Health Update - Going In For Procedures. Preparing For A Colonoscopy Gastroscopy. Lara Joanna Jarvis

- OPEN FOR IMPORTANT INFO! Health update - I'm going in for procedures. For anyone else going through these procedures I thought it might be helpful to show how to prepare for a Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, duodenoscopy and what to expect!
IMPORTANT - I want to note here as I was meaning to say in the last video but in the emotion of it all I totally forgot, that I paid £150 to use Stuart’s work private health policy so that I could help get some answers. I thought it was well worth the investment to pay this money to get some scopes done.
Following on from my last health update where I got a date to have some investigations into my stomach issues I thought I'd share how to prepare for a colonoscopy as well as an endoscopy under sedation.
Thank you so much for all of your amazing support on my last health update, let's hope I get some answers from this colonoscopy, gastroscopy and duodenoscopy!

I had a colonoscopy Friday, that stuff to drink is gross but the sedation is brilliant… hope you get the answers you deserve Lara, it’s been long enough for you now… sending lots of love from Wales x
Thanks for your honesty. I do this every year for crohns and I’ll admit it’s not the highlight of my 12 months! Hope all went well for you X
Just watching this now while struggling to get the bowl prep drink down. Its absolute vile. X
Hi Lara, thanks for honest review, having mine tomorrow, not worried, just been dreading the prep which I take tonight. Best of luck .
Lara thank you so much for sharing all the details. Honestly I feel for you and I hope it’s all worth it in terms of getting some results to help you in the long term. My mum is having to go through the same as she’s very anaemic and she’s not looking forward to it. She’s had it before too. From my perspective you’ve helped me to understand what she’s going to be facing so thank you so much xx
Sending you all our love and positive thoughts!
I had my colonoscopy for Crohns imflmmation check, last month. The worst bit I swear is that blooming drink. The procedure itself was over quickly. Two years hopefully until my next one. I did feel for you drinking that stuff. It makes me feel sick and gives me a headache also. I so much hope that they find out what is causing your problems. Stay safe . x
I love that you documented everything. Just an FYI to anyone getting a colonoscopy in the future the prep is easier to drink if you make it ahead of time and refrigerate it so it's cold. I've had so many of them throughout my 20 yrs of having Crohns and other gastrointestinal issues. Also as an American I guess I just assumed that they give everyone anesthesia for this procedure. I too would be nervous with sedation or being awake. We are completely out here. You all are brave
Thank you! Definitely agree it’s easier when ice cold!! You poor thing having so many. ..
Good luck hope it goes OK. X
You looked fantastic in this video! Hugs. My appt is this Friday at 7AM
Hope it all went well lovely and you get some results 😘 that drinks sounds awful 😢 x
I've been having colonoscopies since I was 23, I'm now 50. Started off with drinking a gallon of the grossest stuff ever to now just some pills and tasteless Miralax. Through genetic testing and after losing many family members I have Lynch Syndrome, BRAC2 and another acronym. Sedation is heavenly! 🙏🙏❤️
Im due to have a colonoscopy and im frighten why dose it taken 3 days here is 12 hours
Had mine done today for the second time. First time they gave me moviprep which is nasty to drink taste like salt water with a hint of lemon and didn’t do much so they aborted. Tried again with Klenprep and that worked I went through 5 toilet rolls and 4 4000ml of the stuff. The prep is worse then the actual procedure, did feel where they were prodding around in my abdomen and can still feel it now hours later but it wasn’t that bad
A tip from my sis in law who is colonoscopy lead nurse ...take the drink with flat lemonade instead of water . I did this and it made it so much easier to drink ..its like sherbet lemon .....lots of luck x
Great tip! I should have done that! xx
Sending you positive thoughts from Nova Scotia!🇨🇦
I start my liquid diet tomorrow have a colonoscopy with biopsies on thurday. Its going to be my second one for crohnes disease. The prep is the worst but I have light sedation so being awakes not the greatest either.
For future reference, I do this with Moviprep and movicol and that flavour it when you can, and basically chill it, ice cubes and refrigerate is I found the best for the movicol, but for moviprep, get a water bottle or McDonald’s cup so you can’t smell it and also makes it easier to hold your nose to reduce the taste. My dad came up with this for me in pure desperation and that was to put sugar round the rim of the glass like a cocktail to take away some of the bitterness which was pure genius - every year for my crohn’s and all I’ve learnt is keep your iPad charged and watch something that makes you have a good laugh - Carolyn x
Aw. Thank you so much for the advice!! Back in for it again soon so I’ll do this! Xx
Hi Lara! Just 🧘♀️ breathe. Just breathe. There are different preps here in the states. Mine was Gatorade sports drink and Metamucil powder and I think some mirlax(?) capsules. It wasn’t bad but I NEVER drink Gatorade. I’ve also had an endoscopy recently for anxiety/panic associated with nausea and gas. All negative except for some gastritis-it’s an anxiety thing I need to address. I was hungry after both procedures. And they use propofol for both and it’s a very good rest 😉😴. Just breathe it will be ok.
Your boys in the car are just like my 2 grandsons lol. I loved how interested your youngest was when you were talking about not eating lol; his face was like - W O W lol. I wish you well Lara. Xxxx.
Hi Lara, thank you for sharing It can’t be easy for you 🙏 I’m waiting for a date for both procedures still and I’m so worried 😟 more about feeling any pain during them 😔 all the best lovely x
Sending positive light and hugs! In the States, they give you a massive jug of pre-mixed orangey sludge 🤮
My hubby said the drink was the worst thing ever when he had to have it. 🤮
I've got my 6th September not looking forward to it
Yet again they find piles had them banded yet again been told if this doesn't work I will be having surgery to remove the little buggers
Can you please tell me what is the reason of your bloating i am also facing this
Just had one, I have to drink 4 liters of stuff, grose
Thank you for this video. I have to go through all this a week on Tuesday and I’m dreading that prep as I am phobic about being sick. I’m so scared of the results of my endoscopy and colonoscopy also because I have been very unwell for 3 months now. Terrified. X
A tip - you're allowed to drink the first sachet of 'bowl prep' with orange squash which makes it easier to go down.
The second sachet you can't... And the taste is vomit inducing but just drink as much as you can.
I'm 5 foot 1 and the last time I had a colonoscopy (2 months ago) I could only manage about a quarter/third of the second sachet... But it was enough for a clear procedure.
Good luck. I’m sure you will b fine and that your results will b too. X
Hiya. Please try not to worry ( easier said than done I know !) I had a colonoscopy in Dec and was also dreading it as I also have a vomit phobia. The nurse told me that most people feel sick because they drink it too quickly to get it over with. Mine took me hours lol and I felt a little queasy by the end but not sick/sick if you know what I mean. Good luck ! Xx
@@charliec4405 Thank you so much, I will try to drink it slowly. I've been feeling nauseous with my stomach condition anyway so I was especially worried how I might react. You're very kind and helpful x
Wishing you all the best Lara xx hugs 🤗
I'm going Sunday for both endoscopy and colonoscopy. Do you recommend the sedative? I'm scaaared 😢😅
My husband and son have to have the colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy every two to three years because of an inherited bowel disease they both have, our grandchildren will also have to be scoped when their 18 unless they have symptoms earlier. Good luck with your results.
First time I drank till I threw up and quit. Clean enough..ha I’m praying you get an answer. You won’t know anything about the procedure.
Had that last year, the drink is not great, and hard not to throw it back up! The prep is the worst part though, had sedation, and the process wasn’t painful at all
Hi Lara i had a colonoscopy about 3/4 years ago. The Movieprep sure does it's job! The hospital staff were so lovely ( Addenbrookes Hospital, cambridge ). I hope you get your results soon. X
Your banana bag made me laugh. Perfect! 😂 Canula's are just pure evil and the only benefit of that drink is a cleansed liver, great for the skin. Hope all that toilet paper didn't give you a sore 🍑 before anyone else did anything. 😬 Really looking forward to your next video, with all the great news I'm sure you're going to share with us. Love and strength sent your way. Xx
Best of luck with this. Really do hope you get some answers after all that suffering you've gone through. Not pleasant. You're being very brave! xx
As everyone has said the drink is 🥵 but defo get sidated i went with out, most harendous experience I've had, good luck for tuesday 🙏🤞
Poor you.i really hope this helps find the problem for youas you ve suffered to long.sending love from scotland xx
Thanks for sharing. Hope you get your results soon, so you can get your health issues resolved or more effectively managed. Xxxxxxx
This is so helpful to many people with worries about similar procedures. I had gallstones and had to have endoscope into duodenum was so scared about swallowing the scope but I was sedated and didnt know a thing about it..what relief I felt afterwards. Hope all went well for you.
I'm eating vegetables in gravy as I watch this video. Bad choice lol. I have my 3-yearly gastroscopy tomorrow. I don't have a colon so don't have to worry about prep :) Thanks for the video x
Oh wow, best of luck!
Thank you for sharing this -it couldn’t have been easy to film. My mum used to have these every 3 years and hated drinking the powders. Sending hugs and positive vices. X
Hi Hun hope you finally get some answers ♥ sending lots of best wishes take care xx
Oh that brought back some memories really hope you get your results soon ,take care xxxxx
I’ve had the first dose today and take the second dose in the morning with my appointment at 2pm. Must admit I’m not enjoying the experience, and dreading the appointment.
How did you get on lovely? x
I hope you are you ok and good luck for tomorrow
Highly recommend taking probiotics from Holland and barrets after having colonoscopy. It strips all your good gut bacteria away and can take up to 3 months to restore which puts you at risk for viruses and infections etc. X
Oh wow, thanks for letting me know! x
I've had several colonoscopies for crohns disease check ups - the stuff you have to drink is awful! I could only manage 1 and a bit of the stuff.
The actual procedure is fine... Getting high off gas and air is always a plus!
Best of luck with your tests. Fingers crossed they find something that might be causing your gut problems.
Any results?
Still nothing!! Really surprised it’s taking so long!! X
Do not go very far from loo cos the drink you have to have is really a strong and usually a quick worker,
you are going to be all ok, better safe than not, hope you get thru it all on thur ok on tues.
Thank you, it's done now and just waiting on the results xx
Hope everything went well for you x
Hoping your well xx
When is your op.
💖💖💖💖
This brought back memories of when I’ve had these procedures before. I still vividly remember the drink 🤢 I had Picolax and it made me feel so sick. Annoyingly my sedation didn’t work properly (because of my condition we’re known for sedations not working well) so I was very uncomfortable and remember most of it. And despite feeling like the drink had completely emptied me out, I was told afterwards that it hadn’t (we now know this is due to my digestive problem) so they couldn’t get great pictures. So that was a bit frustrating! I hope your procedure went well and it doesn’t take too long to get the results back. Fingers crossed you’re able to get some answers as well, as I know how frustrating it is not knowing what’s wrong with you xxx
I had the colonoscopy about 30 years ago back then you didn't have a drink to take they gave you an enema then you joined the queue for the toilet with the other patients 😂. Then the gas that they pump into you oh gosh the wind after 😂😂. Hope you get the answers your after . X
I think they still do that! haha. Depending on what procedure you're having as others have said they had that too, I was happy to be at home near my own toilet! xx
That horrible drink to me was the worst part of the whole test. Lol. Disgusting. At least you get a nice nap.
Hope it went well fingers crossed u get some answers x
I really wish you the best! Hope they can help you... But I thought: Is it really necessary to film something so intimate like a medical procedure?! I know it's not you alone on UA-cam- I just felt the need to say that you doesn't have to be so private... I would love your videos anyway! Get well soon.
