"A magic that depended on its intimacy, of course; on the acoustics; but, above all, on the reciprocity. Between each song, Justin took a few minutes to talk to us, telling us how happy they were to be there, on that particular night, with such a small crowd..."

Funny enough, this video was filmed around 2 months before I was born...but I seem to find a strong sense of nostalgia from the way in which the video was filmed and from the music...this will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I totally relate, It was filmed almost a year after i was born yet i feel so nostalgic watching it. I find myself coming back to this every few months. It's unreal
Just read your comment. Fuck, I am old.
@@brynwest4495same 😂
Doesn’t matter when you’re listening to this. This will always feel like home.
If heartbreak is home then you are correct.
If any of yall somehow get here in 2019 and beyond, bless yall
Here I am.
Almost 2020! Happy New Year
Yeehaw!
2020: COVID 19 is here.
Bless you bro from 2020
Part of me wants to say that this version is better than the original. Musically wise, I would say that's true. But there is something about the original recording; the creakiness, the footsteps in the background, the vocals that go flat in parts and the lack of professional production that gives it so much character, and the rawness of it makes it honest and so special in comparison to a lot of other music. I will always love this band for the honesty that they portray, not only in their lyrics, but in their recordings and the music itself
couldn't agree more. the story behind the album contributes equally as much effect also
This version has background noise and all that and even way more of it
their harmonization is always so undeniably beautiful.
Omg. More than a decade ago.
Im sure your life would've changed so much.
the thing that gets me the most about Bon Iver (or anything that justin does) is that even the mistakes just add more to the music. he can't do anything wrong. i'm convinced that he could drop his pants and take a shit on his guitar in the middle of a song, and it would still be beautiful and intimate.
i also think that the reason he is so lovable is that he seems like just an ordinary guy that anyone can relate to. he seems totally approachable. he's the embodiment of everyone's hidden beauty..
I want an infinite loop of Justin simply jamming random songs to be permanently playing in my head.
This would probably be the greatest experience of my life.
Just a casual day with musical legends...
The lyrics for Flume... all of his songs really are just... they're amazing.
I'm here in 2021 yall. Bon iver is such a life changing band and this video is so good. I would cry if I could see this.
This recording rips my heart out..beautifully.
0:10 "Wait, take the picture again, Justin Vernon was in my shot."
The man who made me start writing songs
👏❤️
best song ever, best version ever, period
I'm watching this in January 2021 in the midst of another lockdown and miss getting together with people like that. A dozen or more open hearts and minds listening to the mesmerizing sounds of this music - completely present in the here and now. There was always bad stuff going in the world, but somehow I miss the innocence and naivety of that time. Let's hope we can meet again without worries and risks soon.
right there with you
gosh if i ran into them singing I would melt and go to heaven
Get shivers everytime I hear this band play live. Just amazing.
back here after more than a decade 😊 see you again, future me.
You've got the best videos. I spend hours just cruising through all of your videos. The National, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, etc...
Thank you very much for these, it is very much appreciated. Great intimate moments captured in time! Please please please keep up the great work!
Mikeys voice makes me quiver with excitement! You all amaze me. I truly understand everything you do. Thanks again!
This is the closest that Bon Iver has ever done something like NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts
Just unbelievably beautiful
I think it's simply music at its finest. Beautiful vocally, musically, soulfully....if you appreciate music, you will appreciate Bon Iver. Their music really penetrates the surface and lingers on the soul.
I wish the song at the start Justin had played all the way through, so beautiful!
Thanks buddy!
What song is it?
@@bley99 olive hearts by Bowerbirds
to be able to sing like this live is incredible
yeah! I noticed too! its "i am my mother's only one" and i guess he just wasnt focused. but he recovered, and yeah same, the man is a genius so idc if he messed up the first line, he still rocks.
when listening to a song like this, a dissonance in the music is necessary. this is great.
this song is so beautiful it makes me cry. i can't even handle it.
listening to this song is like traveling in another world
I am my mother's only one
It's enough
I wear my garment so it shows
Now you know
Only love is all maroon
Gluey feathers on a flume
Sky is womb and she's the moon
I am my mother on the wall
With us all
I move in water, shore to shore
Nothing's more
Only love is all maroon
Lapping lakes like leery loons
Leaving rope burns, reddish ruse
Only love is all maroon
Gluey feathers on a flume
Sky is womb and she's the moon
No phones to destroy the moment.
3:13 that little grin of Michael just made my day
"This is my kind of thing. This is what you dream about...". How awesome must have been to hear that, great moment!
i really love the mood of all of their songs, it's so perfect
still amazing 14 years later
6:05 Justin hits himself in the face with the guitar and I still had goosebumps all over
Blows my mind.
man, this vibe is everything. wish i were joined in
This reminds me of a scene from the movie "Once"; just a group of people huddled together listening to a beautiful tune, for the simple fact that it's bound to be good for the soul.
Olive Hearts by Bowerbirds at the beginning. That's awesome.
Spreading the love.
probably the most beautiful song of all time.
Every.Single.Time.
Brilliant.
@qwertybl0b Thanks - and seeing as I am probably a geriatric amongst the Bon Iver fan population and I hail from the southwest coast of Ireland it shows how their music and performance reaches a huge spectrum of people on so many levels - great to get to share some of their magic.
When I watch this video I like imagining myself sitting on that floor on that moment after a long trip just to watch them.
Couldn't agree more. Unless you go to a loud rock show or something. I saw Abe Vigoda live, and no one could speak because the music was so loud. It was perfect.
Love the use of melodica. Badass.
saving me time and time again.
i love this song more and more everything i listen to it.
Imagine being in that room. "chills"
i love you Bon Iver and Justin !!!!!!!!!!! i'm crazy about this music ... no no
beautiful start
6:04 leaked footage of me playing the guitar
I love that he starts out covering Bowerbirds.
@SkotNewbower I think's it's their sincerity - they genuinely LOVE the music, the creation, the process, the experience, the sharing through the music and there is absolutely no ego whatsoever involved. It's pure and sincere and true - that's how it connects so deeply The back-to-basics approach to musical expression with no dressing, no processing, no filtering - just a shared true experience that their audience seems so a part of. O to share such an intimate gig with them.
What makes Bon Iver so popular within the counter culture music world? It is simple. Humans have natural instincts. We can sense danger. We can sense a shift in attitudes. And we can sense artistic genius. Like God tapping us on the shoulder and saying "Hey... that. That is my doing." We instinctively know, this is beyond ordinary. It is why the word extraordinary exists... to define the fortunate discovery of that which is uniquely brilliant. That is Bon Iver.
simply perfect!
melodica = perfection! god, i wish i was there!!!
If only, I dream of stumbling through the streets and ending up playing at a party.
what a talent.
I was so happy that I found out without wanting to find out what is the song at the start and I've got here and see that someone posted 7 months ago ¬¬
#fail
Glad to claim him as American! Best sound in a looooong time! Love it
Beautifully done...
I love how Justin plays Phil Moore's music in these Blogotheques. First Drunkmare on the For Emma one, and now Olive Hearts on this one...
I can't find this artist anywhere
thats genius right there friend
Unreal.
thats the best part
MAGIC!!!
Makes you feel good.
@KensingtonSam I KNOW WHAT, did he just improve the beginning? It's so beautiful.
Simplemente hermoso
Amazing
2020 needs this
Thank you!
i miss how the world was, 14 years ago
@ilovemutemath I was trying to figure out who that cover was off, thanks so much for telling me. Bowerbirds are brilliant, One of my ideal gigs would be Bon Iver, (with the full line up, not just Justin) Bowerbirds and Megafaun, all at a gig like this, that would be amazing!
Oh my goosh at 6:07 he kind of wacks himself in the face with his guitar. amazingly funny.
This comment is a decade old
I would give my legs to be in that room at that time.
melodicas are amazing
Ils ont vraiment l'air d'apprécier l'endroit où ils jouent.
Thanks heaps brother.
I love his little bag haha
omg amazing bowerbirds cover!
Precioso :)
2020❤️
omg yes you're right!!!
Boy, this is deep.
why am i crying?
@0806322f At the start Justin's playing a song called Olive Hearts by Bowerbirds, fantastic band themselves.
wow, i wish bon iver came to my parties:)
@elmatto2006 Couldn't agree more. And I love the fact that Justin himself isn't religious, because it just goes to prove that religion & faith really has nothing to do with everything beautiful and wonderful in this world.
Michael Noyce and Sean Carey. They're both still with the band, as recently as Bonnaroo, to my knowledge.
Bon Iver is the shit. this is true music
E eu aqui na quarentena de 2020
2021
enjoying in march 2021, anyone else?
Whats the song at the beginning of the video that he's singing?
Well one could argue that just making noise is, in fact, improv. It's not written music so therefore it is being improvised, even if it is not pleasent.
I seriously need to move to Paris
i love you :(
