on the leaves causing them to shrivel and brown?
Unpopular opinion, i think the orange variety is not visually appealing. It's a shorter and more bunchy and the color does nothing for me, BUT THE WHITE VARIETY 😍 the plant is much taller and the flowers look so elegant in white.
im very sorry. this videoo is realy helpful to people (at least to me) but to me its not helping, why? BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE COLD ERIA!!!! i- mean japan is a very cold spot.. but nice video keep it up!!!!
I live in Canada. It is colder here. My plant was kept indoors 100% of the time. My dad’s is kept indoors in fall and winter and outdoors in the summer.
So on a scale of 1-5.... 5 being Hard and 1 Easy.... How easy is it to grow and maintain this plant? Beautiful plant but dont want to waste time with a plant that requires too much attention ya know...???!!!

AWWWWW your dad. Enjoy this time with him, and don’t take it for granted. I just lost my dad in February.

@KillThisPlant 😂😂😂😂 mom is like 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Damn dude you are unique. This is the only video that I have watched of yours and I have a million questions in my head
Hahahaha love that last part with your dad ❤
😂😂😂 the ending!! My BOP is in the same soil mix with some added orchid bark so this video really gives me hope! Thank you Lee!

Lee, your dad is the best...
He's the best at being jealous.
I grow it from seeds one time indoors in Norway. It took 6 month before the seeds showed up in the pot ! And then it took 4 years for it to flower !
That's great. Congratulations.
Thank you !

He strikes again! Great job! Thanks for the guidance on BOP! I have a white bird. Would this process be the same? Thank you!
Same process! White BOP is much more challenging to flower and does need significantly more light and time. Best of luck!
This was so helpful!! Thank you so much.

Nice. The seed germination was interesting. The moss mix was obviously MUCH better. How many days until germination????

You debunked the myth that bird of paradise can’t flower in the home....Very impressive!
I have my Bird of Paradise for years, no blooms yet 🤦♀️ Thanks for the tips 😀🇨🇦
Once you hit that light requirement I'm sure it will soon! (If it's orange, white is more challenging)

What's growing in the background at @3:07?
Can we have a video about large and small form monstera differences? How to differentiate them at young age? Thanks
I'm working on something, but short answer is no, you have to grow them out side by side to be able to tell.
Ok then how to buy one :) .. i bought one but i realized it may be a smaller form
Love the ending 😂😂
I never knew they could be grown as house plants.
Do all flowers produce seeds? I didn’t see any in my last few flowers. I however have been surprised to see my one plant is a mandala gold and I want to get seeds from it!!!!
you need is another plant. And then you will get seeds if you pollinate correctly. It is easy.
I didn’t know they could flower inside! I saw some when I went to IAS in Florida and have been trying to get one since
Where did your dad get his? It seems like everything local in the northeast US is the white BoP and not the orange S. reginae!
White is for sure more popular at big box stores but in Canada at dedicated nurseries and mom and pop plant stores it seems to be pretty even 50/50.
You’re trying to make me jealous 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤

😂lol, I love your dad.
Dude so nice you show your dad 😢the video orrr
If the seed pods are picked to early will they still ripen in a window seal?
no, I don't think so.
Is polinarion to produce seeds or to male seeds germinatable? What if i got seeds from my tree already, will it getminate?
Without pollination there will be no seeds. Your seeds should germinate.
Can you talk about the big white BoP too?
The care is identical except white BOP requires much more light and time to flower.
In Texas just plant them by your drain pipes
I just moved my b.o.p to a different spot cause I realized my moms built in wall house fan/air conditioner it was under about 1 foot from, the air it was blowing may been the reason many leaves browned:( I gave it a haircut. Yes it's likely.
Nice!!
excuse but is your monstera triple planted or not
best end :D

Once you start talking about pollination, it sounds like a Rick and Morty episode

That's fair!
Good for you
That’s fair, but I’m partial to the orange and blue combo. Astros colors. 😊
I agree. I just picked up some of the white variety. Around 15' tall. I also found seed pods while transplanting.
Pic please
Foot candels?
Foot candles are a unit of measurement you can use to determine how bright it is.
Lux and lumens are another common way to measure light.
