In my opinion, most of the Bedrock featured servers simply don't hold a candle to the console minigames. Sure there's way more minigames to play with more players in each game, but the sheer quality and soul of the console minigames simply isn't there with most Bedrock servers. The only one I can think of right now that comes close to matching the quality of the console minigames is Hive. Even with that said, it still has problems such as cheaters and toxicity amongst the players that bring it down. Its not entirely their fault, moreso the fault of Bedrock edition being easy to cheat on for other platforms such as Windows and Mobile devices. Whereas with the console minigames, there were pretty much no cheaters in sight since there were practically no hacked clients for the console editions.
Honestly the part that made the (legacy) console editions so good was the actual dedication behind it. Yeah it's still has some dedication when being developed, but it just became lost. The mini-games weren't perfect, but the love put into everything made it so good. It's just sad to see things fall apart when everything goes by in the end.

Battle was overall just lots of fun. My favorite item was the diamond knockback shovel, I used to just stay in prime locations to surprise and knock someone off of a bridge. Defintely glad that this was part of my childhood, hard to believe it was only 6 years ago.

Minecraft legacy edition has a special place in my heart. Minecraft Xbox 360 edition is where I started making Minecraft games, and I will continue my work once there’s another version out, and will finally send to mojang as a full-blown console release.
I’m 14 as of now, and I’m growing up with this game. My older cousins introduced me to Minecraft when it first released on the 360. I really wish I could reexperience legacy console in its prime when everyone would be on minigames, discovering easter eggs, etc. i remember it, but I wish i did more.
One thing i loved about the lobby is that in a secret spawn location there was a chest with elytras in it you could grab one ang glide through a small gap behind the fountain and fall into the old lobby map
I used to think that was the only way into the old lobby map, I had no idea about the fountain. Though that made it annoying since to get to that spawn, you had to win a game first.
the minigames really were the perfect answer to the console's problems with random multiplayer, unique, simple to do but with plenty of room to do more (which they did), doesn't need moderation, easy for players (even children) to play, easy to make money off with map packs (especially adding maps to the resource packs to incentivise getting them even more), they were a lot of fun
I remember running around the free battle maps by myself and playing glide for hours. Ahhh the nostalgia of not understanding how the elytra worked but playing for so long that I got a good score through sheer luck anyway.
This is another reason why console edition will always be the best minecraft edition in my eyes, and absolutely would still hold that title if it was still getting updated. I remember when these came out, hopping onto minecraft, checking out the new update, and seeing that new button. It was really the coolest thing! I never played battle or tumble very much back then because I had serious rage issues and hatred of losing, so I've never gotten any of those trophies. Now I could try and get those trophies, but man those minigames feel kinda lonely now. Glide was always my favorite, partially because of the music, but mostly because I LOVE the elytra so much! And I could play solo, and just compete against myself, not having to worry about if I won or lost. I never got super good at it, seeing speed runs of even just the free courses blow my mind, and your speed run through cavern makes me realize just how much I could improve. But it just was so magical to fly like that. I remember I would spend ages not doing anything but just flying around having fun. Someday I'd like to build a love letter to console edition. Maybe my own glide track. Maybe continue the tutorial worlds for the major updates. Its just that it takes a long time and building skill I don't have, and I understand why everyone uses world edit for those big projects. One of these days I'll get back into minecraft, though I know it will never be like how it was when I was younger. Just in general, this brings back a lot of memories of grand project ideas I wanted to do all that time ago, like adventure maps or entire worlds on the level of the mashup packs. Ah nostalgia. Maybe one day I'll actually do those things.
Cavern was probably my favorite map, the water made it hard to run away, there were a balanced amount of chests, and it was easy to find the other players to kill thanks to the size. It was the perfect size, it was amazingly built, and it was very popular.
tumble and glide were my jam. i used to love finding all the little secrets in the loading map - honestly that was the real highlight. i think minigames strength was that it felt so much more… intimate. its just you and this small group of strangers, playing together, showing off together, and exploring the map together. and just for a moment, no matter how short, you were friends. but with the public servers… every single game has a different group of people. the chat is always flooded by people you dont really care about. youre just so severed from everything. the others arent your friends - theyre either your teammates or your opponents. you arent playing with them - youre competing with them. its fun, dont get me wrong, but it isnt intimate. it isnt welcoming the same way minigames was. a couple months ago, i decided to boot up my old xbox one copy of the game, just because. i was genuinely on the verge of tears when those first notes played, as the 4j came up on the screen. i played some tumble, some battle, some glide. i won some, i lost some. i played with friends i didnt know. i played through the tutorial world. it was some of the purest joy ive felt in a long time. the memories coming back to me were so… powerful. even now im getting teary eyed. it felt was like i was coming home. thats the reason minigames were so perfect. theyre home. and any bedrock server will only be a pale imitation.
this brings up sooo MANY memories, i'm gonna share one time where in the map Castle i was an absolute beast of a monsters, i standed my ground in the dining room with iron and diamond armor with a lot of pearls or fireballs with swords axes potions etc! And i was dominating the entire server i am NOT joking when i say that the entire server teamed up to try kill me and I STILL MANAGED to win the round! Back in 2016-2019 i was a beast in Minecraft minigames, i may have lost my touch since then but the memories still stand.
*This* is the minecraft I remember, this is the mojang we all grew up with. This is a game made with passion and great care with attention to detail, and that gives the game life.
I miss the flying mini-game, it was my favourite and I played it often. When I realized it was no longer there I can easily say I cried. The game was weirdly fun even if frustrating, but I loved it and I really miss it. I also miss the lobby you could be in because I loved exploring it and finding little secrets around. I also really enjoyed the "spleef" one and everything was so fun. I was and never have been a fan of PVP but it made it more fun because it was my first-ever experience with anything spleef related. Nothing has really been able to give me that level of fun and I truly miss the two mini-games
One of my favourite memories from these minigames was the time I discovered that it's possible to escape the map on Cove (the free Battle map) on the Aquatic update by swimming up a waterfall and clipping through the roof. I was just amazed by what I had found and immediately showed all my friends, who at the time were just as passionate about these minigames as I was.
I grew up with this on the Wii U and it absolutely blows that this isn't in the Switch version, it's way more fun than the crappy servers we have now which you can't even use custom servers either
You know, there are only a few videos that are captivating enough to keep me for an hour or more, that may be because of everyone's lowered attention spans, or just me, but this was a huge nostalgia trip and I have to thank you for making this video.
I played the Minecraft Xbox 360 edition religiously since it released to about 2019 and got almost all of the mashup packs and skin packs. I loved playing it even when the game was low in players and even when Microsoft and Mojang stopped 4J from working on it i played it. The mini games were an amazing part of that game and I always had fun playing it, even if I wasn't that good.
I remember playing with my sister on the Xbox and playing the mini games. Was really fun, I had a good time playing hide and seek as bats when we both quickly lost in spleef. And I remember doing the archery minigame in the lobby.
I absolutely LOVED the minigames specifically the glide minigame. Finding secrets in the lobby and gliding through cool maps with great music. Man this was my childhood.
I remember there was a glitch in the map Cove that there was a waterfall next to the ship that had a hole that led to an area out of bounds. It was really funny because once you were in that area you couldn’t go back because it was a 1x1 hole that needed swim mode to cross so I remember trapping my friends in there and just leaving them in there for eternity until they died of starvation lol
I hope mojang will do something special for the minigame’s 10th anniversary like adding them to bedrock but let’s be honest they probably won’t do anything at all especially since Minecraft’s 15th anniversary is coming
I remember getting Minecraft for the Xbox 360, shortly after actually getting the console. I played it all the time, alone and with friends. But I would always be jealous watching DanTDM playing on PC, with mods and servers. When minigames were announced and introduced, I was ecstatic
Out of all the survival game maps presented through minigames i had 3 personal favorites: Frontier, city and shrunk, the tense run from mid on frontier to the edge of the train track to get a chest knowing full well 3 other people will do the same is a level of joy and stress uncompared by modern survival game servers, and shrunk simply took my aesthetic taste and made it into a map, i just love how it looks and how much detail was in it, cause you looked somewhere and asked yourself: "can i get there" and the answer was always yes! And to finish it off city being my second favorite, the constant stress of running roof to roof and avoiding the random fire as i get lost looking for chest and trying to avoid fights like a coward, and looking back on it, it has the same mood as a technoblade video, god rest his soul. And to even further how nice it was, the soundtrack made it very enjoyable, the constant cartoony feel of shrunk and the more tense music of frontier as i rush between town and cave to better deepen the mood along with all sorts of fun knick knacks and secrets to enjoy. (great composition, id give them all a listen)
Those games were so fun. I remember I used to play tumble a lot, both with snowballs and shovels. When Glide came out it was also pretty cool, and the maps were always so interesting. No Servers or Realms on Bedrock or Java can replicate how cool the minigames were.
Every battle map has 2 op chests. The op chests were either really hidden or hard to get to. Stone swords and enchantment iron armor whould only spawn in those chests or refilled middle chests. The op chests whould be in different spots depending on the size of the map. For example in the small map of castle the op chests are in the fountain and the bottom part of the chandelier room but in the large map their in the throne room and the top part of the chandelier room.
I still play these games with my younger siblings to this day. Even though Ive now moved out and am working a job, every time I visit home I hope on mc on our playstation with my brothers and play these mini games. Some of my favorite memories with my brothers ngl.
Never tried xbox live with others on my 360 but it was really fun to play with friends on the couch using splitscreen. I have gotten like 5 maps in totally fun to play. I hope they are brought back sometime soon.
thanks for the memories man, those 4J mini games and that tutorial world where the best parts of the old console edition, heck if not for the tutorial world I'd have never known about the nether with out a lot of digging the internet
I think it's such a shame that they were removed, I wouldn't of thought it would be too difficult for MC or 4J to make an official server with these minigames but alas they haven't decided to bring them back. 😢
Just looked it up, legacy console edition was apparently made in java, just like the PC version. Bedrock however, is made in C++. Bedrock already is having a problem porting java edition features to bedrock (and vice versa), as such. the legacy console minigames will likely not appear any time soon.
I'm so happy to see this video. Currently I'm remaking Mini Games in Bedrock with Redstone and Commands but for now I'm on a pause from it. But I feel a lot better about trying to make it.
I am getting so much nostalgic fact from this, I used to play this all the time when people were still playing it, thank you for bringing back one of my favorite modes from the console version I hope at some point in the future, it becomes somewhat known again One of the things I remember doing with some of these maps is going into a certain map and going out of bounds to hide
One of my best memories growing up was playing a 3 player split screen on my friend's large tv and joining in random lobbies together on his Xbox 360, but this one time we were on the Cavern map playing online, and I managed to get a stone or iron sword, swiftness potion, and leather boots with Depth Strider 2 I made this whole elaborate ass plan to get my friend, the last one remaining, into the center at the time of the chest restock and use the potions and the boots to move faster than he could through the water without having to worry about parkour Despite him having 2 pieces of diamond gear and a bow, my plan worked flawlessly and I won the round Looking back, it's just a great example of the soul and quality put into these minigames, where even a lesser equipped player can outthink a better prepared player
Omg I just remembered these minigames. I used to play with my brother all the time on our xbox one and we were absolutely horrible thinking redstone was a bad decoration... RIP
Ok wait did each base free map have other versions of it? I remember multiple versions of cove. Like I played yesterday and remember a different layout, but then played the same map again today and it had another layout
it would be amazing to see a mod dev re create the console minigames, or 4j doing it themselves. if mojang/microsoft added the minigames to bedrock though, i think that would give a pretty good reason to play bedrock lol
I played on the latest Wii U edition without any dlc (I don't think it had dlc), and I enjoyed the exclusive maps, the tutorial map, and mini games and wish the games could come back on Java/Bedrock realms at least! I didn't know that I could quick grab items lol. A (tiny!) project on DiamondFire is reconstructing the minigames. Some of the lobby and 1 game is ready on the server. Edit: the game is tumble!
I loved this video! I didn’t even realize how long it was until I noticed i was 40 minutes through and there was still quite a bit left. It was so good to finally learn about mini games, I was playing on pocket edition before it was bedrock so I didn’t get to experience them :(
To me, the funniest thing about the discontinuation of the Minecraft minigames, is that every song in Super Smash Bros Ultimate that comes from Minecraft cannot be heard in game at all anymore. In fact, I don't think ***any*** of those tracks can officially be heard in game anymorw
In my opinion, most of the Bedrock featured servers simply don't hold a candle to the console minigames. Nostalgia is kicking in, I used to play these mini games with my brothers and friends and it was so fun. It's sad to see them all go.
You can still play it if you still have the original disc
It was the perfect size, it was amazingly built, and it was very popular.
tumble and glide were my jam. i used to love finding all the little secrets in the loading map - honestly that was the real highlight.
i think minigames strength was that it felt so much more… intimate. its just you and this small group of strangers, playing together, showing off together, and exploring the map together. and just for a moment, no matter how short, you were friends.
but with the public servers… every single game has a different group of people. the chat is always flooded by people you dont really care about. youre just so severed from everything. the others arent your friends - theyre either your teammates or your opponents. you arent playing with them - youre competing with them. its fun, dont get me wrong, but it isnt intimate. it isnt welcoming the same way minigames was.
a couple months ago, i decided to boot up my old xbox one copy of the game, just because. i was genuinely on the verge of tears when those first notes played, as the 4j came up on the screen. i played some tumble, some battle, some glide. i won some, i lost some. i played with friends i didnt know.
i played through the tutorial world. it was some of the purest joy ive felt in a long time. the memories coming back to me were so… powerful. even now im getting teary eyed. it felt was like i was coming home.
thats the reason minigames were so perfect. theyre home. and any bedrock server will only be a pale imitation.
made me cry man 😭
The glide minigame had a sick soundtrack!
this brings up sooo MANY memories, i'm gonna share one time where in the map Castle i was an absolute beast of a monsters, i standed my ground in the dining room with iron and diamond armor with a lot of pearls or fireballs with swords axes potions etc!
You can still play it if you still have the original disc
A livestream playing the minigames would be cool!
If you have the PS4 disk, you can still play it. That disk even works on a PS5.
This video was posted to hint at 4J remaking the mini games in their next big game, right?
…right?
I really hope so, please 😢
I get so much nostalgia from all the clips, I will miss this
this is funny considering i got a notification for this video while playing a battle mini game recreation on java
Bro, glide was the GOAT. I think I got my time down to a minute twenty on the og map.
I still only play PS4 Minecraft Legacy Console Edition. I find the limitations endearing and the controls and crafting just feel right.
I got so nostalgic when the music started playing at 20:39
I never had as much fun anywhere else than rocket jumping in firework tumble
8:04 Nobody gonna mention how smooth that was
The lobby had more secrets than most escape rooms, no joke. I once spent an hour looking for them. There's just that many.
Man I miss these. I also forgot that elytra was added in 1.9
I found every secret in both lobby, 10/10 would do again in a couple years
I grew up with this on the Wii U and it absolutely blows that this isn't in the Switch version, it's way more fun than the crappy servers we have now
which you can't even use custom servers either
I loved the glide minigame, the secrets in the lobby were also really fun to find
You know, there are only a few videos that are captivating enough to keep me for an hour or more, that may be because of everyone's lowered attention spans, or just me, but this was a huge nostalgia trip and I have to thank you for making this video.
Man, that bit when you showed the lobby was so nostalgic for me. I played these minigames to death with friends from 2016 to 2018 when i was like 12.
Bro what a nostagia trip I remember playing most of the battle maps
I just wish these would be put on the marketplace
I want these back so bad. They were infinitely better than anything on any of the servers from bedrock. I miss 4J.
I can still play these on my ps4, and the music is almost too nostalgic
I remember there was a glitch in the map Cove that there was a waterfall next to the ship that had a hole that led to an area out of bounds. It was really funny because once you were in that area you couldn’t go back because it was a 1x1 hole that needed swim mode to cross so I remember trapping my friends in there and just leaving them in there for eternity until they died of starvation lol
This video made me so happy
I feel bad for all the people who never got to experience these maps because they were genuinely so fun
21:44 nope, the new lobby map came in 2017 together with glide map!
Ii have so many memories of playing these with my brother because we didn't have Xbox online
yea this is just so iconic i just want it back
PS4 edition minigames with the boys was unbeatable.
The stone sword with fire aspect 2 was cooking up EVERYONE
I think it was "intentional" because 4J knew that Bedrock was coming to switch soon.
I am to this day fustrated that console edition was discontinued. Imo it is still the best edition of Minrcraft
I knew this but the nostalgic hits so hard
Never like battle much , loved glide, became the best at one point
the music brings back so many memories
I remember playing these on my xbox 360 it was really fun to play with friends locally.
Good times....
God, i loved the minigames. I'd give almost anything to go back and play battle arena again.
theres still a lot of people playing, i still find matches on the ps vita edition of the game
@ibxtoycat, there’s a team rebuilding all these games and the legacy version as a Java mod!
I still play these games with my younger siblings to this day. Even though Ive now moved out and am working a job, every time I visit home I hope on mc on our playstation with my brothers and play these mini games. Some of my favorite memories with my brothers ngl.
4J: "Here's Minigames"
Also 4J 1 year later: "Here's a completely new version of the game that is nothing like the original and is hindered by mobile"
Hope he heard of LEM, a java server that has the battle minigame ported pretty good. (I believe someone called @DBTDerpbox, Emmie, created it)
Cool
What's the IP?
@@JmKrokY It’s closed alpha, but you can request for access on the website
big if true
@@cement_eater Is true.
Never tried xbox live with others on my 360 but it was really fun to play with friends on the couch using splitscreen. I have gotten like 5 maps in totally fun to play. I hope they are brought back sometime soon.
Same for me, splitscreen was so good
thanks for the memories man, those 4J mini games and that tutorial world where the best parts of the old console edition, heck if not for the tutorial world I'd have never known about the nether with out a lot of digging the internet
I think it's such a shame that they were removed, I wouldn't of thought it would be too difficult for MC or 4J to make an official server with these minigames but alas they haven't decided to bring them back. 😢
You can still play it if you still have the original disc it boots up to bedrock then you hit the editions button and it brings you to the old version
Festive one looks like the one that normally came with thefestive map
This video was one of the biggest nostalgia hits ive had in a long time...
Just looked it up, legacy console edition was apparently made in java, just like the PC version. Bedrock however, is made in C++. Bedrock already is having a problem porting java edition features to bedrock (and vice versa), as such. the legacy console minigames will likely not appear any time soon.
im in tears rn, this takes me back
Just a game theory : 4j is gonna release a featured server on Bedrock Edition with modes similar to Battle, Tumble & Glide.
Thank you for bringing back many memories of me trying to get all mob heads, all armor sets and all music disks and playing the minigames
I'm so happy to see this video. Currently I'm remaking Mini Games in Bedrock with Redstone and Commands but for now I'm on a pause from it. But I feel a lot better about trying to make it.
You brought back so many memories, very well made! And you also managed to keep me entertained for an hour!
tldr. it's because of greed, laziness, and treating players as numbers. micro transactions first, updates second, players are an afterthought honestly
I am getting so much nostalgic fact from this, I used to play this all the time when people were still playing it, thank you for bringing back one of my favorite modes from the console version
I hope at some point in the future, it becomes somewhat known again
One of the things I remember doing with some of these maps is going into a certain map and going out of bounds to hide
One of my best memories growing up was playing a 3 player split screen on my friend's large tv and joining in random lobbies together on his Xbox 360, but this one time we were on the Cavern map playing online, and I managed to get a stone or iron sword, swiftness potion, and leather boots with Depth Strider 2
I made this whole elaborate ass plan to get my friend, the last one remaining, into the center at the time of the chest restock and use the potions and the boots to move faster than he could through the water without having to worry about parkour
Despite him having 2 pieces of diamond gear and a bow, my plan worked flawlessly and I won the round
Looking back, it's just a great example of the soul and quality put into these minigames, where even a lesser equipped player can outthink a better prepared player
I remember raging at the flying one 😭
you are not alone

I loved playing the glide mini game so much, that I’ve spent half a year making mods, and creating the maps to try and remake this masterpiece
it would be amazing to see a mod dev re create the console minigames, or 4j doing it themselves. if mojang/microsoft added the minigames to bedrock though, i think that would give a pretty good reason to play bedrock lol
Might play on my on my Xbox now...
I loved this video! I didn’t even realize how long it was until I noticed i was 40 minutes through and there was still quite a bit left. It was so good to finally learn about mini games, I was playing on pocket edition before it was bedrock so I didn’t get to experience them :(
Dig ( 18:01 ) actually was one that lead me to want more discovery-based lore in normal Minecraft
Multiplayer split screen was such a nice feature that most games don’t have
To me, the funniest thing about the discontinuation of the Minecraft minigames, is that every song in Super Smash Bros Ultimate that comes from Minecraft cannot be heard in game at all anymore. In fact, I don't think ***any*** of those tracks can officially be heard in game anymorw
i remember coming home from school in second grade and playing these games the good old days
Honestly surprised you didn’t talk about it’s custom soundtrack. The song “double time” was amazing!
I love exploring the lobby and people with similar skins would team and help each other
This is so nostalgic. I especially miss Glide, that game was so fun
