    Just my observation and opinion. Now is the time to put 2 x 12 scrap in between studs in bathrooms walls for example towel bars or ADA hand bars etc. Works great for cabinets, no need to find studs. Take measurements and photos of location of these supports for future use.

    Well done, Sousa family! The house is coming along nicely. I loved Nevaeh's puppet serenade. She sings so beautifully! And it's good to see you working the formerly uncatchable Lexan in the round pen, Melissa. And the kids sliding down the hill on their bellies, and the horses inspecting and knocking over the camera. Looking at the pantry wall made me think that it might be a good idea to add blocking on that wall for kitchen cabinets before you install sheetrock. That way, when installing cabinets, anywhere you put a screw, you will have a solid back. I've seen many building contractors do that to save themselves time trying to find the stud. Usually a 2x8 block across, at approximate height of the bottom and top of the top cabinets and the top of the bottom cabinets.

    I homeschooled all of our kids - we have 5. When they got a bit older, we used co-ops and more social engagement stuff, and we pushed independence with getting jobs, driving, and having very few rules for them as they grew. Some are special needs, and most have been in public school for here and there as we wanted them to try it if they wished to (and they all returned to homeschooling). Now they are all 15 and up, thriving, young adults who think independently, pursuing education and vocational interests. They are beautiful adults, and I owe a lot of that to their homeschool years. It made our family unit strong, and though a few have left the nest, they return regularly and love to be here. You will never regret homeschooling and making a homestead for them to return to.

    I found one of the best things was a hayledge net suspended from the roof a dew feet from the edge of the stable and about 5' off the ground. It has to be the small hole type so they don't get a foot stuck if they should kick it somehow. It takes them ages to eat their hay. For interest I used to put a few diced carrots in there sometimes.

    • @onababona6101
      @onababona6101 2 роки тому +1

      do you mean that carrots are like ice cream/cookies for horses? :-) 🙂

    • @davidsmith663
      @davidsmith663 2 роки тому +1

      @@onababona6101 They love carrot. Best served in long slices to prevent choking. Takes them a while to eat the hay and then every now and then they get carrot. When they are shut in a stable they need to get stimulation so the more different methods you have of feeding them the better. I also used to give their hard feed in a 12" deep wall mounted bucket with an apple log in it so they had to shift the log about to get the food. This all helps to imitate the natural speed of eating and helps prevent colic.

      I can't believe your inside walls don't have insulation. Our home was built in 92 we did end up putting in extra insulation in our attic along with a solar temp regulated attic fan and on our windows which we need to replace we put up this black fabric that stops the uv ray's from coming in and heating up the house in the summer. Before we did all of that our brand new top of the line Lennox air conditioner couldn't keep up when the Temps went above 100F. Also it keeps the heat in the winter. By doing all of this our house holds in the heat and air-conditioning and our bills are extremely low. Are electric bill in the summer's which our Temps are constantly in the high 90s to 100s most of the summer and the most we paid including charging our Tesla is only 50 a month in the summer in the winter it drops to 30.00. All of are appliances our natural gas except for our stove and oven and dishwasher fridge and washer. Our water heater, furnace, and dryer are all natural gas and I forgot about our gas fireplace in our basement which we use all winter long. I don't have any solar on my house and the most our gas bill has run us in jan and feb is only 70.00. Part of while our electric is so low is I live in Utah in a city that has it's own power company that we as citizens of the city own our kilowatt price is .08cents. Also are natural gas here is unexpencivie.

      @@carlacunningham4006 in places that have cold Temps in the winter insulate the interior walls which helps keep the heat in and helps with sound proofing. It also helps to keep it cool in the summer.
      Edit: even my garage walls are insulated.

    I had to watch that part with horses a few times because those days there is not that many things that make me smile but those horses made go 🤣🤣each time.They are so intelligent!!! And they followed you home like two puppies! 🙂Melissa- that last scene YOU - galloping on Mr.L and you BOTH were smiling 🙂 One more thing, Melissa- that house is so big that you could even bring your horses inside!!!It is totally amazing - you will be getting lost inside it! Jeremiah - you are gender-outnumbered! If you do not pay attention - I think that soon you will not be able to find snacks .....or best tools....etc ! ;-) I LOVE the look of outdoors! Snow on the mountain is not covering it all- just staying in cracks creating a vision of some exotic writing..... Also- in the neck of my woods- we had RAIN in L.A. and some snow in the mountain - more is coming :-) :-)

Your family interactions are not just funny (or hilarious even) and wholesome, but are heart touching. How i wish all families would have the rapport that you all have! Sending you all my Christmas greetings of hope, joy, and peace from the Philippines!

    So exciting, y'all! I forgot about how close you were to not making the move. Funny the things we stop thinking about that once worried us deeply. I am so looking forward to seeing the walls covered and completed. That day will be here sooner than it seems. It reminds me of when my great grandparents built their retirement home and we received photos in the mail from time to time showing the progress. It was all so interesting and exciting to me even as a very little girl. Keep pushing forward, y'all. The end is closer than it seems. 😉

    When I was a kid I used to take care of race horses. With new stalls we would bring in (DG) decomposed granite and lay down a layer about 2 to 3 inches thick and tamp it down really hard. It makes a dry place for the bedding and the horses to get them off the damp ground. It will help the bedding to last longer.

    Wow it really makes a difference once you put that insulation all up in the wall cavities on the interior walls it really looks like a house now on the inside it just makes so much of a difference you can really actually start seeing it come together oh my gosh it's looking amazing I'll have gotten so much done that just made such a huge difference. It looks beautiful outside with all that snow. I hate the cold anymore but then I hate the real heat too I don't do heat hot hot temperatures give me the metal temperatures I did great with my arthritis the cold kills me and I can't take the heat in the real heat anymore. But your place is just beautiful and your house is coming along beautifully I can't wait to see what all you've chosen for the interior. Yall are building a beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. God bless yall and Merry Christmas Yall 0o

    When you both were insulating the one long wall and started at opposite ends, the only thing I could think of were the words to my favorite Diamond Rio song that talks about compromise iin a relationship and meeting in the middle. "I'd start walking your way
    You'd start walking mine
    We'd meet in the middle
    'Neath that old Georgia pine
    We'd gain a lot of ground
    'Cause we'd both give a little
    And their ain't no road to long
    When you meet in the middle." Check their song out sometime. Being from the midwest, i used to go hear them live and they quickly became my favorite country music artists.
