I love how ironic the line "What might've been lost dont bother me" becomes as the song gets louder and louder, more and more emotional with screaming, shouting, almost cry in pain, like saying to yourself I dont care but deep down you know you do and it hurts a lot. this is why Bon Iver is great.
Justin is a once in a lifetime artist. His draw is undeniable. And he has a lot of other incredible projects. Bon Iver is his crown jewel imo. He provides comfort, but also a painful and obvious frustration. It’s angry. Passionate. Yet he’s built such a delicate delivery of all of these intense and destructive emotions. It’s the 8th wonder of the world, honestly.
this whole album (and his music in general) just speaks truth. he holds both the truth that what might’ve been lost doesn’t bother him AND the pain/ grief of it not bothering him anymore
love how messy and raw the ending is. like watching someone go through a heart break or have a melt down, it's almost difficult to witness but beautiful in a way.
Whenever you hear Bon Iver do something, be it normal or strange, just know that it is almost always intended. Bon Iver have always been more than just sound - they have always included so much more imagery and symbolism to their music. They exceed most bands in that sense.
I love how Justin played this for the encore in the show he did in HK, he made everyone since during the part "what might have been lost".. He told us to sing like it was "the championships and no body loses" :)
Christine That's what's up. Love this song to end "The Place Beyond The Pines" & just to end "I Am Heath Ledger." That's so amazing you were there. Cheers!
Literally my favorite song of all time . For me it it emits so much emotion and you can feel the heartbreak. Such a beautiful piece and it saddens me that I'll never see them perform
They are one of the very few bands who blow away a live show. It was a completely different experience than the album. I haven't given up hope, though, that they'll play again. Bon Iver is magic. I hope you get to see them some day. Look out for Vernon's Eu Claire music festival next summer. He's curating the entire thing so maybe Bon Iver will make an appearance.
***** missed Bon Iver when they came to my town, then went to Boston Calling to see Volcano Choir, as justin took the stage they called off the show because of a nearing storm. i feel cursed...haha, but i, like you, haven't given up hope.
Update- I’ve seen them the woman I’m gonna marry bought me tickets for our two year anniversary and they played this song. I knew them and there she was the one. A magical moment.
Today is 9 yrs since my dad died of cancer and this was the first song and video I listened to after he died. It still makes me ugly cry. But in a good way, I guess. A safe place to feel all the hurt and sorrow of losing a parent.
Amy Giles that's a really cool reason to do so. not cool, but i really respect the meaning, you know? i genuinely hope things look up for you. a lot to live for dude. take care
i come back to this video every couple years once i have sufficiently forgotten about it and it hits me all over again. hurts so good every single time
He’s coming to Australia soon. I’ve been obsessed for years but i have nobody to go with... guess that’s no reason to miss it. Truly an incredible artist
I remember hearing this song after watching my dad pass away…I was leaving the hospital…hadn’t cried till I starting pulling out of the hospital drive way and this song broke any masculinity effort I had to hold it together and pulled the truck over and just cried it out. Beautiful song
Dear god...the way his back-up guys harmonize is glorious. I can't even tell y'all how badly I wish I was in the room, so I could experience this first-hand. Wow.
Someday my pain, someday my pain Will mark you Harness your blame, harness your blame And walk through With the wild wolves around you In the morning, I'll call you Send it farther on Solace my game, solace my game It stars you Swing wide your crane, swing wide your crane And run me through And the story's all over you In the morning I'll call you Can't you find a clue when your eyes are all painted Sinatra blue What might have been lost What might have been lost What might have been lost What might have been lost (don't bother me) What might have been lost (don't bother me) What might have been lost (don't bother me) What might have been lost (don't bother me) What might have been lost (don't bother me) What might have been (don't bother me) (what might have been lost) What might have been lost (don't bother me) (what might have been) What might have been lost (don't bother me) What might have been lost What might have been lost What might have been lost Ah Ah Someday, my pain Someday, my pain Someday, my pain Someday, my pain
I cry every time I listen to this song. It is beautiful and captivating and it is all together painful. If you've ever had your heart broken by someone else whom know longer wants to see you ....then you understand the line "don't bother me" Love this
Many of those of us that have a dad that we didn't know or barely remember from childhood as a result of him abandoning us or being killed surely saw this movie and shed a tear or 2...great song...for me always linked to those of us that wonder about our dads.
remains my favorite song by them. how they (justin specially since he did this one all by him self) portrait emotion, pain, chaos and peace all in least than 6 min it will always amaze me. i just love how quiet and low his voice is at the begning and the bridge is just loud and messy noise
I found this video about ten years ago and it was my introduction to the band. This was always my favorite rendition of the song until I finally got to hear it live the other night. Such an incredible experience.
I love when they just go all out with the instruments. It makes me think they are actually feeling the music they play, rather than just belt out some notes in a sequence and call it a song.
That place where they just try to hit everything in reach with everything they can, that's just chaos music man! I was playong tetris listening to the Bon Iver soundtrack, when suddenly that part comes up. I lost entire game cause of the destructive composition of the music. Man! that is i'll how you can do that. Chaos and harmony in one song.

Justin Vernon is perfect, This version is raw and passionate -especially the live harmony- . But that Joint, is something I'd love to share with all of these men.

This..exactly..
DAMNNN ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

S.Carey deserves so much credit for the brilliance of Bon Iver’s sound. He just knows how to complement Justin so well, such a beautiful thing.
who is that? apologies for my ignorance... and for being to lazy to google it lol
Jordan Belton he’s the other guy you see right at the beginning. He’s been with Justin ever since the beginning and is still with him!
@@lynch7676 Thanks, man!
Yes, S. Carey is an amazing musician.
And both, Justin and him are such hotties.
Probably the only guy except justin to ever been known to exist in the band
You people are so lucky to have been present for this.
Same :'-(
love how messy and raw the ending is. like watching someone go through a heart break or have a melt down, it's almost difficult to witness but beautiful in a way.
even just the lighting in the video makes me cry
bilbogaybear thats a lot of feelings from a gay bear...
That "don't bother me" at 3:30 though...so perfect
yes! that part enraptured me, I wanted to hear it over and over it again, it would be nice to end a song, perhaps hear a studio version... so lovely
Whenever you hear Bon Iver do something, be it normal or strange, just know that it is almost always intended. Bon Iver have always been more than just sound - they have always included so much more imagery and symbolism to their music. They exceed most bands in that sense.
It's just one guy 😅
@@gabriellperry its not lmao
@@owenwhite8053 the first album is mainly just him but every other album is multiple people. Pretty sure almost everything is written by Justin tho
I love the cameramanship. The slow panning from his face outward to the back of the room made me feel like I was there.
I love how Justin played this for the encore in the show he did in HK, he made everyone since during the part "what might have been lost".. He told us to sing like it was "the championships and no body loses" :)

They are not the same anymore I'm sorry to say.
Same, 5 years later. One of the most beautiful, poignant songs about heartbreak ever written.
A safe place to feel all the hurt and sorrow of losing a parent.
those harmonies are on point
Mikey is so underrated! A fundamental piece of early bon iver. Great musician!
agree his vocals are insane, top musician
Genuinely one of the best things I've ever seen.
You could hear the pain between the drum and the guitar, so beautiful
"what might have been lost" i have this line tattooed on me it means so much to me
XXX i got it because i tried to kill myself and its a reminder not to try again
Amy Giles that's a really cool reason to do so. not cool, but i really respect the meaning, you know? i genuinely hope things look up for you. a lot to live for dude. take care
Noah Barahona thank you so much that is so nice of you. You take care too!
Me too!!!
Amy Giles i hope u r okay :) this comment us rlly beautiful
I just love the way they feel the vocals and strings. Beautiful musicians.
Those people in that room really witnessed something special. I hope that they could appreciate it; this is truly something.
So jealous of everyone in that room getting to experience this amazing song.
i come back to this video every couple years once i have sufficiently forgotten about it and it hits me all over again. hurts so good every single time
Today for me.
The emotional resonance of loss and sadness is beautifully portrayed in this song of the Soul. It’s art.
He’s coming to Australia soon. I’ve been obsessed for years but i have nobody to go with... guess that’s no reason to miss it. Truly an incredible artist
this song still kills after all these years.
GaryO4 still does.
still does.
Still does !
Still does!
still does
Holy shit, those first notes took my heart and dipped into some strong emotions. Holy shit, I teared up, that was beautiful!
This is possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever heard....
Je t'aime Bon Iver!
Even if this was 5 minutes they made it feel like a decade.
Their music is captivating.
that girl sitting in the window has as beautiful a smile as i ever saw, just amazing.
I remember hearing this song after watching my dad pass away…I was leaving the hospital…hadn’t cried till I starting pulling out of the hospital drive way and this song broke any masculinity effort I had to hold it together and pulled the truck over and just cried it out. Beautiful song
When I listen to this, I feel like I know every soul in that room.
it's a summer in paris and you're cramped into an apartment listening to bon iver live. c'est la vie
this bands' music makes me want to leave everything behind and drive far far away into the woods in search of a new life.
I love this more than the Album version. Just how raw it is just makes it all that more beautiful.
Its cool how even though this song is in a completlely diffrent tuning, he still found a way to play it in standard. underated guitarist.
I USED TO WATCH THIS ALL THE TIME! I am SO happy to have found it again!
Dear god...the way his back-up guys harmonize is glorious. I can't even tell y'all how badly I wish I was in the room, so I could experience this first-hand. Wow.
The greatest thing to ever happen in a room.
Someday my pain, someday my pain
Will mark you

And walk through
With the wild wolves around you
In the morning, I'll call you

Love this
"what might've been lost"
chills to the max
I always come back here just to appreciate everything about this
From time to time I come back here. This is incredible. The song itself is beautiful and haunting, but this setting ads a lot to it. Love it to bits!
holy shit, dat harmony at 1:50
I love the way in all the videos I have watched, the band is just jamming in a room with a few friends. So awesome
I love it from 10 years.
The More and more i listen to bon ivers songs the more and more i love them!!
No matter how old they are!
Their harmonies are just bloody amazing!
Heard this song in The place beyond the pines, they really nailed it
Many of those of us that have a dad that we didn't know or barely remember from childhood as a result of him abandoning us or being killed surely saw this movie and shed a tear or 2...great song...for me always linked to those of us that wonder about our dads.
Something so profound and spiritual about this video, man
I was about to cry because of how beautiful this is. So envious of the people in that room.
I love when it pans out and you see everyone there... just to be apart of something like that..ahhh
One of the best concerts ive seen in a long time.....
ah I love the panning in this video, it even goes to the back where a chilled out al pacino is surveying the area.
3,05 and forward gives me goosebumps everytime i watch this.
It's beyond beautiful.
Huge
Wild wolves really do surround us.
In the fake plastic world we can still find a rare diamond like Bon Iver...these guys know wats going on
Underappreciated song and underappreciated band
Music is magical when it is like this.
They have become one of my new favorite bands because of the passion behind their words. Yo ucan feel it when you listen to them.
the harmonies are just so lovely. they sound incredible
I love this song. I am obsessed with it.
Bon Iver has amazing talent.

New album in June! Soooooooo pumped! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!
The guy with the black hair just adds that that extra bit of magic
I found this video about ten years ago and it was my introduction to the band. This was always my favorite rendition of the song until I finally got to hear it live the other night. Such an incredible experience.
Can’t be more in love with this song
This is so good, I am crying.
It does that to me, too...
Best harmony ever. literally full stop
YOURE AWESOME
Seen them in 09 at the fox theater in Oakland, so fortunate I got to see the last round of the tour for their first album.
The falsetto and harmonies they sing with suit the song really well.
Do you remember when life was so simple and beautiful?
I can't put into words how this song makes me feel.
I love the take away shows because it shows that in a sense the world is a stage.
I love when they just go all out with the instruments. It makes me think they are actually feeling the music they play, rather than just belt out some notes in a sequence and call it a song.
I get chills every time I listen/watch this. simply amazing.
I wish there concerts were this intimate :(
Wow. That guy next to him has an amazing voice. This is Awesome
Sean carey
best afterparty EVER.
You can feel the energy in this it's beautiful

I still get goosebumbs listening to this song live!
wow this is the greatest video on youtube i think
This guy is a genius
Sean has a good voice, but mike and justin's are absolutely perfect together, their voices made for each other.
real and raw, raw and touching, touching and real
i dont know if i like better Bon Iver or LaBlogotheque.
this here is piece of art!
thank you for that!
I just listened to this song for the first time when now I'm 20 years old
nice cover, please keep in your hearts Venezuela, because this song relates to the suffering in Venezuela
