Not many K series engines left now. We still look after many many M47's which will easily do 500k miles. Still service many KV6's but the K1.8 caused so much misery for so many owners. What a disaster. We avoid them like the plague 😂
The temperature gauge will only ever come up to half way.. when u top up the expansion tank always do it with a warm engine with it running....not if the engine is really hot though..u can get a digital readout out on the dash for the engine temperature if u use the 19..7 code with the re set button....Bob....
Had a 1.8 rover 75 Great car exact for the engine, that were used. Knew as soon as you said about noise from behide dash, you had a air lock and you should have stopped
Hi Jon. Hadn't come across your channel before till the 75 appeared. Then rivetted to the screen! Your Dad is brilliant, love the dry sense of humour. Sorry to see the engine blew a gasket, I typed this before the end of video!! I live in Liverpool, sail model boats in Southport, so not far from Preston! I am absolutely not a Rover fan, I know a few people who've had them and they were junk, but, nonetheless I respect your enthusiasm and that particular Rover 75 in that colour does look very good. I had hoped to go to the Rustival and maybe aee you, Dad, and car in person but won't as my own older transport, a Volkswagen Vento, registered May '96 has an expired MOT awaiting some work by my very supportive mechanic, Chris. Had a head job on the Vento ten years ago, at 273,000 miles. By Chris. Still rumbling on at 315,000 miles. Very proud of the old car. Keep up the good work znd I look forward to in depth head gasketry...😂😂😂. Cheers. 👍👍
The trouble with experience is that it tells you things you would rather not know. Your dad knew this all along but preferred to be optomistic until reality caught up with you both. Ah well continue being optimistic - one of these days you will get a winning hand. Hope the job goes smoothly.
Yep good old Rover never will let you down on Head Gaskets , They always blow at some point well at least your dad will make sure it never blows again after he's done it.
Such a shame after all your hard work but I know with you and your dad it will be repaired correctly it's a shame the rovers have become dogged with head gaskets when running well the K series are lovely smooth engines my dad had a few
I took a 414 Rover for an MOT. The head gasket popped whilst it was on the ramp idling. It literally went ‘pop’ and coolant started pumping out of the exhaust tailpipe. What a terrible fault to have present in a mass produced car.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Lincolnshire, particularly the story of the ill-fated Ford Pop 100E my Mum ended up with one, though no fault of her own, someone wrote off her beloved Austin A35 van with the windows. My Mum loathed that Ford Pop, never went past a petrol station!

That head gasket was the Sword of Damocles hanging over this video series the whole time. :)
Yup. Oh well 😂
Lol😂

Were trying our best to keep this one going! :)
Loved the video hated the ending 😢 Had a smile listening to you and your Dad chatting, I was enjoying the Lincolnshire accent 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
I can feel his pain , it never" rains, but it pours," Jon 🫣 .. Onward and upwards 🙏
Thanks mate 😁

Yep! Oh well ... keeps Dad busy!
That Village hall would make a great Proton Museum 😂👍
That would be cool!
I reckon your dad was so keen to do the head gasket that he sabotaged it. Either that, or he's psychic!
I think he must have sabotaged it!
Newly subscribed and what a great channel. You two make a great pair and some amazing spannering skills by Dad there!
Very kind! Thank you for watching
We always put the K Series coolant system under vacuum prior to filling to avoid air locks, one pocket of air on those gaskets can cause this
That's a good idea!
Only way you should fill the water up on a rover.

Hi Paul. Thanks for joining us! Im glad you are enjoying the content. Shame you cant make Rustival - maybe next year!
Love the idle chat between you and your dad 😂
We should start a mini series ... Road Trip chat
@@JonCoupland yes 🥰
If u and pop do bleed the cooling system do it with the heater set to maximum temperature....
Many thanks. We will do 🙂
I've done metro/100 ones in a weekend, but your only ever one seized bolt from disaster
Absolutely!
You should do the ...19...7 bizzo with the button, get a proper readout of the temperature.
We realised after we had set off that we should have done 😂
Love ❤️ you guys, look forward to seeing you do the head gasket
Coming soon!

Absolutely - and more content for you lovely folks!
Well, that was... unfortunate.
That's a great way of putting it

Eurgh that's gutting
@@JonCoupland yup, the MOT tester looked at me and said-‘head gasket’s fucked mate’🤣🤣
@@chriswarren2599 😔
Try bleeding the cooling system again Jon....
I wish it was that simple sadly. Head is currently off
Its not a hell of a big job to replace the head gasket Jon..
You are right. Dad told me when in the main dealer he was doing 2 a day 😲

Poor thing 😞
You know where it went wrong. You drove though Old Leak
This was a New Leak! :O
I’ve never heard of anyone happy about a blown head gasket
If you dont laugh ... you cry
These head gasket are such agg on the k series
Absolutely
Moving faults down the chain….. 😮
Was the old local shop for local people ?
Sadly so
Did it make it to 58,000 miles on its original HG ?
@@johnmoruzzi7236 nope ... It's a replacement that's failed
It'll make great content, but not the outcome you really wanted after all the other jobs you've undertaken, at least it'll keep your dad busy 😉.
Very true
Come on off with its head 😂 .
N series gasket perhaps.
😂😂
😣🤦♂️ Dad will sort it out though mate
Fingers crossed 🤞
dad knew....................
He absolutely did
Once redone are the gaskets likely to go again?
Potentially
is it only the 1.8? Are the KV6 affected?@@JonCoupland
@@Transformer-x6t no. It's nearly all the K.Series.😄
Ohh dear 😮😂
😅
Why didnt rover just make a beutifull car reliable i feel youre pain
I think they just pushed the engine too far in the end :(

Don't like Lincolnshire, can't trust a county that is so flat. You might as well be dutch.
No one is creeping up on you are they ;)
You must mean Norfolk then
