A new model from #Dodge doesn't come around very often but the company is finally ready for some fresh new products and the 2023 #DodgeHornet is the first of many new models coming. The #HornetGT is the base engine and it comes with a potent 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder that has the most power in the class as the base engine. Those of you wanting something with a plug can also look at the #HornetRT which is the brand's first PHEV.

Happy Weds everyone! It’s finally time to talk about how both the Hornet GT and R/T drives! We did want to clarify, at 3:07 Sofyan called the color Akebono Yellow, it’s actually called Acapulco Gold! Would you guys choose the GT with its turbo engine or the turbo hybrid R/T model? It’s crazy to think it can accelerate as quick as something like a Civic Type R or Golf R 6-speed to 60 mph! 😵💫
Also the cooled seats aren’t available with the track pack because the alcantera seats are not made with cooling included. If you want track pack you can’t get cooled seats
@@ihaveatransam79 Yup, that too! Thanks for clarifying!
Glad you took the time for a detailed review incl. multiple 0-60s that most other channels don't do. GT+ track package seems to be the best performance value IMO
@@theredline no prob, thanks for the acceleration testing! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'd go with the GT because I am not a fan of plug in hybrids. I am actually pretty excited to check this car out.
The depreciation on this will be wild.
Certainly isn’t happening on chargers or challengers with or without v8’s
Everyone says that and it never happens
@Technologically Challenged Tech dealers still sell for the price of new there won’t be any depreciation
@Reggie you will never find this garbage at under 40k. Dealers will only order the top models that msrp at 50+k
I see this going the way of the Nitro and Caliber.
Two companies known for building some of the least reliable vehicles on the market teamed up to make this. I'm sure this will go over well.
Especially the first year.
Weird KBB, motor trend, and top speed list primarily GM brands, Ford, Mercedes, and Volkswagen as the top 10 most unreliable cars in the US.
"take care of the car and the car will take care of you" that saying is true cs i never had problems with dodge/ram vehicles
@haroldjones12 lol I have a dodge 08 caliber and 11 charger rt. Both over 200k miles still running like a top with only basic maintenance, fluid, filter, and brake changes. I have a 14 Ford escape with 140k miles that I've probably had to put in about $8000 I other than basic repairs.
@jeffklaubo3168 Volkswagen and Mercedes are on that list because they have additional features that add complexity and possible points of failure such as adjustable suspension, additional infotainment system stuff, fancier multifunctional seats and with Mercedes there was a Litany of additional things like automatic window shades in the rear and adjustable 16 way seats and electric thigh support. Some of them even have reclining rear seats. The core parts of the car like the engine and transmission seem to be pretty Rock Solid historically.
The fact Dodge managed to catch my eye at all regarding a compact SUV is impressive. Still not right for me for a variety of reasons but gotta give credit where it's due
Dodge just reskinned an Italian car, Alfa Romeo deserves the credit
Kudos to Dodge for being bold with the colors.
They're Alfa Romeo colors.
True that hella sweet
They literally just copied Acura's TLX and MDX Tiger color...
@@squidikka that color is from the 60's Alfa Romeo models Sprint and GTA. Alfa Romeo brought this color out to pay tribute to that. Acura wasn't even an idea back then 🙄
@@jimparsons9961 That's cute and all, but we're talking in the span of a few years, not half a century ago. When it's only a few years apart, and they're the only ones doing it, it's pretty obvious where the "inspiration" actually came from.
It kind of reminds me of the Mazda CX-30 more than anything else. It does look beefy though. Of course, I wonder about the quality of the interiors and the drive.
I got to check one out at the autoshow in Minneapolis recently, the interior definitely has better materials and a more rigid feel that most dodge products.
The front is a Skyline r32-34. American cars are trying to be Asian while Asian cars are trying to be American cars. Acura is copying Dodge Charger smh
Yeah, can't at all imagine the fit and finish being nearly as nice as a Mazda but I'd like to be proven wrong.
A pinnacle of reliability for sure
Cars built in Italy are not known for their reliability. Don't hold your breath.. 🤣

The 4 cylinder is also used in the Jeep Wrangler, let me tell you… they do not sound good when muffler deleted…. don’t ask how i know. The engine is very good for a 4 cylinder and on a rubicon with a two inch lift and 33 inch tires and roof rack i get around 19 mpg on the highway at 70mph and 24 mpg going 60.
How do you know how a muffler delete sounds with this motor?
🤦♂️ he clearly said they use the same motor in the Jeep wrangler… he obviously owns one based on his comment. A little reading comprehension goes a long way.

He said not to ask him how he knew, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
@@ivanlowjones I was going to ask him as well
They sound like broken tractors with the muffler so I don’t even want to imagine what it sounds like without one.
Scares me because the Dart was built on an Alfa platform and the quality and electronics were horrible. Hope they get it right this time.
Ha I have a base dart and just crossed the 100k mile barrier and it's running just fine! Ignorance is bliss for me. My other vehicle is an F150 and I really have only driven trucks so the dart feels like a slow little sports car to me. I will admit, the engine and transmission and stuff are running fine but random plastic bits here and there break all the time.
@@joelmartinez2668 I had a 2013 Dart Limited and traded it in at 100,000. It was terrible. Needed constant suspension work, had to get both transmission and engines mounts changed at 60k. Sometimes the whole dashboard would just go black when driving. Never again. Traded it for a 17 Honda Civic EX-T which has been a wonderful experience.
Had a 2014 dart and it burned oil like crazy not to mention constant transmission problems. Got rid of it and bought an accord v6
@@JDMSwervo2001 be sure to change the timing belt on your Honda V6.
Haha they got it right this time. Lmao
The hornet is getting a lot of shade thrown its way. I think it's a home run, I like it, it's powerful,...all in its a decent package.
I really like that front bage with the 2 bars. Nice sleek and simple👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
I also like that hornet badge . Nice!!!

The best of Italian and Dodge-y quality with a high-pressure Turbocharged mill. I'm surprised you don't have to sign "death or maim" waivers to buy one of these.
gotta love these high revving, small displacement, high compression, high HP 4 cylinders
Nice power to weight ratio and the way of the future. Especially the RT model. How cool being able to dump the electric motor when racing or launching.😊
I test drove one today was a lot of fun you got to know the vehicle really good to know what you're doing
This will be one of those that'll be 40k new... and 25k used.
10k used because it's junk

@@hamerplayer1229 Alfa engine and ZF transmission it's literally the opposite of junk

And thats exactly when ill pick one up
Part Dodge and part Alfa Romeo......what could possibly go wrong?
It's built in Italy. Their cars aren't known for reliability. Enough said!!! 🤣
The thing about Alfa Romeo's is that they build some very attractive cars, with unique interiors, only to spend their entire life on the mechanics lift.
@@somecarnet depends on the car. The more mass produced cars are generally pretty reliable but the lower volume cars can sometimes be more expensive to maintain. I had a gtv6 and the parts were more expensive and harder to come by but i had 164 which was much more reliable and parts were not as expensive. I have the base model Giulia Sprint right now with 85k miles and has been very reliable.
I had Guilia Ti for 55k miles with no issues. The ZF transmission is a solid beast. My brother’s Audi was in shop more.
@@somecarnet have you ever actually owned an Alfa or any other Italian car? I’ve owned a few fiat 500 abarths and an Alfa Giulia and they’ve been more reliable than any other German car I’ve owned. A lot more fun to drive too.
Better than I expected! This may very well be my next vehicle in a couple of years or so.
how exciting.
I’m not sure the car will last that long to be honest.
Probably stick around as long as the dart did ! Junk !
Many other options to choose from man
If they still around in few year...lol

Hard to believe a 1.3 turbo with a small electric motor is doing that, really nice.
Let's see: It's an Alpha Romeo rebadged as a Dodge, built in Italy, and sold by Stellantis. And it's their first plug in hybrid. What could go wrong? Your chance to own the least reliable vehicle in history.
I can tell you are on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You're about 40 minutes from me where you are. Sounds like a fun vehicle to drive.
An Italian made car with an American badge 😂. This is sure to be a nightmare, no matter the cost. I wouldn't come near it for anything over $40k.
I wouldn’t buy it even at 30k
You mean Alfa and Dodge aren’t reliable brands? 😆
Definitely interested to see how these fair after a year or so. Maybe best to lease for the first model year, but Dodge has my attention.
Impressive 0-60 numbers from both powertrains! It is a little on the pricey side but it seems like a good size for many people. I'd take a GLH. 😁
I disagree given it's the same time as an Altima. They marketed this vehicle to be a bit more sporty so im kinda disappointed.
Dodge just needs to make an SRT version of these Hornets with dramatic modification then it will be one hell of a vehicle 💪
I agree get it to 375 to 400 hp reliable and earn that badge I don't care who the main owner is of all the car manufacturers but this looks so COOL😊
Curious to see what the next Durangos will look like.
There won’t be any. Stellantis took over and is killing off anything that made dodge what it was

I just saw an advertisement for this vehicle and came on to see if you were featuring it. Nice review.
Gonna be the best looking car on rollbacks this year
Man, Dodge is tripping not putting some nice blacked out dual exhaust on the back.how they gonna make the outside look good as hell but make the back bottom look plain as hell . Alot of people will see the back just as much as the front
This thing is ugly asf what you talking bout
Why are all manufacturers use a 2.0L engine instead of the bigger engine 2.4L ? This way they can lower the psi's on the turbo and make the engine last little bit longer.
Sadly I think you have your answer lol. I’m just tired of crossover after crossover
Sad to see what Dodge has become. They lost their fight

Dodge and Ala Romero are not known for their quality and reliability. Based on the asking MSRP I would recommend purchasing a Toyota, Mazda or Honda.
And wait for Honda and Toyota to disappear in no time courtesy of huge demand and chip shortage and theft.

I want this. I want this car.
First dodge I've been interested in ever
The first gen 9 speed was bad enough where it caused me to get rid of my 75th anniversary edition Jeep Cherokee, far sooner than I otherwise would have. It was in the shop every 4 months or so and literally within a week after getting out, it would pop a CEL again. Not sure I can trust any vehicle with that awful transmission, even after Stellantis made changes for a second gen a few years back.

Charger and challenger are basically dead. Dodge got bought out by a Dutch company Stellantis. The ceo wears clogs, and wants electrification asap
These little CUV's are what the masses are buying now, and government mandates are requiring auto manufacturers to offer electrification, so this likely wont flop, but it will probably alienate some traditional Dodge fans.

I don't know, do you want a compact SUV that has 700 electronic bells and whistles, or do you want an AFFORDABLE compact SUV to do what you need to do every day? Paddle shifters? NINE speed transmission? Graphic gauges with different looks? How did we ever function without a computer screen in our vehicles for 100 years? LOL!! Keep the bells and whistles and give me a reasonably priced vehicle without all the fluff and that won't track my every move and how many people I take with me, making ME A PRODUCT.
