i did the same thing in az, off of a small stream , instead of snorkling down a used a 5 gal, bucket with a long hose, and a lawn blower motor, 2" hole about 2/3 th s the way up the bucket, and vaccumed the gold up, in the bucket was miners moss and the water ran out the back of the bucket, , the ranger came down and tried to tell me that i was suction gold mining, but i wasnt the different is that suction units go into a sluice then out , mine is suction out into a bucket catching the gold instead of sluicing. they tried for hours, then the ranger from the BLM told that it was LEGAL what i was doing,. next time bring your bucket.
😂🤣, I put my wetsuit on backwards twice this last summer. Back to the show 😁

Some epic sniping. That crack was packed with pickers. No speck counts in this video. In the poetic words of the legendary river philosopher Mountain Mike, "Eat your heart out Vo-Gus."
Say what you want about Vo-Gus but the guy at least puts out frequent videos and has maximized the potential yield that his area will give up. That would be like throwing out a dig at Flour Gold Wizards because he is limited to glacial micros in his region, but yet he is out there grinding, even in sub zero temps to share frequent adventures with his audience.
@@timothycloney1453 I agree. He plays the hand that the geology in his area has dealt him. He does the best he can with what he’s got and does it with a smile on his face. It’s easy to get spoiled by the riches of the Northern California Motherlode. Two rules of gold mining. Rule number one: You have to mine where the gold is. Rule number two: The best miner is the one having the most fun.

Back in the early 1970s I was breacking bedrock on the bottom of the river when I broke what I thought was bedrock but turned out to be false bedrock with about one and a half gap between that and the true bedrock. I got as much as my pry bar would scrape. Couldn't break anymore. I got close to 3oz! I am now disabled and can't do it any longer. I live

Nice day! But I doubt it was a virgin crack. The motherlode has had a couple high waters last few years. The lack of stain and size indicates it probably came from recent high waters, possibly as far back as 97'. As someone commented above; look upstream probably some good cracks and possibly gravel to grab, keep on it;) Talking from experience.

Great video and you truly captured an epic adventure on film. It’s always good to see Mike in your videos but unfortunately your videos don’t pop up like they used to. I am sure there is something going on in your life that prevents you from going on frequent adventures, I hope you get it sorted out, if so. I hate to be critical but sometimes I feel like some things need to be said. I am not sure how much patreon support you get but I am a big believer that if someone is being supported by patrons, then they have somewhat of an obligation to put out frequent videos. Not necessarily weekly episodes but at least 1 or 2 a month beyond posting shorts or live streams. Ive seen the dynamics of some adventure channels change downwards once someone shifts gears from being just a guy sharing their adventures to someone being monetized and getting support. No doubt you are a great producer, a great host and your adventure videos are top notch quality, I hope you can rally and provide your patrons with more consistent content. Please understand that I am just a subscriber and I didn’t say subscribers because patrons take it next level with their loyalty to a channel when they actually contribute. I apologize for the critical words and do realize that I enjoy your channel and always appreciate it when you share in on your adventures with us, your audience, so thank you. Great area. That is a classic bedrock crack. Gold is always beautiful when you see it in the water. The crack is amazing. Especially when it is going in line with the flow and not accross the flow. I hope you guys are able to make a " yabbie pump " with also modified end cap that can be reduced down from 4 inch to 2 inch with long nozzle to be able to suck up the gravels into a screen classifier on top of a large gold dish . That way you'll be able to catch even the fine gold when panning . Going now to watch the videos on your channel, also subscribed as well . Great sniping day! Only have had one like that in 20 years of doing it and that was 9.1 grams. It was almost a similar crack with a hole that went quite a ways down on a creek in El Dorado County.

ive been out sniping 3 times and yet to find much. Where can i find bedrock like that?! ive been bit by the sniping bug. Seems counterintuitive, but some of the best gold I have found has been in crevices that were inline with the flow.

I want to try the snorkle setup, however I'd probaby be the dummy to drown with it by trying to go too deep. haha
You need to go back there with a vacuum. Tape a large bendable straw to the end of the nozzle (711 big gulp type straw) so you can reach right and left in the crevice you were working. Be interesting to see what you could get out of there.
Hey just an idea from my diving days, place plastic bags over your feet and hands before you pull the wetsuit on, limbs will slide right on, pull the bag out and you're ready to go.
