Wow thanks so much for this . I’ve always taken them up from the bottom but a someone who makes curtains told me to try this method. Was a bit nervous but your video really helped and was so much quicker and easier to do this way . Liked the extra info about corners too explained very well
Your next video needs to be "how to make the perfect instructional you tube video" this is one of the best videos I have EVER watched. Brilliant all round, well done and so helpful too. xx
I was intending to shorten from the bottom, but this is so much easier. An excellent video which takes you through the whole process. Very clear and easy to understand. Thank you.
Hi. How lovely that you are still responding to posts after all this time! My friend told me years ago that it was easier to shorten curtains from the top but I never dared try it. After getting a silly quote recently though for shortening I took the plunge and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. So thank you for your comprehensive instructions. First time in 68 years I've attempted it!
Great video, thank you so much! I have been dreading altering my lined curtains and never thought to alter them from the top down. It worked perfectly, thank you for the video!
Thank you so, so much. Shortened my new lounge curtains by 8" & this method worked perfectly. They are lined curtains as well & i really didn't want to try hemming them for the same reason as you so your method was a revelation! Clear explanation & good video too.
Never ever thought of altering curtains that way. Great stuff. Got 2 pairs of lined curtains to alter and I'm dreading it so was about to take them to get them altered at a local shop for £100. Might just do them myself now and save myself some money. Thank you x
Thank you for this excellent video. I just bought some eyelet curtains for a bargain price, but still expensive for me in the hope of shorting the curtain at top and adding a pleat tape. This is by far my go to video for doing the job, so thank you very much.
Excellent! I have also used this method on eyelet curtains. I did find that the eyelets I replaced the originals with did not stay together as well as the original ones though. Trial and error I guess!
Excellent Video. Very well explained, I felt as though, I could have a go...... Second thoughts my good lady will do a far better job. Thanks again for putting this video up.
I love this. I havent done it from the header before, but I am going to this time as I need to take off 28 CM. much better. Has really helped thanks. Though i bought more header tape as I thought I would just cut it off! and sew more on.
Hello, thanks for doing this. At 1 minute in, when you said you were pinning, "a bit further out" from the 17" you originally measured - can you clarify by how much? It looked like half an inch but I might be wrong. I want to adapt your method for my curtains, but my header tape is only about 3" wide and yours looks wider.
Hi 👋 it doesn’t matter how far out you place these pins. The intention is to stop the lining fabric from moving at all when you cut. If you don’t pin and the lining fabric moves, you risk the curtain not falling flat as the lining would be either too short or too long. I hope this makes sense.
Hi there, I would say not unless your hand stitching is really fine and sturdy. It would need to be secure enough to carry the weight of the curtains. It's not impossible but not something I would fancy doing. Good luck
Hello I know this is an old video but I wanted to ask how easy is it to cut an eyelet curtain half the size without ruining them please as they are 228 by 228.
Thank you so much , that’s a new way to shorten a curtain for me , after over 50 years of sewing things at home ! You are a good teacher too.
I never thought of shortening the top instead of the bottom. Everything you said is so true. Thanks for the video and the awesome idea. Well done!
You did exactly the right thing, professionals always shorten curtains from the top.

Thank you so much for this, your clear step by step instructions gave me the confidence to shorten by 18 inches.
My mum told me to do it this way, but I couldn't remember the detail of what she had said. As I can't ask her any more this was invaluable! Thank you!
You are very welcome. Good luck with your project.
Excellent, why didn’t I think about shortening curtains that way before, so much easier. Thank you
Very nicely demonstrated. Easy to follow. Definitely going to use this technique.

misottovoce I’m really happy to have helped.
Great must remember that trick. Just had to cut 10" of curtains and lining on eyelet curtains so that had to be done on 2 hems of course! Thank you.
Excellent! I have also used this method on eyelet curtains. I did find that the eyelets I replaced the originals with did not stay together as well as the original ones though. Trial and error I guess!

@@OhMaaaaaan Yes, thanks for replying.
Fantastic. Thank you so much!
Thanks , very clear.
I bought a pair of curtains but got the length and width the wrong way around. Is it possible to change the tape without a sewing machine?
