Thanks for the video, the cracks are not a big deal unless pieces start falling off. There is a wear/stretch indicator on the tensioner. A small triangle points at a rectangle, if it's stretched too far the triangle will point outside that rectangle part of casting. But such a cheap and easy maintenance item, may as well do it at 100,000 or so and keep old one in with spare tire for emergency spare if regular one snapped due to some reason.
FWIW on the tension assembly there is a little index pointer, and it points to a little range "rectangle" showing if the belt has stretched too much. as long as pointer is still in that range even with some minor cracking of ribs you should still be good. If there were areas of the ribs missing then I would do it for sure. The real strength is in the fiber woven and reinforced flat part of belt. But it's such a cheap easy repair no harm in doing it proactively.
I was replacing my idler pulley and my belt slid off the crank pulley....not sure how??? Can I just release the tension and just place over the crank pulley and then set it over the idler?? The belt appears to be still wrapped around the other areas.
Getting the new belt on is always such a hassle for me. I took the old one off 3 times and was able to put it on no issue but whenever I get a new belt it’s such a pain in the ass I usually have my brother help me get it on
I’ve had it for about 3 years.... I think that the idler tightened up somehow and wore out the belt. Plus being in cold and warm weather doesn’t help much either.
Going to replace my belt when it arrives. Thanks for showing everything so clearly! This is a really helpfull video. I did order a cheap tool to help me out releasing the tensioner pulley. Looks that you removed some plastic parts.. did you need to remove any plastic covers and is it required to get the belt on there ?
Well, I had a bad ac compressor, bad idler/tensioner pulley, and starter, so i replaced all of those items. Now I believe that my alternator is on its way out.
Is the Honda belt quieter? I noticed a kind of low toned cycling noise with the gates belt when I changed it a good while ago. The kind of noise only the driver of the vehicle would distinguish cuz my wife couldn’t notice it.
@@melvinjubay If it's outside the line, then I would assume the belt is stretched past it's recommended wear limit. The only way it can be out in the tight direction would be if a non-stock pully was on one of the accessories, or the wrong belt was previously put on. I would not sweat it if it's close, but it's such a simple and cheap thing to change. for $25 I would just put a new one on.
@@jayc4283 nah mate I just replaced the belt. I replaced the belt and it was out of the line on the too tight side then I replaced the pulleys hoping it was the problem but it’s still the same. I really think it’s the belt but I couldn’t be bothered now , made 70k kms with it already.
This is super super easy compared to the non SI civics. I’ve seen people have to remove alternators, water pump pulleys, wheels, even remove motor mounts and raise then lower the engine. Sheesh
I’d have to agree with you on that! On my 2001 civic, you need to remove a ton of crap. The hardest part about this is getting it back on because the belt and pulleys are sooo tight under there.
Gerb Productions www.hondapartswholesaledirect.com Honda parts now is another good one, you could probably get it cheaper if you shopped around or bought a used one from a pull off, but I needed it quick so new was the way to go
Thanks brother for this. I'm no mechanic but after watching your video, I'm now a certified mechanic.
Neither am I… you have officially been certified lol
@Gerb Productions I just purchased this same car(what yearisyours)...needs a lil tlc, hopefully when I finish. May be similar to yours.
I’m glad you said what tools we needed and really a step by step💪🏽
I just pressed out the bearing and reused the pulley body. $12.50 for the bearing. Thanks for the videos- they have been quite helpful.
And Gerb saves the day again, thank you.
No problem man 🤙🏼

I noticed that there are two rectangles one higher than the other. Which of the two would indicate if the belt has stretched ?
hahahaha, I just posted that exact same thing. agree 100% cheers !!!

changing my belt for the second time, my oem crapped on me :S
im glad i have this video to refer back too
hi we meet again lol. my crankshaft pulley dryrotted and took my belt with it. lol
This was really helpful thank you man .

It can be, but usually takes me like 20 mins or so to do. I've also done it like 6X lol
I recently changed my idler pulley and wondering why my belt is moving a little from left right ther is no vibration or noises though
Thanks for the video Gerb. How long did you have the gates belt on for? Do you think the pulley wore out the belt faster?

I’m gonna make a video of my 09civic si soon on my channel. I love this car!😃
The grass has always sketched me out bro. Car might sink or something. Hopefully you get that storage
Either that or lay some plywood down 🤣... But seriously, I need a unit 👌🏼

@Gerb Productions how long does this take to install??? 30 mins?
20-45 depending how fast your are
Thank you for the video man!
It was helpful!
Glad it helped!
Great video this helped me out a lot 🔥👍
Np my dude 🙏🏼
What type of fuel do you put into your civic si?
91 or 93 octane
DAMN BRO THOSE WHEELS ARE MINT!
Thanks bro ski 🙏🏼
Thanks for the video man good detail and information

Yes. Honda belt seems to be quieter and more quality. We shall see how long it lasts 🤙🏼
Hi friend what is the number or code of the band?
it's in the video, hit pause
Are you using OEM belt and idler and alternator?
Yeah, everything is oem
Gracias por el video me fue de mucha ayuda
i just replace the bearing but i like your vid
Hey mate, can you adjust the tensioner? I think my belt is too tight.
No, it's a spring loaded tensioner. if tensioner can move freely, it can't be too tight
@@BurkaLifter my tensioner is still out of the recommended line. I just live with it, so far all good.

Where did you get the sun screen from for the windshield? Been having a hard time looking for one
Amazon my guy
What wheels do you have for your car??
Xxr 527’s
Get a bando one. Honda uses bando belts for oem and are cheaper
Next time bro set it up and start on the top make sure youre holding on that tensioner and line it up last on the crank pulley
What key number do I use to move the tensioner
the one he says in the video

Need to grab me some ud pulleys when mine ends up being swapped. Though this one on the fa5 maybe newer
I looked into them awhile ago. I’m just gonna wait until I get my k24 😎
did they have the belt in stock at honda or have to order it?
Honda Dealers should have it. The one i went to had mine
how many miles on her?
192k 💪🏼
Enough he should get a k24
Yes I should 💪🏼
Great video.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Good video 😎
Thanks for the visit
Careful bro super sketched seeing you work on dirt.
Definitely go easy on that idler pully bracket, I busted mine when doing an ac delete on my ep3, ended up being like a 70 dollar part online.
Where’d you end up buying it?
