    Thank you for being so vocal about everything you ran into, also getting great camera angles. Being this job requires many steps in breakdown, it was perfect seeing what's needed in a way that makes it something I can accomplish with confidence.

    Thanks Gerb! I'm going to have to do this tomorrow. Turned on my car and had a whining noise all of a sudden. Mechanics stethoscope placed on alternator helped me narrow it down to the alternator. The alternator also running almost 100 degrees hotter than anything else around it based on my laser temp gun. It should be straight forward after watching your vid. Many thanks!

      @@TheGerbsteve It's done buddy. Less than 2 hours. Removal of the fan shroud created so much space to work and get the parts in and out. Instead of removing the entire serpentine belt, I just took it off the idler pulley and alternator and moved it slightly to the side. The belt went back on so easy and didn't have to fiddle with trying to get it around the crank and compressor. Once you get to the alternator it's a real easy bolt-off/bolt-on job. Most of the work is removing things to create the space to work.

    Awesome!!! I have an '06 that's still going, but I'm pretty sure the alternator is whining. The EPS triggered while on the highway, and the radio has been flippy since I got the car a couple years ago. I don't drive the car much, but I want to take care of her.

    Great video wish I saw earlier, it was sooo tight. I moved the AC line a bit and removed the top pulley and JUST had enough space to get it out w/o removing the rad support but it took many tries

    Thanks from the UK man, unless I had seen this I would never have believed it could come out this way. I ended up taking the support clip from the AC pipe off as well and that gave me a tiny bit of flex I needed to get the alternator past, it was a tight fit though. Thanks again, huge help.

    Dude u saved me on the clutch so I’m back, got a whiney noise ... told it could be the serpentine belt or alternator. Mechanic put on wd40 on the tensioner and it reduced the noise but still there faintly. Any suggestions ??!

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  6 років тому

      Start small bro, replace the idler tensioner, see if that makes a difference. You could take the alternator off and get it tested to be safe, but just because it reads good for voltage, doesn't mean that it is 100% good. I believe there is bearings inside the alternator that fail. You can stick a long screwdriver against each mechanism and listen for noise. My vote is the AC compressor. Our cars are known for them to fail frequently.

  • @user-kc6ts4ck1l
    @user-kc6ts4ck1l 5 років тому

    Hey, I got some weird problems on my si 07, while driving the radio just turn off one second and restart like I just open the accessories.. so i test my battery with an multimeter to see if the alternator still charging it and it goes to 14.3v with no accessories and 14.1v with all accessories to 13v when the cooling fan goes on. The radio also close while i'm not driving and the cooling fan kicks in. Now, two days ago I can hear kind of whistle sound from the interior of the vehicule when all the engine is hot and i'm not driving it. Can it be the alternator ?

    • @TheGerbsteve
      @TheGerbsteve  5 років тому

      Could be an alternator or ac compressor.

    • @samhan7048
      @samhan7048 5 років тому

      Do you have aftermarket radio? If so recheck wiring. If it’s a whining sound from speakers you have a grounding issue.

    First mistake I saw you make was the plastic clips you need the Lisle clip remover tool to preserve those clips so that you don't have to buy more. You also need a belt removal too hft 20 bucks goes a long way
